On multiple occasions, driving at highways speeds, the vehicle with go from 6th gear to 1st or 3rd gear, causing a lock up of the tires skidding till the engine speed slows to match transmission gear. Both times there have been vehicle behind me and have had to swerve to avoid. The first time it happened in 2019/05 and a pcm recalibration was done at a dealership, and I was not aware that there was a recall available for this specific problem, replacing the lead frame in transmission. Now that its out of the recall date that was issued by Ford, it is now showing the exact same issues, 2022/01/30. After every time it happens, a warning lamp has not signaled on, and no error code results. I've talk to multiple dealerships and Ford customer relations, and will not issue the recall.
My truck has been experiencing sudden downshifting. I took it to the dealership in June of 2021 and mentioned the csb 19n01, they said because there was no codes stored that were related to this problem they couldnt replace the leadframe, but said they would reprogram the pcm ,this did nothing . Yesterday my transmission slammed really hard and check engine light came on. Code p0501 (vss vehicle speed sensor) truck was built in 5/2012 which means it is still within the csb guideline of 10 years 150000 miles. Just because the error code isnt the one that is on the checklist that they use to determine if it qualifies for the csb doesnt mean the problem isnt there. I have about 3 months before my 10 year extension is up, this needs to be repaired ASAP. Thank you.
While driving at approximately 60mph my vehicle shifted into first gear and aggressively skidded into oncoming traffic with my wife and two daughters in the truck. After regaining control, I drove it to my residence where the issue was repeated two times at slower speeds. After calling my local Ford dealership, they stated that there were two open recalls relating to the issue, 19s07 relating to the pcm and 19n01 relating to the leadframe. Apparently the two issues have resulted in many crashes and multiple fatalities. 19s01 was completed on my vehicle in 2019, however they did not mention or fix the leadframe issues in 19n01 despite it already being an open recall with national attention. I did not receive a recall letter or notification despite the serious nature of the issue. While I was within the warranty window for the leadframe at the time of service for the first recall, I have recently driven past 150,000 miles. The same Ford dealership stated that while the two recalls would apply, they were under a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty. I am within 10 years, but at 163,000 miles. After discussions with my dealership and two customer service representatives at your call center, I am extremely disappointed to hear that this known safety issue will not be fixed on a 9 year old vehicle because I am 10,000 miles outside of your warranty issue.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact’s husband stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted from 6th to 3rd gear. The contact stated that the power train warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer and diagnosed with needing the powertrain control module (pcm) replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 156,543.
The wrench symbol comes on and the digital instrument screen goes blank and the transmission either gets stuck in 5th gear or will start off in 3rd and only shift through 5th gear. You can turn the truck off and restart it and most of the time it will reset and start off in first and the screen will return to normal. Unusually when this occurs when starting to drive again it will not shift out of first gear and at this time you have to disconnect the battery and reconnect after 15 seconds to regain mobility. I have replaced the pcm to no avail. The new pcm is registering a code now for the output shaft speed sensor which has had a recall in other 2011-12 f150 models. Through research and conversations on Ford truck forum's I have learned a lot of other people are having the same issue.
My truck was part of Ford's recall for the lead frame speed sensor. This is where the truck will down shift into first gear without warning. I got the pcm reprogrammed - which they considered a safety recall since it was supposed to keep the truck from downshifting if it lost the transmission speed reading. The warranty extension to replace parts was not considered a safety recall, but a customer satisfaction warranty extension - because the reprogram was supposedly going to cover the truly unsafe aspect by preventing a downshift. But that obviously didn't fix the issue. I think the parts replacement should have been a safety recall too (not subject to warranty limits). I had to replace the part because the warranty extension was only for 150,000 miles, my truck had 178,000 at the time of the failure. This repair cost me over 1200 dollars. They do a safety recall to reprogram, correctly say it's a safety issue. Then they come out and say OH, it works better if we replace the parts, but somehow get away with saying that not a safety issue, just offer a longer warranty?.
