Five problems related to tank filler pipe and cap have been reported for the 1997 Ford F-150. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
1997 Ford F-150. Consumer writes in concerning safety recall 11v385000 regarding fuel tanks the consumer stated the fuel tank straps were replaced on September 28, 2011. Prior to the replacement, the consumer did not have any problems fueling his tank. After the straps were replaced, he started having problems with fuel leaking on the ground after filling the tank. The consumer returned to the dealer. An inspection revealed a crack on the filler neck on the tank. The dealer stated they were not responsible as they only replaced the straps. The hose clamps, fuel tank and filler spout were rusted.
The contact owns a 1997 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at a low speed, the vehicle hit a bump and the fuel tank fell onto the ground. The contact examined the vehicle and noticed that both straps which held the fuel tank in place were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 176,000. Updated 08/31/11 the fuel tank, straps, pump and filter were all replaced. Updated 09/07/11.
Rubber hose that is connected to the filler tube which goes into the fuel tank is leaking fuel around the frame. Please give any further details.
Fuel tank assembly: filler tube has cracked, causing the gas to leak. Dealer has been contacted.
The consumer stated fuel leaked from the gas tank. The vehicle was serviced and the technician stated the filler tube was rusted at the tank 360 degrees around and 100% through.
