Ecoboost engine in this model is known to have functioning problems when it warms up and you are on the highway at highway speeds. The truck will start to lose power and almost feel like it will stall at highway speeds. It is a known problem with Ford and well described on many auto forums on the web. I took my truck in and they are charging me for a "fix". This is a documented problem which Ford even has as an internal service bulletin about. I have never been charged by any other auto company when they come out with a service bulletin except for this company. More importantly I had to explain what is on the web about this to the service tech at the Ford dealership--like a patient explaining to his surgeon what the problem is and how to operate on him to fix it---very odd and concerning. Either way, it is very possible to get into an accident on the highway---and maybe it has already happened. My son primarily drives this vehicle and has been mentioning it to me for months. I passed it off as bad gas or the way he was driving. We had taken it to a firestone dealer for an oil change and they recommended we take it to the dealer .
When I start the truck the engine light is on, while driving the truck stalls and looses power and the tool sign comes on in read out window. I have to pull over and put the truck in park and restart it. This happens every 100 yards or so. I under stand this is an ongoing problem with the 2012 f150 Ford trucks. I can't understand why the want have a recall. I understand they need to add a deflector shield under the motor. It's very dangerous when a vehicle looses power while driving down the highway.
On Friday November 4/2016 at approximately 2:00 pm I was traveling west bound on highway 401 in my 2012 Ford pick up (vin1ftfx1cfocfc04553) towing a boat when my truck lost all power and stalled. It was all I could do to safely get my vehicle to the shoulder and this was only due to the fact that I was traveling in the right lane at the time. I did not feel safe on the side of the road where I was and tried several times to start the truck and drive up the road to an off ramp to exit the highway but the truck would only start and immediately stall. Apparently, a very tiny spider had been pulled into the mass air sensor and this somehow killed my truck and almost me. How does Ford allow a sensor like this to completely shut down a vehicle and what is or has Ford done about such a obvious dangerous safety issue here that can clearly cause serious injury or death?.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the engine had sludge, the vehicle had a strong hesitation and stalled more than twice. The vehicle was taken to a dealer more than once for an inspection and diagnosis. In addition, the vehicle was also taken to a repair shop for inspection and diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
My f150 is constantly experiencing the exact dangerous malfunction that safety recall 16s19 describes. Ford is not providing any rental assistance and currently does not know when a solution will be available. My transmission will have issues shifting to the next gear, rev up way farther than necessary to shift and then stall. I have to turn off my truck and turn it back on several times to get rid of the issue just to get me to my destination. This occurs on 50% of my drives around the city. I will not dare take it further than 10 miles in fear that I might be stranded and forced to pay for towing. Ford has also told me I must prove something is wrong with my vehicle to even apply for a rental. My local Ford service is not able to find anything wrong besides the exact issue I'm describing. It's a pandora's box, built to put the consumer in the worst position risking injury or death driving a faulty vehicle or paying the bill for a rental.
2012 F-150 ecoboost with 55k miles. Sever loss of power and missing during idle and acceleration. The issue started at 15k miles and after a lot of pushing, Ford installed the deflector shield for water. That solve the problem for heavy rain, but the missing, lack of power, and poor mileage has persisted and is getting worse. The issue happens when the vehicle is in park, stationary in drive, and while under power. It is really bad when it is under heavy power. This is dangerous when it comes to merging into traffic and loosing power all of the sudden. It seems to be worse when it is hot and/or hot and humid out.
Ecoboost, almost 5 serious accidents in a year. In Jan, my wife, 3 children & I were on I-85 in heavy traffic when my truck stalled. We went from 65 mph to 20 & no power. An 18 wheeler was barreling down on us & had to make an aggressive move with his brakes locked to miss us & the other cars. I pulled the car through 4 lanes of 65 mph traffic, doing 15-20 mph & turned the truck off to get it running again. Next, I was stopped at a light. When the light turned green my truck stalled out 3 times before the truck would finally go. Over the next month my truck stalled at least 10 more times. In April, Ford told me that the ecoboost had a problem & they performed TSB 13-8-1, reprogramed pcm & installed deflector. I haven¿t notice any power loss, but lost 2 mpg from my normal driving habits. In June, I merged into heavy traffic & my truck stalled. 65 mph to idle on a major highway. I don¿t know how I avoided an accident. I pulled off the highway & turned the truck off to get it going. My truck stalled 5 more times before taking it back to Ford. In August, my truck stalled at an intersection 4 times. I completely blocked traffic for about 10 mins. I got on the hwy & went 8 miles. My truck stalled 14 times¿ very dangerous. Every time I got the truck up to speed, it would stall & I would have to pull it over & turn the truck off and restart it. In Aug I took my truck to Ford & they replaced the throttle body. 2 months later it was stalling again. Ford told me that it was misfiring & that they needed to change the plug boots, spark plugs & the fuel filter. I was told that it was the next step they were required to do. So now I¿m paying Ford to test different things & hope that something works. Yesterday I pulled out onto a busy street & my truck stalled. I was almost t-boned. I am driving a time bomb. Every time I drive this truck I am risking my life & everyone around me.
