17 problems related to fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings have been reported for the 1997 Ford F-150. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tl the contact owns a 1997 Ford F-150. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have his brakes serviced. While there, he was informed of NHTSA campaign number: 00v231000 (fuel system, gasoline). The contact took the vehicle to vancouver Ford, inc. (6801 ne 40th st, vancouver, wa 98661) where he was informed by the mechanic that the recall required for him to check the pvc valve and the fuel line. As per the mechanic, there were no issues with the vehicle and no repairs were performed on the vehicle. The recall was then removed from his VIN. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle stalled and shutoff without warning. The contact also stated that while at a complete stop while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated forward without warning. The contact replaced the pcv valve and the pcv hose himself however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and the previous recall on his vehicle. The manufacturer informed him that there were no recalls on his vehicle and offered him no further assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.
We were driving down the road at about 25 mph after we decided not to take the freeway to get to our desitination. We heard a huge clunk/drop noise and severe scraping sound so we pulled off immediately to find that the gas tank in our 1997 Ford F-150 had fallen and was dragging on the ground. The strap(s) had apparently rusted off. The truck was towed to a local Ford dealership where the work will be done on Monday. We hope that only the straps will have to be replaced and that no damage to the fuel tank or lines was done (or will be done) during the moving of the truck during towing or for repair. I am fearful of what could have happened had we been driving on the freeway at 60-70 mph and sparks been created. The gas tank was about 3/4 way full.
While driving at approximately 30 miles per hour under normal driving conditions both fuel tank support straps broke on a 1997 Ford f150. The result of the straps failing was a damaged fuel tank (several leaks occurred on the tank causing massive fuel loss), damaged fuel tank sensors, damaged fuel tank hoses, and damaged fuel tank hose clamps. There may have also been additional damaged caused to the vehicles exhaust system. The costly repairs included a new fuel tank, houses, clamps, sensors, and replacing about 20 gallons of fuel. All repairs were done at the owner’s expense.
I have a 1997 F-150 with just over 150,000 miles and lost both straps just after filling up and going over train tracks @ 25 mph. The only thing holding it on was the fuel lines, hope there is not major damage there. I had the tank replaced about 3 years prior.
I have a 1997 Ford f150. Yesterday when I to get into my vehicle the area smelled like gasoline, was unsure if it was mine so I drove home. When I got home the smell was even worse. Upon checking the fuel lines and gas tank I found that the straps on the fuel take rusted through where they connect which also caused the fuel to rust specifically where the strap was rubbing on it causing the tank to rust and now it has a hole in it. This is going to cost $250-300 in parts alone. This is a major safety issue for any vehicle and should be fixed at the cost of the manufacturer.
The contact owns a 1997 Ford f150. The contact stated both fuel tank straps completely rusted. The fuel tank was not damaged due to the failure and was temporarily secured with another type of metal strap. In addition, the fuel filler neck hose exhibited a crack. The dealer was notified and they informed the fuel filler neck hose was no longer being manufactured. The vehicle had not been repaired. Currently there is an open investigation associated with NHTSA action number ea11006 (fuel system, other:tank assembly). The manufacturer was not made aware of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.
Fuel tank strap broke on 1997 f150 30-gallon tank due to severe corrosion. Tank dropped, causing the filler hose to disconnect from the fitting at the tank. Discovered the problem when fuel started pouring onto the pavement at the gas station. Last fill-up was a week prior with over 200 miles of driving since, so strap could have been broken for up to a week. Will replace the tank and straps, will retain the straps for 1 month before discarding.
The contact owns a 1997 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the spare tire cable, exhaust system manifold, fuel tank strap, brake line, bolts, erg valve, and the frame were rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and denied to buy the vehicle back or provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 220,000 and the current mileage was 322,000.
Had received recall 00v231 in mail. Contacted dealer & took vehicle on appointment given. Prior to recall vehicle had a strong smell of fuel while driving. Mechanic checked vehicle & could not find anything wrong with fuel lines or smell fuel. Owner not happy & truly upset. Not driving vehicle due to odor of fuel.
Consumer thinks recall repair oov-231 took too long to repair and dealer lied about time the vehicle was ready on the invoice. Nlm.
While I was driving my F-150 truck on highway s-22, west of borrego springs, California, the truck caught fire. I pulled over to the edge of the road and got out. A tow truck driver who was driving behind me put out flames in the cab with a fire extinguisher. Then the cab bursed into flames and he pulled me away from the truck and called the police and fire department on his radio. Though the truck was turned off the fire continued and enveloped the truck in flames, despite the water pumped onto it from the fire truck. I learned there was a recall for F-150 trucks for a defective fuel line that could (no doubt has) cause fires. Ford motor company claimed that the recall did not include my truck because it was made in wayne and only F-150's built in norfolk and kansas city were involved. Yet my truck burned to a shell. It seems obvious that the fire was sucking fuel from the tank even though I had shut off the engine, obvious that the leaking fuel had ignited under the hood and the fire got well-advanced before I was even aware of it and was too big to be put out by a hand-held extinguisher. Ford has denied any responsibility for this disaster to me. They clame the case is closed. I reopened my case against Ford in December, 2003 because I learned of computer websites dedicated to accidents caused by defects in manufacture of vehicles.
