4 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2020

Weather was 28 degrees fahrenheit. Leaving work I turned on my rear glass defrost and on my 20 commute to my home about 1 mile from my house at around 4:20 am central standard time my rear passenger side back glass shattered. All I heard was a loud impact sound like something hitting my roof and when I pulled up to my house and further inspected my vehicle that is when I noticed my rear glass had shattered and was still cracking. I looked for an impact mark but found nothing. Bed of truck was empty so only conclusion is that the rear defrost may have got to hot with cold glass but I really do not know.

5 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2019

Rear glass shattered while driving, there was no object that impacted the glass. Rear window defroster was on while it shattered. Outside temperature was 45f.

6 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2019

2010 F-150 was parked overnight in a residential driveway in freezing temperatures. When the truck was started at about 7 am the temperature was around 15 f. The truck was started and allowed to idle for about 10 minutes. When the driver entered the truck the rear defrost was started. While the truck was still parked and about 1 minute after the defrost button was hit there was a large pop. Upon investigation, the driver's side panel of the rear window had shattered. There was no evidence of anything striking the window, and there had been no visible defects to the window prior to the incident. The cause appears to be related to the defrost being activated in the cold temperature.

7 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2019

It was snowing around 6pm on 11/11/2019 and I began to drive. As soon as I left the driveway I turned on the rear defrost. I got 1 mile down the country road and came up to a stop sign. I stopped, and just as I released the brake to begin to take off, I heard a loud "pop" sound. So the glass breakage happened when the vehicle was just beginning to roll forward. When I heard the pop, it scared me, and I hit the break and put the truck in park. I looked back to see what had caused the noise and saw that the passenger side rear window had shattered. It was still intact, but the glass was completely shattered. A friend of mine had told me that this happened to his 2011 f150 also. So on 11/12/2019 I called my insurance rep and started along the path to getting it fixed. I need it fixed quickly as my daughter's car seat sits in the rear passenger seat and I do not want to take a risk of her being cut by the broken glass. I then called safelite autoglass. I scheduled an appt for 11/18/2019 (earliest they can get me in). I went to safelite on 11/12/2019 to get the window crash wrapped. The manager told me that he could not do the crash wrap as there is nothing for the wrap to hold to. He also told me the tint is doing a better job holding the window together than his wrap could. He manager told me that it was odd that it broke and that he did not believe it should have shattered like it did. The manager also looked over the inside and outside of the window and noted he saw no signs of damage. He recommended that I call a Ford dealership and see if there is a recall. I called the local Ford dealer and they told me there was no service bulletin for the window and there was nothing further they could do. The dealership then gave me the number for Ford customer service. They also said, there was nothing they could do as Ford has not issued a recall for this.

8 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2019

Sitting in my driveway on Nov 8th, 2019 I started up my 2010 Ford f150 pickup. I sat in the truck while it was warming. We had frost the night prior so I turned on the rear window defroster. Not long after the passenger side of the back window shattered. It sounded like an explosion. Very scary. The glass stayed intact pretty much but it was all cracked. After I pulled myself together, as I was totally unprepared for something of this nature to happen, I was pretty shook up. I drove to menards to get some plastic to tape it up. As I did the pieces of the window started falling out, both on the inside and the outside. There was glass everywhere. I took my truck to manley motors in belvidere , illinois where they documented it, and also filled out a form and submitted to Ford corporate. I also called the Ford customer service line and submitted a claim. The claim number is cas24904981. My 2010 Ford f150 is out of warranty by years. Not by mileage. I only have just over 50, 000 miles on it. It is like brand new still. There is not a scratch on it. In follow up with Ford customer service line I was told it will not be covered until NHTSA provides a recall for it. The lady I spoke to was well aware of the back windows being shattered in these pick up. From 2009 up to and including 2016. Its unfortunate because it is not covered under my insurance. I am on social security disability, 61 years old and since this repair for parts and labor is nearly $1100. 00 it is not in my budget. It will have to be taped with plastic for quite a while.