I received written notice from Ford that our 2012 year model, Ford, F-150 pickup truck was recalled under Ford recall: 19s07 and NHTSA recall: 19v-075. This is the recall having to do with Fords pcm programming being unable to cope with an intermittent failure of the transmission oss. The pcm would force the vehicle into 1st gear regardless of current operating speed (mph). I was just informed by a local Ford dealership that Ford cannot perform a fix on my vehicle because they only repaired the pcm for the v8 engine and have not yet gotten around to the v6 eco boost engines, even though the recall documents I received instruct me to take the truck in for the recall repair. Further, the recall documents I received have the vehicle info (VIN included) on each of them so one would assume the VIN was crosschecked with Ford's manufacturing data base to determine if the offered fix actually fit the vehicle. I am told that our vehicle does need the fix but it will not be out until some time later this summer.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). The vehicle was taken to autonation Ford littleton (8252 s broadway, littleton, CO 80122) where they reprogrammed the transmission control module. One week later, the contact had to take the vehicle back to the dealer because the transmission was unexpectedly downshifting into first gear. The dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was currently at the dealer. The failure mileage was 99,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. While driving between 30-50 mph, the gear shifter switched into neutral and caused the engine to rev. The failure eventually caused the vehicle to lose power. The vehicle was taken to salinas valley Ford Lincoln (1100 auto center cir, salinas, CA 93907) where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.
As we drove 55 mph on straight dry highway our vehicle suddenly downshifted into first gear causing rear tires to lock up. We were fortunate that we didn't have traffic behind us. We immediately pulled off on the side of the road, put into park fo collect ourselves and then proceeded straight to the local dealership service department to drop vehicle off. With research on this defect we found Ford had a recall out for this same issue (recall 16s19 which we never received) we were advised our VIN did not fall under the recall therefore we had to pay for the repairs. We were not given a reason why even though our f150 is a 2012 and was manufactured in dearborn mi July 2012. (we were finally able to get $100 refund from local dealership, however it was after a lot of phone calls. Not sure if it came directly from them or manufacturer and still does not cover out of pocket cost or months of time spent). After we picked up our "repaired"/paid for vehicle a few weeks later we experienced the same defect. We were taking trash to the local dump a mile down the highway going 30 mph and vehicle suddenly downshifted into first gear, mileage meter on dashboard blanked out and wrench appeared on screen. On the way into the service department driving 55 mph on dry pavement vehicle once again downshifted into first gear, mileage meter on dashboard blanked out and wrench appeared on screen. Local service department could not diagnose on their own, we had to wait over 9 days for Ford manufacturer to get back with them on how to fix it and send parts. They replaced main control/valve body in transmission, reprogrammed tcm (transmission control module) and cleared shift tables. Again they did not cover any costs and we had to pay hefty bill out of pocket when this is a manufacturer defect. The vehicle is a 2012 f150 4x4 super crew lariat eco boost with only 41,000 miles on it.
As the vehicle was traveling around 45 mph, the speedometer and tachometer dropped to 0. Once they came back online, the vehicle shifted into 1st gear causing the tires to lock up and the back end of my truck began to skid. After coming to complete stop, I shut the vehicle off and then started it back up again. The vehicle would then randomly shift and I did not feel comfortable driving it any farther. I had it towed to a local dealership where they informed me that the molded leadframe needed to be replaced and the pcm was to be reset.
