I purchased my 2011 f150 ecoboost in used condition in 2014. The primary use for my truck is around town errands and hauling light loads. For sometime now I have had issues, like many others have complained as well, during acceleration at 45+mph the engine loses it's power, shudders and stalls. Once there is a reduction in the amount of throttle, it takes a few minutes to regain "normal" driving conditions. For example, my family and I were coming home from florida on the parkway, in July and with no abnormal weather conditions, and as I was ascending a grade about 75 miles per hour and a semi truck behind me, I gave the truck more throttle and it began to shudder violently, a subtle backfire, and lost power and could not regain throttle response. I quickly moved the truck into the emergency lane and had let the truck return to a normal idle, took a few minutes, before almost getting into a serious collision with the semi-truck. Over the past years I have just dealt with the issue and have taken it to mechanics and scanned the truck with no error codes or issues, until just recently. The mechanic scanned it and it showed misfires on #4 and #6. He replaced the coil and plug hoping that would be the cure, but with no luck it did not solve the issue. I'm reluctant to drop another $250. 00 to replace the rest of the coils, but I don't know what else to do. I do not have disposable income and the truck is payed for, I and can't afford to get another vehicle. I enjoy my f150 and plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off. I have read post after post and video's that there are many people experiencing the same issues, but it seems no one is willing to step forward and make the complaint. I want this issue addressed and I hope Ford will resolve the issue before someone is seriously injured or a life is taken over this problem.
Throttle body needs replaced after 120000 miles after car stalled into limp mode going highway speeds causing a dangerous situation. Truck diagnosed at baxter Ford south in omaha ne and anderson Ford in libcoln ne. This is a safety concern when the truck gave no warning signs and just hesitated and slowed down with little or no response to throttling. There are hundreds of cases of this with the Ford F-150 2011. There have been other Fords around that year that have had throttle body issues. I don't know why this is. It a recall?.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. While driving various speeds, the vehicle shook and stalled. The vehicle had to remain parked for a while and multiple attempts had to be made for it to restart. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to bill alexander Ford Lincoln Mercury (801 e 32nd st, yuma, az 85365, (928) 344-2200) where it was diagnosed and a computer reset was performed; however, the reset made things worse. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, there was a sudden loss of engine power and the vehicle hesitated to the point that it could stall without warning. Capital Ford (3660 s carson st, carson city, nv 89701, (775) 882-5353) was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to schedule a diagnostic appointment. The vehicle hesitated while at a stop, during acceleration, and while making a turn, which caused the contact to have to downshift. Customer service campaign program number: 15n05 (electric vacuum pump recall) was referenced as a possible cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle shifted into first gear on its own. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally. The vehicle was taken to bill marsh Ford (located at 408 w mile rd, kalkaska, mi 49646, (231) 258-9192) where the transmission was upgraded. The vehicle was repaired. On another occasion, the engine performed as if it were misfiring. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine and timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After leaving the independent mechanic and while at a stop sign, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle failed to start and was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was later taken to another independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that he replaced the timing chain on his own, but not the engine. The vehicle was later taken to bill marsh Ford gaylord (located at 1928 otsego Ave, gaylord, mi 49735, (989) 732-6737) where it was diagnosed that the engine valve on the left bank failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees and still remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The contact was referred to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Upon hard acceleration, while trying to pass a vehicle, the vehicle shudders, shakes and stalls. The mph goes down and down even if pressing the gas pedal. I must pull over, put the truck in park and turn off the truck. Avoiding a head on collision is difficult when this happens. After restarting the truck, the engine light then comes on. This has happened on four different occasions. The gas mileage is now inaccurate and it appears that the "miles to empty" does not match the miles driven. Rivertown Ford (columbus, GA) claims to have no knowledge of this type of situation. Spark plugs & boots were said to be the cause the first time on 6/2/18. The 2nd time 12/12/18, the "intercooler shield was installed & pcm reprogrammed" -- I was promised this was the 100% fix. As of 2/28/20, rivertown advises their fix is out of warranty and now requires $650 for "engine tear down required to determine point of failure".
