1 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/25/2020

Vehicle has been in multiple repair shops multiple times for fuel pump, electrical, and power train problems. The first time it shut down in the middle of a parking lot, it was towed was at 1720 miles. It currently has 7772 miles. I would get it out of the shop one day the car would either have the same warning lights appear or break down totally. Prime example picked it up on Monday, November 23, 2020 and it started experiencing problems on the 24th as soon as the gas warning light came on the car shut off at 65 mph and all the cabin lights came on inside the car. I managed to get it restarted after 20 minutes around 8:15 pm and get to a gas station and I put gas in it and the gas warning lights went out. Then shut down completely at 70 mph on the 25th on highway 421 near yadkinville, nc. Warning lights would appear at the moment the car shuts down. (near hit by a tractor-trailer that swerved to miss hitting me. ) had it towed to two separate Ford dealerships. The first said they could not work on it because it was a holiday and they knew I was out-of-town from virginia. The second dealership inquired about the problem. Ohmed out the fuel component and discovered the connector was defective on the fuel pump and it had been wired improperly and replaced the missing screws on the fuel pump. The shop rewired the component correctly and the vehicle runs. I still consider the car unsafe because I can still feel the powertrain jerk subtlety.

Fuel gauge is sweeping back and forth before resting on empty when the car was started. Was an intermittent problem but now the gauge remains on empty with the low fuel light on and the miles to empty reading as "---" and the check engine light came on. Dealer told me almost one year ago that the fuel pump was the reason for the gauge acting like this.

14 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

Brought vehicle in Jan 2014. Every since first day brought, had a problem with getting fuel into vehicle without fuel pump clicking as if vehicle is full. This happens at about every fuel station I go to. This is very frustrating. Brought plenty of Fords, but this is the first one that does this. Before I get a few ounces of fuel into the vehicle it will click and continue doing this as long as im trying to put in fuel. Love vehicle but hate it because of this. I read on others having same problem. Can someone please help us all. / this is definite a recall. Michael j. Woody (retired vet / retired u. S. Postal svc. ).

15 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Purchased 2013 Ford Explorer with around 33k miles on it. Shortly after I had it I noticed gas odor in garage and dismissed it thinking it was lawn mower etc. Then over a short time realized the odor must be coming from car and the odor was more evident after I fill up with gas. I looked on line to find out there is a recall on leaky fuel tanks and when I called Ford was told my VIN # isn't included in the recall. But, I smell gas! the odor was so strong this morning I was scared to start it, not knowing what would happen. I've only had this vehicle 5 months now, purchased used. Today I have my car at a dealer/mechanic that confirmed the odor coming from gas tank, they will keep it overnight and check where the leak is coming from. I was told if its from "fuel pump" the manufacture warranty might cover costs if its from the "filler neck" it will not be covered. At this point I would love to get rid of this vehicle. We also had to buy a new ac only 3 months after I purchased the car. . . Long story there too!!! costing me more $ than its worth and I will never buy a Ford again!.

16 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

On my 2006 Explorer I am unable to fill the tank with gasoline. It almost immediately backs up the fill tube and turns the fuel pump off. It's been to many mechanics who have told me that the problem is with the fuel tank itself. They have said that it should have been a recall on Ford's part long ago. Because of this problem I will be unable to pass emissions test because the vehicle is sensing a fuel vapor leak. Also I have searched the internet far and wide and found many people who say they have the same problem. They have brought their vehicles specifically to Ford dealerships who have charged them money to replace parts that did not fix the issue what so ever. Please look further into this problem. On behalf of many others and myself, thank you for your time!.

17 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/28/2013

My 2013 Ford Explorer has been at the dealership for 3 weeks now and still no replacement parts for the fuel pump. I have contacted Ford directly 3 times and they can't give me an answer and have been in constant contact with the dealership and no one can tell me when this part will be ready. I have been given a rental but it is a chevy impala, not anywhere near the size of my Explorer, and had to fight to get that as they only pay for a compact car. I have two young children and this is summer time and we are doing a lot of traveling that is very difficult without my Explorer. It would be nice if someone could give me an answer about how much longer this is going to take. I am beyond frustrated and ready to ask Ford for my money back so that I can buy a different vehicle but I assure you they won't do that. What is even more irritating is I am paying a monthly payment and insurance on a car I have been without for almost a month. Someone needs to step up and get these parts out to the dealerships. I also did not know about this recall until reading an article about it. Nice to know that I was never notified by Ford!!.

18 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/17/2013

From my Ford Explorer limited (with 5000 lbs factory installed tow package), there was a high smell of gasoline after fueling vehicle. Odor did not diminish. I brought the vehicle to MA dealership, (5-17-13), where mechanics determined that gas tank was leaking. Parts not easily available. Gas tank and fuel pump had to be replaced. I spoke with Ford ne regional mgr, cynthia, and requested an upgrade to my warranty from 5yr to 7yr. She said, "Ford does not pay for pain and suffering," after I said that this was a serious fire safety hazard. She told me that nothing happened so it can't be considered. No upgrade allowed! and she also told me that "parts break, and have to be fixed. !" after 11 consecutive days at the dealership, the car was fixed by 5-28-2013. The myfordsync system has been a nightmare. It has been serviced 10+ times since purchase in 9-2013. Complete failure to work has happened. Blank screen, no backup cameras. Very expensive vehicle. I spoke with the dealership manager about a warranty upgrade, but he has not responded to my questions, even though he said that he, "has never seen this gas tank problem. " this car has required more than 15 days of repair in the first seven months, and it is well under 15,000 miles. The current gas mileage is well under the sticker mpg of 26 highway. It is ranging from local of a best of 19 mpg to a best of (highway) 21mpg. Towing it is 14 mpg to 15. 4mpg.

19 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

20 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/10/2012

Fuel gauge off - did not want to start - dealer fixed under warranty , changed fuel pump 20 days later took back again , still had trouble start , bad fuel reading - changed pump again, took back 45 days later , fuel gauge not working - 3 days later , found bad fuel sender card [board] ordering new board as I write this. Common problem with these Explorer gauges sodium buildup on unit due to the crap 10% ethanol added . All being fixed under warranty , thank god! my daughters 2005 Explorer starting to have fuel gauge problems also 69,000 miles.

21 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

While trying to fill the gas tank at the fuel pumps, it takes sometimes up to 20 minutes to completely fill the tank. I can only squeeze the handle on the gas pump hose line slightly yet it keeps shutting off as if the tank is full. I know that it takes nearly 20 gallons to fill my tank yet the nozzle keeps shutting off every 10 - 12 seconds.

22 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/04/2008

2005 Ford Explorer - fuel pump failure while driving vehicle shuts off and also fuel gauge reads e then emission light comes on. This is a safety hazard and a known defect. My vehicle had this to happen at 32,800 miles and I almost was involved in a major highway accident. By my chacks Ford is aware but is not concerned should be a recall.

23 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2001 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/01/2003

SUV shutters on a quick stop at a light, when tank has about 1/4 in it. Then will eather shut off or clear out when stopped. Also if you park on a slight incline with 1/4 tank of gas I can not get the car started. Both of these cases never had the low fuel light on before the incident happened.