10 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

As I was driving to work this morning with my rear defrost on - Monday 10-21-2019 around 7:30 am on the same hwy I take everyday, I notice smoke coming from the passenger side back windshield, as think in my mind what the hell I need to pull over to check it out, all of a sudden a loud boom goes off and my back passenger side windshield explodes. . After collecting myself I stop to check it out and notice where the smoke is coming from, as I'm looking at my back glass I notice the smoke is coming from the outside of the windshield around the rubber gasket, it was literally melting. I also have a video where you can hear the cracking/ melting of the back windshield.

11 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2019

2010 F-150 rear driver side window shattered for no apparent reason while back into my nephews driveway.

12 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2019

This morning (8/5/2019) my rear driver-side window spontaneously shattered, again. There was no impact (I have a camper shell on the vehicle). I was traveling at highway speeds on smooth terrain. This is the third time this has occurred. The first two were similar in nature: the first one was while the vehicle was in motion on smooth surface streets and the repair was done under warranty; the second was while the vehicle was parked and the dealership was willing to pay for the repair. In each case, I had to (and will have to again) pay to have my camper shell removed and stored while the repair takes place.

14 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2019

When you press the window defrost button the right panel of the rear glass overheats and shatters. This has happened twice now when leaving the house. The first time it happened the truck was 1 year old in 20 degree weather with frost on the windows and the second time was 80 degree weather with windows fogged up. It's very startling to hear an explosion right behind your head when you are driving sounding like and gunshot or brick being thrown into the vehicle.

15 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2019

At 6:00am on 5-26-2019 I started vehicle with both defrosters on. It was parked in driveway. I let vehicle run about 15 minutes to remove fog from windows. Upon re-entry I noticed a burning smell like when you start your furnace for the first time in the winter. I tried to locate the odor, I noticed the odor was strongest in rear seat on passenger side of vehicle. I noticed that the back glass was now shattered but intact. A police report and investigation was performed. The officer concluded that there was no impact. I placed packing tape on window to secure glass until it can be replaced.

16 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2019

I was driving to work on 2/5/19, around 6:45am, and had the rear window defrost on. While in motion on a city street, I heard a loud pop coming from the vehicle. The sound was loud enough to be mistaken for a gun shot. After trying to figure out what the noise was, I noticed in my rear view mirror that the passenger side rear window was completely cracked. I was amazed the entire window didn't collapse inward. After coming to a stop and inspecting the window closer, I was unable to see where any foreign object impacted the window. I believe this incident was caused by the rear window defrost heating the window too rapidly and causing the class to expand too much, causing the failure.

17 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2018

Takata recall. When pulling out into traffic on a very busy highway as the on coming traffic speed limit is 50mph, I'm pulling out on the highway with a safe distance between cars on this busy road as I accelerated my 2010 f150 fx4 super crew cab "with my family in the truck I might add" the truck just down shifts and it slams me and my family forward "like I hit a tree going 30mph" the truck shuts off completely and a symbol of a wrench pops up on the dashboard. With no power steering, no power breaks, no way to safely move the truck off the road at this point due to the traffic I was trying to avoid was passing me going at least 50mph almost getting rear ended by several cars and semi trucks, I push the flashers on and pray that nothing bad happens and coast until the truck finally comes to a stop after about 30-45 seconds. I get out of the truck after the group of vehicles pass by and inspected to see if the engine or transmission was blown up or leaking fluid and nothing at this point so I'm stressed out because my family and I could have very well died and there is no proof of this when I restarted the truck no symbols was present when inspected by a mechanic. I keep telling the mechanic that it has no power any more, it sooooo sluggish I can't even drive the truck much anymore, only on short trips to the store. We had to cancel or vacation and cancel the purchase of a camper for our vacation. I'm sorry but if Ford was a real symbol of safety and security of its owners this would have never happened in the first place. This needs to be fixed ASAP!!!.