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled and failed to reset. The contact stated that an unknown red warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to hagen Ford (3980 euclid Ave, bay city, mi 48706 (989) 684-4600) where it was diagnosed that valves within the engine came in contact with the engine heads and the engine needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under warranty for the timing chain. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was out of the 24 month coverage because it began at 28 months. The manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 85,000.
The engine on my 2011 ecoboost 3. 5 l v6 Ford f150 shudders and stalls when you try and accelerate. The problem is sporadic. The truck has 67,000 miles and has stalled out when I was trying to accelerate into busy intersections or making turns at least three times and has happened while driving on the interstate four times. It was quite scary and extremely dangerous. The dealership says that the issue is my truck and not a Ford problem, though this is clearly something that has occurred in countless 2011 ecoboost f150 engines as it is all over the internet. This engine should be investigated by your organization and the vehicles should have been recalled. Below is a link with thousands of complaints that are all the same. . Read more...
The engine (3. 5l ecoboost) has a rattle in the front region when started and at lower rpm's which was followed by the check engine indicator (timing chain issue). When driving in the city the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light and started to shake violently. The shaking ceased upon accelerating. The vehicle was immediately driven to a mechanic where we learned that the vct unit (exhaust side) had separated and a piece of the internal component flew outward boring a hole through the valve cover. We do not know where the projectile ended (hopefully not into another vehicle or pedestrian). It was also found that the oil was so low (from the hole in the valve cover) that it did not register on the dip stick nor did the indication alert notify the driver in the instrument panel. We brought the vehicle to a local kendall Ford dealership for the rattle/misfire issue before the vct ruptured and they gave the truck a clean bill of health after the replacement of a spark plug on cylinder #2. The misfire occurred when we were driving on a long highway 60mph and started to shutter and shake which almost caused us to crash (it already has the cac TSB fix installed). Nhtsa should re-open the investigation on that because the fix did not work. It may have improved it, but didn't fix the problem. We have contacted Ford on may 4th about this issue and the representative said there is no recalls or alerts concerning our vehicle and we would have to fix it out of pocket. We are currently trying to work something out with the dealer. However, this issue when searched appears to be a very common one and due to faulty parts, Ford should in good faith offer a recall because for this fix, like ours, is about $2000. 00 conservatively. Our vehicle has about 121,000 miles on it.
At 50 mph while accelerating in traffic the engine shook and I lost power. This only happens with the ecoboost engine. Ford told the NHTSA this was corrected and the suit was ended. Ford will not install this repair in my truck.
My 2011 Ford F-150 with the ecoboost package will stall upon acceleration. The engine light will flash momentarily. This is a safety issues as it causes the vehicle to act in a manner that inst predictable when changing lanes on an interstate or passing. This has happened on multiple occasions and a simple google search indicates this issue is widespread with this model.
Engine losses power and shudders badly when trying to accelerate to over take. Engine light comes on and when diagnosed says misfire number 4 cylinder, checked and installed new plug and coil after 50 miles the same problem and dealer says they can not fix issue. This is the third time this has happened after coils have been replaced. The replacement coils were oem motorcraft units. In reading about this problem it appears that this power unit has a large number of complaints and issues.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford f150. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning while he drove at 40mph. The contact was able to coast onto the road shoulder. The vehicle resumed normal function after restarting the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer whom performed a diagnostic which was unable to locate a failure code. However, the dealer found that the coolant system was not separating the sludge causing the sludge to penetrate the engine and activating the vehicle limp mode. The contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired. However, the contact stated that he will install an oil separation device to the vehicle himself. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 31,263. Li.
