Our Ford F-150 year 2000 started fire under the hood, while we were sleeping. The truck was parked in the diveway at about 12:00 the night before and the fire started at about 6:30-7:00 the next mourning. The truck was burnt to the ground, it totaled my vehicle that was next to it and it damaged our home. If someone hadn't noticed the fire on their way to work and woken us up we would have lost our home and maybe even our lives. The investigator that was sen't to our house to investigate the vehicle is confident that this is related to the cruise control switch. The truck was standing still unoccupied turned off for atleast 6 hours before it wen't up in flames. When we came out of the house the whole hood was on fire, by the time the firemen came the whole truck was burned and it started on the house. The firemen at the seen told us that nothing looked criminal and they believe the fire started under the hood. Their is no doubt in my mind that this fire occured because of the cruise vcontrol recall.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2004

Electrical problems. Most significantly the truck shut off while I was driving down a road at about 50mph. Zero electrical and the power stearing was out and I had to muscle the truck to the side of the road, my wife would not have been able to do this. I waited about 15 minutes and it started. Had I been in a turn I may not have been able to turn the truck fast enough and hit oncomming cars. I took it in to john elway Ford dealership and they said they couldnt find anything wrong with it and said they could do nothing. They said there was no error code logged in the computer so nothing was done. Today, Aug 13, 2004 the truck started but the odometer was not lit but then lit when I backed out of my parking space. My wife later took the truck to the store then to a playground where it failed to start again. This is the third occurance of this and the Ford dealership said they could not find anything wrong. When I called Ford they agreed that they could not do anything if they could not recreate the problem. I also have an occasional grinding from 2nd to 3rd gear that I have taken it in for several times only to be told sorry we cant recreate the problem. My main concern is losing electrical power while driving. If this happens to my pregnante wife I am very concerned that she could get into a bad accident.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2003

I was traveling in neutral, downhill, at about 40mph through a shallow turn as I was exiting a highway. When I put the truck in 4th gear to accelerate, I had no power. The tachometer was at zero and I tried to turn on the hazard lights and begin braking, both failed to work. I had no lights or any other electrical power (it was daylight) I downshifted and turned to ease off the road, I had no power steering, then the steering wheel locked. I halted the truck with the e brake once I was slow enough and on the edge of the road. I tried to restart it several times but nothing would happen. The truck had zero electrical power. After about 15 minutes it started back up as if nothing was wrong. When I got it to john elway Ford in denver CO, the mechanics said the computer didn't log any errors and there was nothing they could do. I contacted Ford and they refused to do anything. I contacted the bbb and they just reiterated Fords policy. The problem has never been fixed since no one can find the reason for it. It has happened one other time to me in 2007 (I think).
