I have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT, a couple weeks ago I went to open the back lift glass, and the window fell, and combustion in thousands of little pieces, right in my face! I have pictures, anyway I proceeded to take my vehicle to Ford motor company in horseheads, NY, they replaced the window due to the explosion, and I have had my truck back there 4 times because they wired it wrong, and they refuse to fix this problem, if my wiring from the back windshield to the dash of my truck does not get fixed I am sorry to say that I will be forced to obtain an attorney for Ford! please help!!!!!!.

Last night I pulled into my driveway after coming home from work, my family had dinner and I was sitting down in the living room to play with my 2 year old son. I heard a popping sound and asked my wife what was that noise, she looked out the window and yelled your car is on fire ! my car burned to the ground!!!.

On January 31, 2006 after arriving home from work which is approximately 6 blocks from my home I noticed an electrical smell I thought that it was possibly my christmas lights on my home that I had not taken down then I felt the siding and insulation of my home to make sure that an outlet wasn't overloaded or hot I even came in and move my furniture to check the outlet closest to the driveway and didn't find any source of the smell. My boyfriend went out and removed the christmas lights and said he thought the smell was coming from the vehicle, at that time I just assumed that possibly it was a brake pad smell or something of that nature. This vehicle contained no after market stereo equipment it only had a professionally installed alarm system. After that incident the vehicle was driven approximately 35 miles round trip twice to a local town with no vehicle problems or smells. On the morning of January 1, 2007 I got in the vehicle and drove approximately 6 blocks to work I turned off the vehicle, gathered my belongings exited the vehicle, used the door locks to secure the vehicle clocked in at 5:55 a. M. And at approximately 6:15 I was called out of my work by a correctional officer telling me that my vehicle was on fire, it was noticed in a security camera by dispatch, a fellow worker used 3 fire extinguishers on this vehicle before the fire department arrived once they arrived they had to use several burst of water to bring the fire under control, the hood latch failed to work so they had to remove the hood with an axe because the tire well was still glowing from the fire, the fire was put out and it was a total loss.

: the contact stated a fire erupted in the engine compartment. The fire was first observed on the passenger side of the vehicle near the alternator and wiring harness. Shortly before the fire started the vehicle made a grinding noise. The vehicle has not been inspected by a fire investigator however the contact believes the fire was electrical. The vehicle is currently at the dealership although they are unable to determine what component was involved in the fire. The cruise control on the vehicle was seldom used therefore; the contact is unaware if it works. The insurance company was alerted and a claim was filed.

1998 Ford Explorer parked in garage had spontaneous fire in engine compartment department put out fire. This was a cruise control deactivation switch fire. It may have been reported to you by police, insurance, or fire dept. If so, just let me know you have the information.
The contact owns a 1998 Ford Explorer. The engine caught on fire while the car was sitting there. This did happened on July 27, 2005. The firemen could not determine what started the fire. The vehicle had been sitting for approximately four hours before it caught on fire. The vehicle had not been driving any different before this happened.
Fire started in vehicle in the garage of our home.
While parked for 45 minutes a fire started under the hood. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Car was parked when it caught on fire in the parking lot. The incident was reported by metro rail security, stating that smoke was coming from under the hood before the fire started. Police report was issued. The fire was extinguished by the fire department.
Underhood fire in Explorer. Minor fire concentrated around cruise control deactivation switch. Fuse for that circuit blown. Xrays show total internal destruction of the switch contacts even though the plastic body is still relatively intact but charred and deformed.
While driving at approximately 20 mph other vehicles were pointing at consumer's vehicle, indicating that the vehicle was on fire. Smoke was coming from the hood, the base of the chassis, the vents, and from the tire hub. The hub caps melted. The fire also disinterested the brakes. Vehicle had to be stopped by the use of the emergency brake. Consumer took the vehicle to a Ford dealership, who advised the consumer to take it to the dealership where it was purchased. This dealership provided no assistance. Consumer refused to drive the vehicle to the other dealership because of the condition of the vehicle, which was currently under warranty. Dealer stated that the cause of the fire was undetermined.