I was pulled to the side of the highway (I-95) waiting out a heavy rainstorm. Upon pulling back onto the highway, my truck would not accelerate, lost power, shook and almost stalled out. . I was almost rear ended by a truck. This was the second time this happened since I bought the truck new. The first time was Jan -14 under the same location and circumstances.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while making a turn, the vehicle stalled and smoke emitted from under the hood. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 72,000.
Pulled into parking lot and truck stalled. Could not steer. Could not accellerate. Warning light popped up said low oil pressure. Was not on a hill. Ran vehicle health report through Ford sync service and everything came back ok. Will call dealership next. Had my daughter with me and it scared me to death.
This vehicle is equipped with the ecoboost 3. 5l engine. While attempting to accelerate onto a highway, the vehicle sporadically and unpredictably loses power, seems to have trouble shifting gears and shudders severely. Because this has occurred on several occasions while entering a highway, it poses a definite safety risk of being struck in the rear of the vehicle. Complete loss of acceleration or stalling while entering a highway could result in a crash that could result in serious injury or death.
Was traveling up the roadway on 6/1/14 in our 2010 F-150 XLT and went to make a turn into an intersection. The vehicle stalled and was rendered useless in the middle of the intersection. The vehicle lost complete power, steering capability, and braking was diminished tremendously. We were stalled in an intersection with cross traffic approaching at 55mph. With little time due to oncoming vehicles, was able to immediately restart the engine and proceed, before oncoming vehicles approached us in the intersection. Not very safe being that my entire family was in the truck. Ford has issued a service bulletin about the issue with the vapor canister purge valve and its needing to be replaced. However, I believe this is a serious safety issue being that the vehicle stalls when reducing speed (such as turning into intersections with other oncoming traffic coming at you). There is no recall in lieu of this potentially dangerous situation they are causing. Additionally, this problem with the canister causes a tremendous vacuum on the fuel tank, so much that it damages internal components and has raised questions about whether it is affecting the stability of the actual tank itself. When you go to fuel the vehicle, there is so much of a vacuum that you hear it release the pressure when inserting the nozzle. Immediately after fueling, the vehicle will not start for several minutes. This issue needs to be corrected before someone is seriously injured or killed due to their vehicle sitting in the middle of a roadway and being hit by oncoming traffic.
Multiple occasions go to step on the gas and the truck just doesn't accelerate, feels like a misfire or almost about to stall, this usually happens when at a complete stop at a light and light turns green, has also happened when rolling in traffic or trying to get onto highway at the on ramp. Another time driving on highway, stepped on gas and truck lurched forward as if someone hit me from behind and rpm kept accelerating even though I was not stepping on the gas. Have brought this to dealer and they claim they can't find anything wrong. I believe these are particularly dangerous because I'm expecting the truck to move so I can go along with flow of traffic and it just hangs on me putting me in a bad situation or it launches forward making me momentarily jerk the wheel and lose control. . I live in lake geneva, WI. I was driving home from work in the rain and had a truck pull out in front of me when I was going 70 mph. I was unable to slow down, so I hit the gas pedal. The truck stalled completely and would not accelerate. It felt the truck missed the down shift and never went back into gear. It was raining at the time of the incident around 630 pm. Was just scary as I had a semi behind me and another vehicle to my right that I was trying to avoid. The truck is a 2012 f150 lariat with the ecoboost engine.
I was traveling at 65mph and went to pass and at acceleration the truck stalled and almost died. I almost got rear ended by a semi I had to pull off on shoulder to a complete stop then accelerate agin. My truck has the ecoboost engine and hope they can recall and fix problem before somebody gets killed.
