1 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2021

While driving (at any speed and from any gear) truck frequently, unpredictably exhibits following behavior: - speedometer need drops to zero regardless of actual speed. - truck loses proper shifting functionality. Event has occurred a dozen times or so since 12 December 2020, usually at speeds and gearing above third. Typical result is truck will not downshift below third gear, but on one occasion event occurred at a stop light, and gearing above first would not engage - odometer, trip meter, gas mileage and other digital information displays null out to dashes instead of showing numbers - a wrench symbol appears on right side of the digital display. Symbol sometimes remains for the duration of the event, and sometimes goes away. - sometimes the check engine light appears, sometimes not - airbag light illuminates if I turn the truck off, remove the key, and then re-start, the truck temporarily returns to normal function, with no indication event occurred (check engine light not on, etc). Truck operates normally until it happens again, often within minutes (or even moments) of the reset, but sometimes not again for the duration of a 20 or 25 minute trip. Truck is not safe to operate in this condition and I have now stopped driving it. I have been stuck at a red light on a grade with a load in the bed and traffic behind me, unable to move when the light changes, because first and second gear will not engage, and third gear lacks torque to get moving. Once, after accelerating from a stop, the event occurred and the truck was stuck in first gear, causing unsafe traffic condition (for me and others) while I attempted to pull over safely through traffic. In addition to photos submitted herewith, I have video clips showing occurrence at highway and at surface street speeds. Contact me if you want them.

3 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2019

While driving my truck will automatically change gears and the speedometer will go to zero. Sometimes it will drop into a low gear, sometime it will jump into and higher gear. On two occasions now my truck has gotten stuck in 5th gear while driving on the highway. When I come to a complete stop it wont downshift below 3rd gear. Both times this has happened the speedometer seems to short out as well and goes to zero. If I turn the truck off when this happens the transmission resets and all gears work until the next time it occurs while driving. Overall this has now happened 4 times over the past month. I took the truck to the dealership for a transmission related recall, they reprogramed the transmission and the issues has continued to happen. This is a safety hazard and should be address immediately by the Ford motor company.

4 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2019

Vehicle shows huge wrench on screen. Speedometer/odometer stops working and only have 3rd and 5th gear. Next the truck violently downshifted to 1st gear. Took to the dealer to have recall fixed. They said they reset the computer and downloaded new software. 2 days later, truck was stuck in 1st gear. Pulled over, restarted it and seemed fine. Now about once a day, will suddenly shift into 1st at any speed again. Seems like they never fixed. Back in the shop now so let's see what happens. Loss of work, and my safety is a huge concern. Paying for a vehicle that is truly unsafe!.

5 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2019

While driving on a city road transmission downshifted into 1st gear and was stuck in gear. I turned off vehicle and it went back to normal. Few weeks later it did it again. And then couple days later it began shifting from 1st to 5th every time this happened I would shut off and it would stop. Other day it got stuck in 1st gear again and a wrench appeared on instrument gauge. I looked on internet and it appears this is a common problem with this truck and that there is a recall when I called Ford I wanna told that mine doesn't fall under recall. How can the same problem with the same model and same year truck be covered for some but not all trucks. This is obviously a know problem that Ford is refusing to cover. This is dangerous and could cause someone injury or worse.

6 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2019

This truck is spontaneously shifting down to 1st gear. It is also getting stuck in different gears and not shifting properly, Ford supposedly has a customer satisfaction program extending the warranty to 150,000 miles for the lead frame, however I took it to my local Ford dealership and they do not want to honor the customer satisfaction program. I called Ford corporate and the same thing. Not only when this problem happens does the transmission mess up but so does the instrument cluster, to the point where the speedometer doesn't work and the airbag light comes on.

7 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2018

This is an update to previous report: 11129849. Following the initial sudden downshift to 1st gear the truck was evaluated by the local Ford dealership. No problems were found, however over the next 2 months the truck began to experience frequent shifting errors. The dash gauges would quit or blank out and the truck would become stuck in a single gear, most often 3rd gear. The frequency continued to increase until the vehicle was taken back to the Ford dealership, obd-ii codes were p0720, p0722. A previous Ford bulletin described the exact symptoms in detail however Ford reported my particular vehicle was not involved in the repair bulletin. After discussion with my local technician we elected to proceed with the repair bulletin even though I would have to pay out of pocket. This bulletin required replacement of the transmission lead frame. This has completely resolved the issue.

11 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

Around the beginning of July this year as I was driving around my speedometer and digital gauges on my 2012 Ford F-150 quit working and the truck began shifting very hard. I was able to pull over and restart the engine, and upon doing so it began normal operation. Over the course of the next couple weeks it did this same thing approximately four (4) more times. The last time was the most serious as I was driving down the highway about 65mph when my truck suddenly dropped into first gear and almost forced me off the road along with my two (2) year old daughter who was riding with me. I was able to maintain control and guide the truck off the roadway. However, this time upon restart the truck, while parked, was continuously revving at about 6,000rpm's. Upon a second restart it went back to normal operation. I called my local Ford dealership, cavalier Ford chesapeake square, and spoke with lindsay givens who told me it would be a "hot minute" before someone could look at my truck. I dropped it off after hours that night (07/20/18) with a written description of the problems. I was later contacted on 07/24/18, by phil causey, saying they were going to take a look at my truck the following day. I never heard anymore and upon calling the dealership on 07/27/18, and speaking to tanya howard, I was advised my truck still hadn't been looked at and phil was off until the following week. On 07/31/18 I received a call from phil and he stated that while they were driving my truck around it got stuck in first gear on them as well, and they located the problem in the leadframe of my transmission. The diagnostics shows my truck read codes p0722 and p072. This recall https://media. Ford. Com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2016/04/27/Ford-motor-company-issues-three-safety-recalls-and-two-safety-CO. Html covers this exact problem on my vehicle, however Ford will not honor it.