My vehicle as been miss firing since it had 20,000 miles. I have been involved in almost 2 accidents because upon merging onto oncoming traffic my vehicle will misfire, slowdown and will not speed up fast enough to merge onto the highway safely. Because of this I have almost been hit twice by an 18 wheeler truck. I have taken the truck back to the dealership and they stated the miss firing due to air cooling system and it destroyed my catalytic converter. The dealership replaced my catalytic converter and installed some type of cooling shield, and now at 110,000 miles it's miss firing again and running sluggish. The cooling shield that was installed did not fix the problem at all. Not only is the on going miss firing life threatening but has destroyed my catalytic converters twice which is causing my emissions to emit harmful smog into the environment. Isn't their emission laws automakers must abide by? the miss firing is messing up my emission's which is harming the environment too.
I have taken my truck back while under warranty they never could find anything, but it had a mis when I would get on the gas. It never really stalled out but would jump pretty good, never seemed to run really smooth. I keep telling the dealer to please check out. I give up and keep driving the truck and now that its out of warranty they find that its something to do with variable camshaft and going to cost $4,400. 00 to fix not counting the other things I having to pay for that was taken back while under warranty. From the day I bought the truck water has been in the passenger floor board and now they tell me, its the heater box need replace at a cost of $1,400. 00 strange they can find all this now that I have to pay for it. My truck had to be parked due to this and I now have to figure out if I want to invest any more money in a truck or just junk what should be a truck worth $30,000. 00.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed the turbo boost needed to be replaced. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,626. Sr.
I was merging on to the highway and the truck started violently jerking when I tried to accelerate. I had to pull over to the side of the road to prevent getting hit by faster cars. I let off of the accelerator and the truck regained composure after a minute or two. Now I can't give the truck more than a 1/4 throttle or it will start jerking again. Since that incident I have had Ford replace the intercooler, install a shield put over the top half of the intercooler per TSB 13 -8 -1, re-flashed computer, replaced spark plugs, and replaced fuel filter. The problem still persist today.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. While driving at approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician stated that the vehicle was operating as designed, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,500.
Hello, we wish to file a complaint on the 3. 5 l eco boost engine in our 2011 f150. We have had numeous issues of shuttering, lurching, "lag", loss of power/lack of response. We first had this issue passing a semi on a 2 lane highway July 2014, no there was no fog/rain. It immediately shuttered, shook, lurched (coughed/sputtered) loosing power as we were passing. We made maneuvers to get to the shoulder where it struggled to stay engaged. We could have been hit head on, rear ended, side-broaded by the semi or worse, a combination of all 3. Not to mention stranded. We have read of other issues, lawsuits and complaints being filed. The "sheild" did not work (we have it, installed 8/2014 & flashed comp) it happened again two days in a row last week. The truck had no load either time, what if we were/are pulling our trailer? (the reason we bought this 60k truck, Ford said it would) now they claim spark plugs are fowled, that is a new "fix". (not covered) however that is a seperate "carbon tracking" plug issue, (the next "issue" could be the ignition plugs fowling due to carbon tracking from the moisture issue) the problem is not plugs, the major problem is moisture! Ford is not addressing the moisture problem causing the "failure". They are fixing symptoms of the issue. The problem-moisture in the pistons water & engines do not mix! they have not fixed the problem which should fall under lemon law. Next there will be a terrible accident (if not fatal) due to the loss of power/response, what then? ". . It was operator error, they slowed/stopped in the middle of the lane in traffic". . Tests are exactly what they are; tests. We are every day life; drive the truck for transportation, not petal-metal 24/7, "grocery getters", value our truck. Since when are our lives indispensable or not important? when is any one going to do something about this safety issue before someone dies?.
I accelerated hard on a highway entrance ramp and the engine started to stutter to the point I thought it might stall out. I let off the gas and accelerated again more slowly with no problem. Thinking it was a one off I accelerated hard again and again the car stuttered. I went easy for a couple days and then again accelerated hard a few days later with the same result. I got online and realized I wasn't the only one having issues with this engine. On 4/18/14 I took my truck to the dealership(landers Ford, collierville, TN) and reported the problem. They were familiar with it and said there was a fix. This fix included installing a moisture deflector and reprogramming the computer. It was performed and I left the dealership. Yesterday, 4/23/14, it happened again. I am planning on going back to the dealership tomorrow.
