I was driving my 2004 Ford f150 supercab down the street in my neighborhood on my way to work. I rolled up the power windows and heard a weird sound from the passenger door. I decided to roll it back down to see what was going on. As soon as I pressed the down button, the window just fell right into the door. It was a little frightening and could see how it could cause a wreck if it happened on the interstate. When I got to work, I got out to check it out. I could still hear the motor working, but I could hear pieces of glass and knew the window shattered.
I was parked in a parking lot letting my car cool down before I rolled up the windows and once I proceeded to roll up the window it made a loud thump/pop noise and the window fell between the drivers side doorway. I had my local mechanic fix it on 6/30 and right after leaving his shop, I was driving down the road heard a loud noise come from the passenger side (and almost wrecked into a parked car due to the noise!) and stopped to inspect what happened. I tried the window and it slammed right between the passenger side door. Now two windows and $800. 00 later I have them fixed due to the window regulator going out in each one. This issue should be addressed as I called Ford and they would do absolutely nothing. Please recall this as this is extremely dangerous.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the glass for the front driver and rear windows fell into the door frame abnormally. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic that located the failure as the window regulators needing replacement. The regulators were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,354 and the current mileage was 33,800. Updated 11/03/11.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. The contact was attempting to close the driver side window when the window failed and fell into the door panel. The window was inoperable and the contact was advised by the dealer that the plastic regulator had caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 69,000. The vehicle was repaired July 6,2011. Updated 08/31/2011.
As I lowered the driver's-side power window, it made a loud scraping noise and then an even louder pop/crack which made me think the window had broken. I raised the window cautiously and even though it continued to make noises, the glass appeared to be undamaged. About 5 minutes later, the window slid down into the door of the truck.
It looks like there will have to be a number of injuries or deaths before a recall is put in effect here. I have a Ford f150 supercrew 2004, the driver's side window dropped and shattered suddenly while driving in heavy traffic with a loud noise and shattered glass. I thought I was shot at, at the time and was very lucky there was not a serious accident killing and injuring many people. Kids were crying and all inside vehicle were very upset. Afterwards I removed the window glass and the regulator assembly and the problem is the plastic clips that hold the control cables in place. They appear to be cheap and fragile and obviously break easily and for no reason, letting the cables come out of their guides and therefore dropping the window unexpectedly. I have taken numerous pictures if anyone from Ford, NHTSA or anyone else would like to see. This incident really screwed up a otherwise great day because of shoddy engineering and quality from a american car company (Ford). I am in the process of buying and replacing this window regulator myself at a cost of $187 + tax + time + inconvenience with no assurance this will not happen again.
I attempted to put my passenger side window down & it crashed down into the door with the glass shattering as it dropped into the door frame. Approximately two years ago I had the drivers side window looked at it sounded strange on operation. Ford dealers disagreed. One month later the window failed to operate & Ford fixed the window at their cost. I also had them check all of the other windows because they too did not sound correct when operating and nothing was found wrong at that time. I am now without a window & will contact Ford about this problem & hope they will fix it at their expense as I feel this should not be my responsibility for a truck that is only 5 yrs old.
I when to roll down my window and it started down then I heard a loud bang and the glass fell inside the door this is a concern because some could still my stuff out of my truck or even still it right now I have it rigged where it will stay up but I can not roll down or use my window.
I was in the neighborhood, 3 houses away, when an oncoming car came. I swerved my passenger side mirror then struck a mailbox. The passenger window was down. In the process, on impact, the glass from the mirror exploded. When the mirror exploded, only then, the shattered glass flew into the window cutting a vane in my right arm. I bleed profusely for 20 min. I managed to slow down the bleeding but eventually went to medical center then to the hospital. Glass flew into and fragments of glass penetrated the seats in the vehicle and clothing on the body.
I have a 2004 Ford f150 lariat supercrew. On 6/11/09 I rolled all the windows down to air out the vehicle and then rolled them back up and heard a loud pop coming from the right rear window. Then the glass just fell down into the door. On 6/22/09, the same thing happened to the left rear window. After searching on-line I discovered that this is a very common problem with other owners of Ford F-150s. I then called Ford and they would not do anything to resolve the issue. I hope you guys can make them bear responsibility for these obvious defects.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford f150. While the vehicle was parked the contact attempted to open the front drivers side window when the glass fell into the door. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians replaced the window regulator. The contact stated that the drivers side rear window and the front passengers side window also experienced the same failure but had not been repaired because the warranty expired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
I have had to replace the drivers side window and regulator twice on my f 150 truck. As I was putting the widow up each time I heard a loud screeching noise as it approached the top of the door, then I heard the breaking of glass inside the door, then the window dropped completely down inside the door and it will not come up. This is twice I have had to replace it at a cost of about $400. This occurred on 02-25-2009. The first time was approximately two years ago. I searched the internet and found this is not an uncommon problem with the 2004 f150 fx4. I do not believe I should have to pay $400. Every two years just to roll up my window.