On may 15, 2004, I was fishing in a local bass tournament. I parked my 1998 Ford Explorer beside one of my fishing friends chevy truck and boat trailer. After launching my partner for the days boat, I parked his truck and trailer on the other side of my Explorer. Approximately 4 hours later, my partner and I were approched by another friend and told us we were needed back at the parking lot that my Explorer had burned to the ground, burned the chevy with the trailer to the ground and scorched paint and melted parts of my partners truck. The chevy truck and my Explorer were total losses and I lost a lot of personal items that insurance did not pay for. State farm claim # 18-1010-243.
While driving on flat surface and no warning vehicle starts smoking under hood. Consumer pulled over. Dealer notified.

Minor traffic accident, damage to left front bumper and fender, near battery. Result was instant flame under hood and vehicle destroyed.
When starting car a fire broke out under the hood.

Vehicle was parked outside of home and without prior warning it caught on fire. Dealership was aware of problem.
The truck burst into flames 2 minutes after being shut off. Vehicle completely totaled.
Vehicle seems to go through headlight and fog lamp bulbs rather quickly. I have replaced both headlamps once, and the driver side headlamp a second time. I also have had to replace both fog lamps twice. Driver side brake light also has been replaced once and is out again. Dt.
Fire under hood while vehicle parked, with power off. Vehicle sat for 5 hrs, then fire started. Flames under hood and from rear window defogger connection. Battery then exploded. No fire under car. Passenger compartment untouched.
Consumer's wife was driving, rearview miror sparked a fire and caused the wires under dash to burn. Took vehicle to dealer, and they ordered a wiring harness. Bolts were taken out of the steering section at the dealer. Also, while driving at 55, steering wheel just started spinning because of the bolts that were left out.
Multi unit radio system, the clock/station displayed went out.
Ford said that they were not interested in looking at the vehicle to determine what the cause was. The engine fire occurred 3 1/2 hours after the vehicle was parked. It was parked in the street, but it is normally in my garage. If it had been in the garage, my house would have caught fire and my family could have been killed. I will never feel confortable with it in the garage again. Is there something that you can do ?.
After parking vehicle for 3. 5 hours engine compartment broke out into a fire. The fire was determined to be an electrical short. Dealer has been contacted.
Car crashed steering disabled, immediately went into flames.
This loss is similiar to another previously reported. This loss is very similar in nature to the deactivation switch fire losses in the Lincoln town cars. While driving my vehicle I noticed some smoke coming out from under the hood. I started to pull off to the side of the road when the entire engine compartment burst into flames. I got pulled over as quick as possible and opened the hood where I noticed the engine was completely on fire. I tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but the fire was buring too hot for me to get close, the fire dept arrived in less than 5 minutes and proceeded to put out the fire, at which time it was too late, the vehicle was completely burned up. I only had this vehicle for less then 4 months and had no work done to it at all and it just blew up on me. I just got out of the car in time before being severely burned myself. I did purchase a 3yr/36,000 mile warranty from the selling dealer at time of purchase whihc was suppose to be a bumper to bumper warranty. This vehicle was in exceptional condition, hense the reason I purchased it. I don't know what I am going to do from here, but I now find myself without a vehicle and thankfully without any physical injury, this incident could have possibly killed me and this matter should be investigated so this doesn't happen to anyone else.
While driving vehicle caught fire under the hood . Vehicle was totaled. Manufacturer has not been notified.
Consumer started the truck up, but it wouldn't start. He noticed smoke cmming from under neath the hood.

While driving at 30 mph went to apply for the brakes on wet pavement and brakes didn't work. Consumer hit a tree. Pulling the vehicle from the tree there was smoke coming from under the hood and the vehicle caught on fire.
While driving the truck lost all power and electricity. Took the truck to dealer and they said that they fixed an alternator wire loom for excess, and replaced a part of the power distributor box. The nut to the alternator wire loom was left loose which could cause the truck to melt from the mounted plate that they could not tighten.
Head light and fog light wire exposed and loose in the front wheel wells, when driving through snow and ice buildup of ice occurs on the wires, then the wires break, causing sudden outage, wire need to be rerouted.
The vehicle was parked and a fire started under the hood, near the engine.