On 5/9/17 I was driving my 2012 F-150 pickup on the highway at 60 mph when all of a sudden it came to an abrupt slow down and shifted into 1st gear. It was enough to cause a screeching of the tires and temporary loss of control. I eventually slowed down and came to a complete stop. Since I have the 5 year/100. 000 drive-train warranty. I immediately called the dealer I bought the truck new from to have it towed to the shop. After they took a looked at the truck they called back and reported that they could not find anything wrong with it and suggested a pcm/transmission reprogram. I agreed to this service work. Thinking this incident was very strange I did an internet search of recalls for Ford trucks. My search found a recall for the exact symptoms I experienced. The dealer called and reported my truck was ready for pickup. When I went to get my truck I questioned the service guy about the recall. He indicated that this was an issue with 2011-2012 Ford trucks but mine did not meet the build date guidelines to qualify for the recall. They would not cover the $58. 95 charge for the re-programming. This made me very upset. This incident could have had a very different end result if I would have hit another vehicle, went in the ditch, or worse yet been pulling my horse trailer. Please do something before someone dies in an accident.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle independently downshifted into first gear and the wheels seized. The contact slowed down and the failure subsided. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact was informed that the failure was related to a recall for the powertrain and Ford recall number 16s19. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The NHTSA campaign number was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000. VIN tool confirms parts not avaliable.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 10-60 mph, the vehicle sporadically downshifted and upshifted. The contact stated that the vehicle occasionally worked as designed. The wrench symbol was displayed. The contact stated that the failure was like NHTSA campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined the failure was due to the pcm, which had produced unknown codes. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would exhibit hard and sporadic gear shifting. While driving approximately 50 mph the transmission erroniously switched from 6 gear to 2 gear causing the vehicle to abruptly reduce speed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer dogget Ford 9225 north freeway, houston TX. Who diagnosed that the transmission valve body was faulty. The transmission control module was reprogrammed under the NHTSA recall number 16v248000(power train) but the failures continued to occur. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.
I was with my family on the way to church. I was making a right turn out of our neighborhood onto the highway when all of the sudden there was a complete loss in power and was unable to resume acceleration. The highway also has a moderate incline in slope which caused the vehicle to slow dramatically. We were almost rear-ended from the car heading in the same direction which was originally a substantial distance away. Luckily the car that was approaching from behind was able to slow down fast enough considering we had a 1 year and 4 year old son in the back seat. I called the local dealership and the earliest appointment they could offer to check the problem was on Wednesday 10/10/2014. This is over 3 days after the incident occurred. The truck only has 40,000 miles on it so I began researching this issue. I discovered that there are more than a substantial amount of complaints and it seems Ford is aware of the issue and is even attempting to modify the air induction system and re flash the pcm. With issues like the millions of vehicles being recalled for airbags that have led to serious injury or death, far beyond the manufacture originally becoming aware of the issues. How long is the issue regarding the 2011-2013 Ford f150 ecoboost going to remain shoved under the rug? how many lives have to be lost before Ford takes accountability for putting the public at risk. In their report to this specific issue (on the NHTSA website), it is more than obvious they have identified a defect in the 2012 Ford f150 and the ecoboost engines within the trucks. Can you help me understand how and why they are not being held accountable for risking the lives of many people. Also, why is the NHTSA allowing Ford to shrug this off and close this investigation? there is a clear defect present that has the potential of leading to loss of life. Is this not pure negligence?.
This write up is for a 2012 Ford F-150 truck with the 3. 5l ecoboost v-6 installed. Jan, 2013-while driving on I-24e, I was pulling out from the rest stop, just north west of exit 1. I went to pass a 18 wheeler and my truck came "unglued". It practically died in the passing lane when I pressed the gas peddle. It shuddered so hard; I didn't think I would be able to get off of the road before it died. It was missing and shuddering like crazy. I pulled off exit 1, shut the truck down and restarted. It ran ok without that same thing happening on the way home. I had a pretty descent "miss" in 6th gear, running down the interstate at 75mph. Something very strange happened here. It was the first issue I¿ve had with my truck. Although I¿ve noticed recently the mpg is down by 2. 0 mpg or more for the last three weeks, and this from refueling at different locations, and the same driving style. Ford applied the TSB to reprogram the pcm/tcm to latest level, installed a deflector shield on the intercooler and possibly replace the drivers side catalytic convertor if needed. July, 2013- this weekend while driving on I-65n, I had the same issue happen. The truck now has 17,000 miles on it. I've had the vehicle back into my local Ford dealer four times for this issue. The vehicle exhibits this issue when it's rainy and has been driven in the rain for several (50 or more) miles. In heavy traffic this is a very dangerous issue. The vehicle goes into some type of safe mode and will barely limp off the road. If this issue were to occur while crossing a four lane hwy, and sputtered one could be seriously injured or injure someone else.
