I was on a two lane residential road. It had been raining and the street was still damp. The speed limit is 35 mph. I was slowing to make a left turn, when the power steering went completely out. I barely missed hitting 3 telegram poles which are located at the intersection. The power steering assist failure blinked on and off so quickly I am still not sure if I read it correctly. I was also too busy trying to correct the vehicle out of the on-coming traffic. I was turning off the 2 lane road onto a residential street in a residential neighborhood, that normally has cars parked and intermittent vehicular traffic. I was scared to death. I am grateful that I was slowing for the turn and more grateful that there was no on-coming traffic. This happened without any warning and it took me approximately 15-20 minutes to make it home (which is less than a half of a mile). The power steering was completely gone.

The contact scheduled a diagnostic appointment for may 29, 2019 with five star Ford richland hills (6618 ne loop 820, north richland hills, TX 76180, (817) 500-0096). The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 71,150. The VIN was invalid.
The power steering failed, it is almost impossible to steer. This is a serious safety issue, and could easily result in a deadly accident. I am not finding a recall for this, although it is obvious that Ford has known about it for years. The dealership wants $2295 to repair it.
Full power steering system failure. Zero power assist.
The electrical power steering failed in motion on a city street tunring.

Electric power assist steering failure, while making a left hand turn the steering failed part way through the turn causing the truck to go straight, because of this I almost hit 2 parked cars. When this happened the steering wheel locked up and I could not turn it. This is a known issue to Ford as there have been thousands of recall for these units from 2011 and newer, my truck falls in to the recall void.
Electric power steering failure, sudden loss of power, when moving and turning.
The electronic power steering fails intermittently. Most often it fails while in the process of turning left while in motion. When it fails, the steering goes to manual which makes it difficult to control the vehicle and complete the turn. It's very dangerous and could easily cause an accident or injuries.
Electronic power steering assist failure causes the steering to lock. Vehicle is impossible to control without extreme effort. Failure occurs in the middle of a turn. At only 44000 miles. This is a poorly engineered design, not a result of abuse or normal wear and tear.
Primarily while turning left power steering goes hard. Usually recovers after turning to right. Intermittent total power steering failure. As yet, unable to determine reproducible sequence of events to demonstrate issue to dealer.
When the electrical power steering fails, one is unable to turn the wheels any further. This can happen when the vehicle is moving or stationary, and happens at all speeds, doesn't matter city or highway driving. I feel this is a critical safety issue, since one would be unable to turn the wheels in order to avoid a hazard in the road, I. E. A child darting out onto the streets, or, if one what following a curve in the road, one would not be able to follow the curve, and could end up off the road, or, impacting an object on the side of the road, or, end up in a body of water, or, down an embankment.
I was driving down a state highway, and signaled for a right turn. As I slowed and began my turn the power steering system quit and because of the increased turning effort I wound up on the wrong side of the road onto which I was turning. A warning message appeared on my dash that I had a power steering failure. I muscled the truck over to the side of the road. I turned off the engine and restarted it. The power steering worked for about 1-200 feet, then failed again. Fortunately, there were no other vehicles heading in my direction when I went into the opposite lane. I was able to "muscle" the truck to the side of the road and stop safely. I got the truck to the dealer and was told it need a new electronic power steering assist unit at a cost of $1,600+. This seems like a safety issue to me. What if an inexperience driver had been driving or someone without my size or strength?.
While driving the vehicle at approximately 40mph, down a windy, canyon road, I noticed a loud squealing noise as I was rounding a left turn at two different intervals of my steering to the left. At each interval/squeal, I noticed the vehicle was not actually turning, causing me to almost miss the turn and go off the road. I was able to slow down to about 15mph, and with continued force pulling the steering wheel harder left, I was able to make the turn. This continued for the remainder of my 8 mile drive into town, with problems persisting when turning either left or right. I also noticed, as I got into town, that my blinkers suddenly stopped "staying on. " they would blink once and turn back off. This was true for both the right and left blinker. I drove straight to the dealership, and in parking noticed that the squealing and the lack of "turning during the squeal" was even worse when the vehicle was moving at a slower speed -- pulling into a parking spot. After diagnosing my truck, they found the gear assembly - steering needed replacing. On my invoice it says "1 el3z*3504 gear asy - steering". My truck has 56283 miles on it. I have found numerous cases online of people that the same thing has happened to, even some who have actually gotten into an accident because of the same electronic power assisted steering failure.
My 2011 Ford f150 -with only 39000 miles- had a complete failure of the rack mounted electric power assisted steering module which prohibited it from being driven. The failure caused an increase in steering effort (no power assist) of the vehicle which needed to be towed to the dealer for repair. Fortunately, the vehicle was not being driven at that time and was parked at the time of the failure. In addition, a driver alert was observed that inidicated that the power steering rack had failed and warned to service the power steering system. An attempt was made to reset the system but the message returned again after restart and the power steering assist was not functioning. The vehicle was towed to the Ford dealer who indicated that the power steering rack had failed and would need to be replaced. Total replacement cost was in excess of $1500. 00. The vehicle only had 39000 miles inidcated on the odometer. This is very similar to reports of the failures on sedan vehicles installed with similarly designed power steering racks. It is recommended to NHTSA, that the recall/investigation of this issue with sedans be expanded to include Ford light trucks.