Since owning a new 2001 Ford F-150 ecoboost, I have noticed several issues with the engine. Loss of power when accelerating, shuttering when braking and poor fuel economy. I have taken the vehicle in for service and they have applied technical service bullitins, but the issue returns. The latest problem was a failed coil pack causing my vehicle to almost stall on the highway. Ford didn't cover the part under their powertrain warranty.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would shake violently and fail to accelerate. The check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The dealer stated that the air deflector plate failed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 40,000.
While in wet conditions truck will stall, loose power, and shutter. While driving up a hill on busy interstate the truck stalled. Had to take foot off accelerator to get the truck to go. We were almost rear ended because of this. This has happened many times!.
Truck frequently goes into limp mode/stalls. This has happened at various speeds, times, terrain, etc all over the country both with and without our camper attached and both with and without tow-haul engaged. I've taken it to the dealer numerous times and each time they've updated the software according to some TSB that's been released. I've had the deflector put on, cam changed, and now they're replacing the throttle body.
Attempted to pass a car. Speed at time of attempt was 55mph. Time 2:20 p. M. And partly cloudy. Two lane road but had plenty of time to pass or an accident could have occurred. Pushed down on accelerator and the engine actually decreased speed/significant deceleration. I let up on gas pedal, maintained speed then was gradually able to pass. Think the turbo had stalled. This had happened once before, shortly after I purchased the truck. At that time I was merging onto interstate and it stalled out, for a shorter duration. After the July 31 incident, I took the truck to Ford to inquire about the issues some owners have had on the eco boast engine, which I have. No codes appeared so I was told they couldn't do anything. Then talked to regional customer service and got the same story. I am very concerned as I use the truck to tow a 26' trailer. When the eco boast turbo works, I have plenty of power to merge or pass. The above experience was scary and I did not have the trailer behind me at the time. Now I feel I can not reasonably depend on it to work as it should. I think it is the turbo but it could be the electronic gas pedal, or the transmission but I really do not think these are the issue. Please help! thank you.
Ecoboost engine. Loud clattering on cold start. Runs very rough, exhibits propensity to stall when idling, and very sluggish acceleration coupled with transmission issues. Example 1: coasting on the freeway with traffic around 40mph, shifted lanes, then made attempt to accelerate and pass another vehicle, but the vehicle did not downshift. Accelerator will be down to the floor, and truck will remain stuck in a low gear (like 6th) and go nowhere. . . Zero acceleration. . . After a few more tries, and a few seconds later, the transmission will slam into 2nd gear, shaking the entire truck. At this point, the turbos kick in and the truck takes off like a rocket. Creates 2 dangerous situations, a potential rear-end accident by the lane change without acceleration, and then the sudden, rapid, unpredictable acceleration of being randomly thrown into 2nd gear. Seen various other incidents like this in other scenarios and various gears. Accelerating out of a traffic circle, or out of a turn, is an easy way to see the problem. Truck has basically lost its ability to accelerate/downshift on demand. Example 2: stopped at a stop sign. When I then proceed into intersection. . . Acceleration is very slow, then all of a sudden turbos kick in resulting in rapid unpredictable acceleration. Often times, the wheels will spin, and if the road is dry, the truck will bounce up and down all over the road! accelerator will in the same position the entire time. I have rapidly accelerated towards cars that I didn't want to get that close to. I now have to stay even further away from cars to maintain a safe distance due to unpredictable acceleration. Frustrating, because the problem is frequent now, but inconsistent. I have 2 kids in booster seats, and now I have to be especially careful when I drive with them in this truck because I feel it's unsafe.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while at a stop and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnosis. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 13,000.