18 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2018

The passenger section of the rear window shattered while the rear defroster was activated. The vehicle was parked in a parking lot of a restaurant and without anything impacting the window it just shattered. For about a week leading up to the incident there was a funny smell whenever I used the rear defroster, melting plastic, that I couldn't pinpoint. Initially, I though it might have been the seat heaters.

Failure Date: 01/26/2018

The passenger rear window lite (glass) on my 2010 F-150 svt raptor shattered when the vehicle was parked running and the rear defroster was on. The shattered glass stayed in place, but requires the complete rear window to be replaced. This is a common reported issue online with Ford trucks of this age, where Ford will not issue a defect replacement.

25 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

Was driving down the road and noticed the right side of the rear window smoking. Before I could pull over, the window exploded and the entire right side was shattered. My son was sitting in the seat directly in front of it. Upon further inspection, I noticed where the rubber seal around the window was melted from burning, and there was liquid draining from the area. I was traveling to take my kids to school and had my rear defogger in use. I have noticed numerous complaints about this issue from others, but Ford has not issued a recall.

26 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2017

Back window passenger ( sliding back glass unit) shattered after approximately 12 minutes after turning on rear defroster. The temperature was 34f with no frost on back window. I was parked in my truck, warming it up on a ~10 degree morning. The back glass had a layer of ice and I turned on the rear defrost. A few minutes later, while still parked in my driveway, I heard a loud pop. The passenger side back glass was shattered. It is a power sliding, tinted back glass in three sections.

30 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2016

I left home for work on 12/8/2016. The temp was 7 degrees out and my back window was slightly iced over. I turned the rear defrost on to clear up the window. Within ten minutes I heard what sounded like a gun going off. Upon inspection I realized that my rear 3 peace window had spider cracked into thousands of peaces. The sound it made sent me off the road to a frantic stop. This was in town going 30mph. I'm so glad my kids weren't in the rear seat as there is quite a bit of small glass peaces. This will set me back $600 and I cant imagine ever using the rear defrost button again as it might be a faulty switch that caused this or a faulty window. It seems the more I find on the internet the more I realize this is fairly common. Ford motor CO. Should really do something!.

31 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2016

On a 20 degree morning I turned on the rear defrost and in about five minutes time I hear a loud noise. Upon looking around I found the back window had shattered on the passenger side. I was stationary at the time, thankfully, because the sound was a lot like a gun blast and if driving I could have swerved, it startled me so much. The window is shattered into thousands of pieces and visibility out of that window is severely hampered. This is an obvious design flaw and it effects the safety of the vehicle and a recall should be issued.

32 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2016

Got into vehicle for 1 mile trip to train station, outside weather conditions were 46 deg. F and overcast. Turned on windshield defrost - both front and rear. Failure Date: 04/28/2016

Drivers mirror was foggy due to early morning moisture. Turned on my heated mirrors which are also connected to the rear sliding window defroster. About 2 minutes later while driving I heard a loud sound, like a gunshot. The passenger side back glass had shattered due to the defroster imbedded in the glass.

34 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2016

Was operating the rear window defogger and the rear passenger side section of the power rear window slider shattered. The local Ford dealer acknowledged it is a problem but Ford has not recalled. The local window repair company said that most times it is the passenger side that shatters. The truck is out of warranty and repair is not covere.

35 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2016

While using the rear window defrosters, the rear passenger window shattered. This is the second time this has happened to this vehicle. The first time, Ford covered it as a warranty. This time they will not cover it since it is over 100,000 miles. Both the service manager at the Ford dealership and the customer care representatives acknowledge this has been a problem with these vehicles. Both times the window shattered occurred while driving on the highway. The first occurrence happened in June and the second time was in February. Temperatures were extremely different. June was in the mid 70's and February was 0 - 5°f. The shattered glass went all over the rear passenger seat. Clean up was a hazard as the glass is very sharp.
