Fuel system, check engine light. I just filled my car up with gas and I drove for less than a mile and the fuel gauge failed to empty and the check engine light came on. After I drove to the dealership to have the problem check out, they were unable to duplicate the problem that day and the next day it went back to normal.

5 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/20/2007

The middle panel under the glass in the back of the car has cracked. I suspect it was due to cold weather. I have since seen other Explorers with this problem and notice that there are a lot of complaints online about this. In addition, this past summer my shifter snapped off the barrel. I had 4 kids in the car at the time. Ford responded by telling me that I had 75k miles and no warranty and I didn't typically get my car serviced there so they weren't going to be willing to "work with me" to get it resolved. When I told him I had my 'regular' mechanic look at it he said that the labor rate was probably cheaper with him than at Ford. Well - now tell me why I would service my car at a Ford dealership? OH yeah. . . In case I get cracks or shifters fall off and maybe they'll 'work with me' on the price. Big incentive. Oh yeah, my fuel gauge doesn't work - another common problem. My previous Explorer (about 10 years back) had the same problem . The guy up the street has an Explorer (2003) and it doesn't work either.

6 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/16/2005

While driving on September 16, 2005 the abs failed. When this occurred it caused the consumer's vehicle to almost hit another vehicle. The abs, maintenance, and four wheel lights came on and blinked when he lost the brakes. A diagnosis test was performed, and it showed that there was a problem with the speed sensor. The dealership replaced the speed sensor in the rear which was called asy-t. The fuel gauge broke. It showed the fuel tank level was higher than what it really was. The driver's rear window motor had to be replaced. The cover over the hatchback handle had to be replaced. Also, had to replace the weather stripping. There has been a repair done to the four by four unit. There were multiple problems with the vehicle.

7 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/28/2005

Purchased new 2005 Ford Explorer after first 100 miles fuel gauge went falsely to empty and service engine light came on. Dealership advised the fuel sending unit for my vehicle is defective. Ford has already issued a tech bulletin on the issue in may 2005 yet they are still selling the vehicle knowing the units are failing. Will require them to remove my gas tank and replace unit. I beleive this should have been done prior to selling this vehicle or I shouldhave been notified of the potential problem prior to purchasing.

8 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/14/2004

Even with a full tank of gas the gas gauge will go to "0" and the "check gauge" light comes on because the sender assembly unit of the gas gauge does not work. When we took our Explorer to dub miller Ford in rosenberg on Nov. 19th, there had been another 2002 Explorer brought in for the same problem that morning. The part is not available and is on back order. The part cost $76. 79 but the labor will be $270! this is a lot of money for us to pay due to an Ford's egineering problem. Are many other 2002 Explorers experiencing the same problems? thanks! shelley and gale towns.

16 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 1998 Ford Explorer

Reference the "fuel tank sender assembly" on Explorers and mountaineers model years 1997 thru 2000 does not reach far enough into the tank causing the sensors to believe the vehicls are out of fuel when parked on a down hill slope, this could also occur when driving downhill with less than a quater tank of fuel. This problem, supposely, was corrected with the 2001 models, by extending the length of the sender assembly. Should this , for safety sake, be done on 97 thru 00 models. I am aware of only one incident where an Explorer with a few gallon s of fuel remaining the the fuel tank, was parked on a down slope and could not be started until vehicle was placed on the level.

17 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 1996 Ford Explorer