I was driving to florida in my 2011 f150 ecoboost and on the highway at about 65 mph my truck started stalling and lost power miss firing and would not go over 10 mph causing me to pull over on the shoulder . I then turned the truck off and back on 10 mins later and it began to run fine agian. I took it to Ford and they say no engine codes went off so they did not know why it would do that.
Traveling on I 20 during heavy rain , got off interstate to refuel and after reentering interstate accelerated to get back to highway speed and truck stalled went to shaking real bad and engine light came on. Would not accelerate just shook real bad and I pulled over turned it off for a few minutes and restarted and continued on. No more issues once the rain stopped.
While accelerating from the ez-pass lane at a NJ toll plaza, with no warning, the truck experienced a violent shudder and complete stall (engine power loss). Although the power did come back up within 3 seconds, it was very frightening and I felt my family was in danger with vehicles coming up behind us quickly. Luckily, we were able to get off the highway.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford f150. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle vibrated and lost acceleration power without warning. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The coils spring was replaced several times; however the failure was not corrected. The vehicle continued to vibrate and would also stall without warning. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 108,163. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated when the vehicle was turned on the engine idled excessively and the began to smoke. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle also stalled while driving approximately 20 mph. The contact was a able to drive onto the emergency lane and restart the vehicle; however, when the accelerator pedal was depressed the transmission disengaged and the rpms increased. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing but they were unable to locate the failure. The dealer replaced the turbo charger line; yet, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000. The current mileage was 23,800.
Issue started again on 10 Aug. 2013. When under mild to heavy acceleration (such as merging onto interstates) the engine develops a significant miss and shudder. Vehicle was repaired once on 20 Mar. 2013 under TSB # 13-3-3. Weather does not appear to be a factor. The "miss" was so severe with a k&n air charger high-flow intake kit installed that I had to reinstall the stock system. This was a none issue eventually because the Ford dealership would not place the vehicle on diagnostics until I had reinstalled the stock kit.
When accelerating my f150 cuts out and hesitates along with a rough idle. I have taken to local Ford dealer and it shows to be a misfiring issue in 4 of 6 cylinders. Ford recommended replacing a couple of parts, but it did not fix the issue. The printout given to me said it may or may not fix the issue and was under further investigation with Ford engineers. The truck has been maintained on time with scheduled oil changes, etc. . . The truck now has 75k miles and has an extended warranty up to 125k miles. Each time the truck has begun to misfire and stall out the engine light comes on and has heavy vibration until stopping and restarting the truck. The dealership replaced the spark plugs because they were all burned out which seemed to help, but continues to idle rough. It's just a matter of time before they burn out again. I spoke with someone from Ford and they offered me no help other than to stay in touch with my dealership which who knows when Ford will release a fix. I now pay for a truck that I bought an extended warranty for and does not run correctly. Everyone that rides with me has said, "man why does your truck idle like this?" my truck stickered for $41,460. This is unacceptable to have a nice looking truck that doesn't perform up to par.
Event occurred 3 times over a period from 27 oct 13 to 21 Nov 13, decelerating while towing a trailer. Speed varied all three times from a high of about 60mph, to a low of 45mph. Message center would turn orange and display a wrench symbol, while the engine discontinues producing power. After pulling over, simply turning the vehicle off, then restarting, everything appears normal again. Two Ford dealers "found no codes", and were unable to further diagnose the issue. The second dealer attempted to collect data via an onboard computer as well, but the event wouldn't repeat while the device was installed, nor was I towing during that time. One of these events occurred on a two lane road with no shoulder available. Traffic had to stop until I restarted. Dangerous at best. The third even occurred going up a one lane freeway flyover. I was able to coast past the bridge structures and onto the shoulder, however, this occurred during rain, and multiple other vehicles had to make accident avoiding maneuvers, including tractor trailer rigs. Very dangerous. I have replaced the vehicle.
