Cold start horrible grinding noise happening for over a year, that I've determined is a stretched timing chain and commonly reported and complained about by ecoboost owners and should be addressed by Ford.
My 2011 f150 fx4 has been acting up with the transmission. This has happened multiple times and the dealer is unable to replicate it. So far they have changed all of th coil packs, reset the transmission, changed all the spark plugs in a hope that was the issue. Well it's not. The truck lunges forward with loud bangs and grinding noises. Rpm's go up and down and the truck sounds as if I downshifted from 6th gear to first. Then I can only go 40 miles an hour with high rpms. Engine lights have lit up and now a wrench. This is crazy my gauges don't work this is dangerous.
Takata recall there is a cold start noise kinda sounds like a grinding noise also have a huge power loss when ever trying to accelerate. I get codes p0016 p0017 p0299 . I have changed all came and crank sensors.
Primary timing chain wear. According to TSB. 15-0044,the structure of the timing chain is inferior to the point it stretches. If it breaks, the engine will be compromised and a full re-haul of engines interior will be needed. A loud grinding noise is always heard upon startup in a "cold" start up. Several complaints on line concering Ford's below standard of material / cost of any repairs. Also mentioned is after repairs are done, same trouble returns in short period of time after repairs. Unknown the affect the timing chain will have on vehicle if it breaks in transit. Note: as far as I can tell, the issue has started as soon as vehicle purchased reaches "out of warranty" mileage status.