In the last 6 months there has been two separate incidents where the power window mechanism has broken and caused the window to be inoperable. This however is the fourth time this has happened. Every window power window mechanism "regulator" on my 2004 Ford f150 has broken all within a span of two years. It all started with the driver side rear, then the driver side front, then the passenger side front and now the passenger side rear. Yesterday 01-21-2009 in the middle of the day while driving in the rain. The regulator gave out and the window came sliding all the way down, in the f150 the windows go all the way down into the door so the glass is all the way into the door pocket, there was not a way for me to manually pull the window up and secure it without removing the door panel. I was unable to roll it up at the time of the incident causing water damage to the interior of the vehicle, personal property and my son. My son was in a car seat in the rear till we were able to get home two hours later in the cold & rain. This is absolutely unacceptable and Ford will take no responsibility for these faulty parts. Four window mechanisms in two years on the same vehicle is not just coincidence.
Ford f150 lariat window glass fell out.
I own a 2004 Ford F-150 super crew lariat: driver side window broke while at lunch, very loud noise and then window would not roll back up. Had window regulator replaced (under extended warranty) in July of 2008. . . Thought it was only an isolated incident. 6 months later, the same thing happened to the rear passenger window. Repaired for another 100 dollars under warranty. This time window broke while the truck was parked in the driveway. I fear the other 2 windows will break now. I am surprised the glass has not shattered and have been fortunate that I was not on the freeway during either incident. It makes a very loud sound when it breaks. Service guy at Ford suggested I call Ford customer satisfaction. Spoke with rep and she has absolutely no record of this happening to anyone else yet the discussion boards on the web are full of 2004 Ford truck owners with the same issue. I have owned Fords for the last 25 years and have been happy with the quality. But something is obviously wrong with the design or the materials on the window mechanism. It's a $45,000 truck, 84,000 miles and I take perfect care of it. Ford advertisements say it's built Ford tough and I believe them but the windows should not break this easily and only after 4 years.
My pregnant wife of 6 months was driving the 45 mile trip to home after work and her drivers side window popped and dropped. Current temp outside was 30, and snowing. I decided not to tape a bag to cover the hole because if it were to come off while she was driving the truck and blow into her face, it might have caused an accident. I cut a template out of plexiglass instead and placed it in the window channel. This is great because I can use it over and over and it will fit nicely in the passenger window when it breaks. The day we took the truck down to get it fixed it was 13 degrees, and 70 miles later we were at the dealer. $400. 00 later we were out the door with a new replacement that is no different than the old one with a design flaw. I did not know about this re-occurring problem when I bought the truck, and if I did I would have never purchased this Ford F-150. You want a bail-out, sell and stand behind your product before you ask for support from the consumer.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. While driving 25 mph, the passenger side window fell off the regulator and into the door. The driver's side window experienced the same failure one year prior to this incident. The contact feels this is a safety issue because the climate changes often and his vehicle could be stolen. The current mileage was 32,000 and failure mileage was 28,000. Updated 06/08/09 updated 06/18/09.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. When the contact opened the rear passenger window to air out the vehicle, she heard a popping sound. The window fell all the way down inside the vehicle door. This is the third window to fail in this manner within a year and a half. The only window which has not done this is the front driver's side. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 70,000.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford f150. While the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed the front passenger window rolled down into the pocket of the door. The window would not roll up or down. The vehicle is no longer under warranty and the contact was responsible for repairing the window. The front driver side window was previously repaired when the vehicle was under warranty. The VIN, purchase date, and engine size were unknown. The current mileage was 50,238 and failure mileage was 42,000.
As I was driving home from work today my drivers side window made a loud pop noise and it fell into the door, I was not lowering my window at the time, just basically driving normally. I am now unable to raise it. Last year it happened to me with my driver side back window. I had to take the door panel off and have it fixed. After reading previous complaints and seeing that it is a problem I am very worried about the safety of my children while I am driving. I am now going to try the dealer tomorrow to see if they can fix it under warranty. Living in arizona where the temperatures are very high this can be a dangerous problem.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the two rear windows and drivers side front glass separated from the windows frame. Exposed fragments of glass increases the risk of serious injury. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and a technician replaced the window regulators at an expense of $713. 00. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 11,000 and the current mileage is 65,000.
Complaint on 2004 Ford F-150 window regulators. I have three that have failed with two of them doing it twice. These case damages to the driver and passengers when glass is broken. It is also a huge distraction when window falls while driving. Glass is a big problem to children in car seats.
