The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The contact related the failure to a faulty fuel pump; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA as well as take the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the contact loss control of the steering wheel and the vehicle drove off the road. The contact drove onto the curb where the vehicle come to a complete stop. The contact shut off the vehicle and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer stated that the rack and pinion and the bushing on the steering gear needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. On another occasion while starting the vehicle, the contact smelled an abnormal gasoline odor inside the vehicle. The contact examined the vehicle and noticed a fuel leak. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not under recall. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The fuel pump failed as a result of corroded exposed wires under the car. The wires had no protective covering and were corroded and partially melted. The wires are under the rear tire near the fuel pump and are not protected against dirt, grime, salt. They caused 2 pumps to fail and many fuses to be blown before they were found. The car just dies while driving. The mechanic spent hours going over everything to find the source of the pump failure. I have contacted Ford motor company, as this is a safety issue, but to no avail.

Fueling system/fuel pump failure. This is my second 2002 Ford Explorer and I'm having the same issue. The first Explorer I had I replaced the fuel pump and continued to have the same. Now the current 2002 Explorer I have now is experience the same exact issue. I'm just amazed at how many complaints there are about this problem from other buyers and it still isn't considerated a recall. Very frustrated!.

2002 Ford Explorer at 15000 miles; bought truck used from my brother. He never drove it because he had a company car. Fuel pump went out while driveing it home, door adjar light never went out, check engin light came on(should have taken it right back to my brother). $650. 00 to replace fuel pump, $100. 00 to fix door adjar light(fixed myself), $600. 00 to fix check engin light and that problem was different depending on which place checked the error codes. Now the fuel gage is going all over the place and very poor mpg. Was told the sending unit is probable cause. Now this 2002 Explorer still under 20,000 miles. What next!!.
2004 Ford explore dies on the road while driving. Going 70 mph down the interstate and the vehicle died luckily I was driving on the side lane and got off to the shoulder so we weren't stuck in the middle of interstate traffic. Called a tow truck and had the vehicle diagnosed at an auto repair shop. Fuel pump had to be replaced. The auto shop replaced the pump.

When you fill the tank the fuel gauge goes to empty and does not return until you have about half a tank. Ford says this is a common problem and it is a faulty fuel sensor that requires the entire fuel pump to be replaced for a cost of about $1,100. 00. This problem is all over the internet with this particular make and model - why was there no recall?.

1) 2002 Ford Explorer will crank but not start when weather is hot (2) many times at home when weather is hot. Consequences: unable to use car for a month. (3) Ford dealer ($250) changed fuel idle box. Did not correct problem. (4) Ford now wants to change fuel pump for $1000. 00 mileage is 12000 . .
2002 Ford Explorer- a nightmare of problems that keep getting worse. It has 56k miles on it and I am about to replace the transmission. Fuel pump , 2 rear springs, 2 wheel bearings and the drivers side window motor have already been replaced. Neither of the 2 rear windows roll down and the back hatch lift replace on recall is broken yet again. This is the biggest hunk of junk on 4 wheels. Ford needs to do something. Thank god I didn't buy it new because that really would have been a rip off.
My vehicle started to have the fuel gauge act erratic . It would go up and down , then it would go to below empty . In late may the fuel gauge quit completely and the check engine light has been on the entire time . I have no warranty and now the fuel pump looses pressure after sitting over night . Today it started to stumble while I was driving it . I am disabled and I cant afford 770 $ . The vehicle only has 52000 miles on it . I am told by Ford dealer that the pump/fuel sender/ gas cap sender unit needs to be replaced . I believe that this should be a recall situation , because a vehicle this new should not be having this problem .
Fuel pump failed while driving into my driveway with only 11,000 miles on the car. Cost $ 950. 00 to replace the pump at dealer. This could be dangerous if it occurred while driving on freeway. A few weeks earlier I noticed a one time occurrence when the car didn't want to accelerate while driving at approx. 55 mph but problem corrected itself.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Explorer. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technician replaced the fuel pump, throttle body and several unknown sensors in the vehicle. The failure recurred and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician advised that they would perform extensive diagnostic testing on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure would occur intermittently in cold temperatures less than twenty degrees. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
While driving at approximately 35 miles per hour, my 1999 Ford Explorer lost all power. My foot was on the accelerator and I was traveling at a constant speed. It was very, very scary and I was lucky to steer the car into a turning lane prior to the vehicle losing all momentum and coming to a complete stop. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership where they told me that the problem might be the fuel pump, but they didn't seem too sure about it, which worried me to the point that I have decided not to have it repaired at this time. I am now afraid to drive my car in the event that this could happen again!.

