Tamara recall. My 2000 model Ford f150 was sitting in the driveway last night. It had been parked there since noon. At 11:10 last night, I saw flames coming from outside, and my trucks hood was completely engulfed in flames. Wondering what would make it catch on fire.
At approx. 2:22 am on the morning of 3/4/2016, the engine became engulfed in fire after having been parked in the driveway since 3:00 pm on 3/3/2016. We later learned of a number of recalls lead by Ford for the replacement of a defective brake switch which would cause this type of fire. We checked the VIN of the vehicle with both NHTSA and Ford and found that no recall was effective for this particular vehicle. I have attached the fire report and photos.

Firefighters called to the scene said they have never seen anything like it before. The vehicle was parked in front of my home, and about 30 minutes after the vehicle was parked, it caught fire. The vehicle had been turned off for about 30 minutes before it began to smoke and then caught fire and flames burned through the entire front of the vehicle. The fire then spread and burned through the tire before the fire department was able to contain and put out the flames.
On my vehicle I can remove the key, with the vehicle still running. I had actually gotten out of the vehice with the keys the first time I noticed it, and it was still running. I then climbed back inside ( keys still in my pocket) put the car in drive, and drove around the block. I have to be careful when I exit that the black ring around the key is turned all the way counter clockwise when I exit. I can also remove the keys while I am driving down the road. They actually fell out once while driving.
The vehicle was parked in front of our house and had not been driven for several hours before it caught fire. I was in the back yard with my wife when we heard the explosion and we ran to see what it was. When I got to the front of the house the vehicle was already desroyed. The hood had melted and the explosion was the left front tire exploding from the heat coming from under the hood. The fire department came and put out the fire. This was a total lose.

Our 2000 f150 pickup exploded after being parked for approximately 36 hours. The recall on the cruise control had supposedly been replaced at a Ford dealership a couple of years earlier. My husband and I were out of town at the time but fortunately my mother was home and heard the big boom and called 911 for the fire department. She then went down to our house and used a garden hose to keep the grass and surronding area wet so that our home would not catch on fire. The vehicle was a total loss but thankfully my husband wasn't driving it when it happened and my mom was at home to help prevent our house from catching fire also. We feel blessed that all we lost was the truck and not our home or life. The truck was in excellent shape and well maintained . This incident makes us wonder if the Ford dealership actually replaced the part under recall.
Driving truck for about an hour, came home, truck sat for about an hour and a half. Caught on fire. Fire was mainly in the engine compartment and seemed to get the hottest near the drivers side.
My 2000 Ford f150 was sitting in my parents driveway as we were visiting. We heard a loud noise but couldn't figure out what it was. When I looked out the window, I saw my truck on fire. My dad got a hose and I called 911 and between dad and the firemen, the fire was put out without hitting the other vehicles nearby or the garage. The f150 is totaled with the hood totally gone and the engine, electrical and other components in the compartment burned up as well as the front windshield and the dashboard. This could have been more serious as I was just about to leave to take my 5 year-old niece home w/my 9 year-old daughter.

My 2000 Ford F-150 burned to a crisp last night. I had driven the vehicle and parked it in my driveway and was inside putting the groceries away when I heard a "boom" outside and when I ran out I observed a fired from the engine compartment. It appears to me that the vehicle is totaled. There was some minor damage to my residence and I now have a really cool looking garbage can from the heat of the fire. Friends informed me today that there have been numerous recalls, and similar incidents, but I have not heard about any recalls. What can I do about this besides contacting my insurance company(s)?.
Woke up at 3:55 a. M. And my 2000 Ford f150 was fully involved in flames. It also caught a vehicle in front of it 1999 Dodge durango in flames. It then proceeded to catch my house on fire.
We have fallen victim to Ford's compartment fire issue. From everything we have just researched, it appears our f150 caught on fire around 5 am Sunday July 30. It had been parked since 10:30 pm. In trying to research this bizaare incident, I discovered their recall which I never received. I have owned the vehicle since 2001. I have not had any prior problems with the vehicle, which is why I found this so bizaare to wake up at 5 am to my wife yelling "your truck is on fire!". Luckily, I have never been motivated to clean our garage so we could park inside. However, our home did suffer damage to the siding. Ford is not being aggressive in ensuring this is being handled.

Odometer light keeps fading on/off and at times will not turn on when you start the engine or go off while driving. This has been an on-going problem since we purchased the vehicle in 09/2000. The dealership looked into it and found it was inconclusive.

The service dealer removed the cruise control one year ago because of the potential of fire. Engine fire.
The vehicle caught on fire on September 17, 2005. This occurred without previous warning. The consumer stated that it started in the steering column area because the most of the heat was coming from there. Had no problems with the vehicle before. He was unsure if the cruise control was on.
Driving down smooth road, engine quit with no warning but the theft light flashed and the speedometer flashed. I was able to restart engine without a problem. Then after shutting engine off later it would crank but would not start. After towing to shop for repair it starts ok but speedometer shows dashes after the turn on light test. If this had happened when I had pulled out in traffic I would be dead.
2000 Ford f150 caught on fire after start up. It was later determined that an electric module on the master cylinder was the cause.