: the contact stated intermittently the vehicle stalls while releasing the accelerator pedal at 20-4 0mph. No warning lights have illuminated. After stalling the vehicle will restart, surge and stall again. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership four times. The last visit to the dealership the element, filter, complete module engine, the key was reprogrammed and the cool return was replaced. The next time the vehicle was driven after the repairs were performed the vehicle stalled while crossing a rail road track. The vehicle has stalled a total of five times. It was towed to the dealership four of the five times. The manufacturer has been alerted. The fuel pump was replaced. Updated 05/02/06.
5 months after purchasing car new in 8/04 it would not start(1/05) ;was able to reset fuel pump shut-off switch and start car. Dealer (muzi Ford, needham, mass. )examined car and found nothing. In 2/05 car would not start, could not reset fuel pump shut off switch; dealer replaced it. In 4/05 same problem occurred and dealer replaced switch , stating it was 'burned out'. In 2/06 identical problem occurred and both switch and computer were replaced by dealer. Fuel pump shut-off switch has been replaced three times at this point. The car is a 2004 Ford Explorer xls.
I was driving my 2005 Ford Explorer which I purchased brand new in October 2004, when all of a sudden my gas gauge was reading e and my service engine soon light was on. This happened may 13, 2005. I immediately brought it to the dealer and was told that the fuel pump needed to be changed. Since I had filled the tank the day before they wanted me to drive around and use the gas up. I refused and the wound up draining my tank. Well after filling my tank up on January 20, 2006 again my gauge is ready almost e and the dash keeps telling me I have a low fuel level. This time I wasn't even driving it happened after restarting my car when they finished pumping my gas. Back to the dealer I go and again I am told that the fuel pump needs to be checked out and or changed again but this time they drain the gas and since the tank is full I am supposed to drive the vehicle until I use most of the gas. I am told they do have the part in stock to make the repair. I don't like the idea of having to drive around not knowing how much gas I have. This is ridiculous.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Explorer. Safety complaint was that light came on that said have your vehicle checked immediately. The contact took vehicle back to dealer to have the fuel pump fixed. Dealer fixed the fuel pump. No crashes. No police reports. No fires. The contact was driving on road when light came on. Also, before the gas gauge was not working properly.
My 2000 Ford Explorer will not start on an incline. We've replaced the fuel pump and now the Ford dealership tells me that the gas tank is corroded, the baffles are broken and the air intake valve is defective. This car is only 5 years old. I have had other cars for 10-15 years and have not had a corrosion problem within the fuel tank. I believe this is caused by a defective fuel tank. . . How can I pursue this matter. The dealer wants $1600 to fix the car.

Whenever vehicle was at a stop light or sign it idled and stalled. After stalling vehicle could be restarted immediately. Also, fuel pump was not pumping fuel properly, and was replaced by the dealer.
Fuel pump on 2000 Ford Explorer needs replacing. Truck has 60,772 miles. .
Drivers side saftey belt has broken too, air vent has broken too, sunroof design problem too, fuel pump failed at 14000 mi too.
While driving late at night in a residential neighborhood my wifes Explorer stalled in the middle of the street. She had the Explorer towed home for me to diagnose. I examined the Explorer and found that the inertia switchs electrical connector had slid off. This resulted in the loss of power to the fuel pump. Ford has located this switch near the floor on the passenger side foot area with the wiring routed under the carpet. Repeated passenger foot pressure on the floor had resulted in the connector sliding off. While driving this reduces steering and braking efficiency as well as forward movement. Thank goodness she was not on a freeway, bridge, tunnel or maneuvering through a curve which could have resulted in a serious accident.

I have had the fuel pump replaced two times. The first was at 8000. The first symptom was trying to die after backing out of my driveway. The second failure just occurred with the symptom being difficult starts.
Fuel pump was being replaced. Townsend Ford performed the job. Tech broke cheap plastic clip requiring fuel filler neck to be replaced. It's defective. Will not seal. Gas vapor leak. Check engine stays on. Ford has problem with supplier. None in country told to me about a couple months ago. Still none now. Gas vapor leak is health hazard and unsafe in my opinion. They keep blowing me off on resolution. Can you help? -thanks-.

Fuel pump wiring became dislodged.
Upon starting the Explorer fuel gauge drops down from half tank to empty. After about 10 minutes the fuel gauge shows the correct amount of fuel. The fuel gauge was replaced in March of 99, and the fuel pump was replaced on 4/1//99. Conusmer is still experiencing a problem with the Explorer. Please provide any further details.

Fuel pump failed.
This vehicle was the replacement for the 1997 model with the same problem that Ford insisted did not exist 2yrs. Ago. They have now acknowledged a problem with the fuel pump that we feel very strongly is a safety isssue. They have also informed us that there are other Explorers in the state of colorado that have the same problem. We feel that Ford is deliberately trying to minimize this problem. Vehicle "cuts out/stalls" upon accelleration which by definition of the NHTSA is a safety defect!! we filled a report on our 1997 vehicle in January of 1998. Please see NHTSA ref. #523114.
When putting gas into the gas tank, the pump will shut off and the gas will spill out. It take's five times as long to get gas into tank.
Fuel pump broke. There was a recall for this problem, but this vehicle was not affected by recall although it has same problem. With cruise control engaged, vehicle won't stop unless consumer stomped on gas pedal several times, consumer states the gas pedal seemed stuck and acceleration wouldn't stop.
Vehicle was involved in a collision, and the next day the vehicle caught on fire on the right hand side by the head lights of the passenger side. Dealer looked under the hood, and said that the fuel pump caused the fire. Consumer states that this reason does not make any sense.
While driving at highway speed, suddenly vehicle lost power. Vehicle towed, dealer replaced fuel pump.
When vehicle is parked at a slight incline it will not start with less than 2 gallons of fuel remaining due to fuel pump.
Fuel pump failed. Yh.