Since I purchased my truck there has been seven different occasions where I have accelerated to enter an interstate or pass a vehicle and the engine lost power and I could not accelerate. I have taken the truck in and they have replaced parts and said it was repaired. This past weekend I was entering the interstate in a construction area where barriers were on both sides of the interstate. I accelerated to enter the interstate and there were cars and a semi approaching where I entered. I accelerated to get up to speed with traffic and the truck stalled and would not take fuel. The approaching semi could not stop in time and had to swerve to miss me. He missed hitting me by inches and almost hit another car. With the barriers in place I could not get off the interstate when the truck stalled. I have the eco-boost engine and the vehicle is currently at the dealer. They are telling me they can not find anything that is causing the failure. This failure could have caused multiple injuries or deaths had the semi not been able to avoid hitting me or the other cars. I personally feel this is a safety issue with this engine.
Ecoboost engine: 7/06/13 first time after driving 90 miles on I-10, pulled off in rest area. When getting back on the interstate, went to accelerate to match traffic and engine fell on it's nose, felt like a stall then bucked, misfired , lost all power. When lifting off accelerator engine returned to normal. Attempting to accelerate again, engine lost power again. It felt like either bad gas or ignition failure. Was able to get truck up to speed using cruise control. With a light accelerator touch, was able to make in home from pensacola to winter haven, FL. Filled up with different fuel and problem seemed to go away, so I did not take it to dealer. Second occurrence 11/16/13 while heading to pensacola after driving several hours (70-75mph), when passing a semi going uphill on I-10, faster traffic was approaching from behind, so I attempted to accelerate to get around the semi to clear the left lane . Engine fell on it's nose once again, stalled, misfired, shook and lost power. The traffic was upon us in seconds. I was able to get truck back up to speed by gently using cruise. This time took truck back to dealer. They installed a "shield or partition" in the charge-air and did a reprogram. Current mileage is 14,800. Dealer did not seem confident that this was the fix. We will see.
On trip from louisville ky. To atlanta, GA in the rain, truck displayed the shuddering stall caused by condensation in the charged air cooler which gets ingested into engine causing motor to go into limp mode, truck has had two of the three TSB's performed as this is the seventh incident of the same problem since new. When truck goes into limp mode at highway speeds you are immediately at risk from rear end collision.
From stoplight to begin approach up a long/large bridge truck shuttered violently, lost power, did not show any codes, seemed to be in a "safe mode" as it did not stall but would not accelerate and lost speed despite throttle to floor or at any position to regain power. Weather was nice, not raining or overly humid.
First incident happened after vehicle had been driven on highway for about 15 miles. At stop sign, upon acceleration, engine began to shudder going through gears. Pulled over, stopped engine, started and began shuddering again. Vehicle was towed to rockwall Ford, dealer in rockwall TX. . Found loose connection (not the problem). Second incident: vehicle began misfiring around highway speeds. After reading forums and doing research, found moisture problems with intercooler (cac). Rockwall Ford dealer replaced per Ford procedure: replace cac and installed deflector shield for moisute at 20,170 miles. Third incident: vehicle continues to shudder at highway speeds took to different Ford dealer (randal noe in terrell, TX). Dealer very helpful and found truck to misfire. Ford however has no resolution to this problem and still have no truck.
While attempting to accelerate from a stop sign turning right my 2012 Ford f150 platinum 4x4 ecoboost stalled and would not accelerate for a few seconds. I thought the truck shifted into neutral but that was not the case. This has happened several times within the last 3 months and is getting more frequent.
V6 ecoboost my family and I were traveling in heavy rain on i65 in birmingham, al. I pulled into the far left lane to pass slower vehicles. When I accelerated the truck began to shake violently and rapidly lose speed and power. Several vehicles including a semi had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The second time was on my return trip home. We were traveling on a two lane road in foggy conditions. We came to an area when the road split so you could pass slower vehicles. I, along with a car following, went to pass a slower vehicle which had moved to the right. When I was alongside the slower vehicle my truck began to shake and lose speed. I had to take evasive braking action to fall in behind the vehicle to my right because they were running out of room. The vehicle following me also had to take evasive action to avoid hitting me. And the car to my right. I took the truck to the dealer when I returned home. They replaced the cac, installed a plastic shield, reprogrammed the computer, and replaced a defective cat as was the recommended repair according to the issued TSB. On April 18th I was traveling on hwy41 in the rain. Twice on my trip the vehicle began to shake and lose speed when passing slower vehicles. The applied TSB did not fix the problem. I returned the vehicle to the dealership at the request of Ford customer care. They were unable to find an issue. The day the vehicle was returned the second cat went out and had to be replaced. Ford has acknowledged the issue but has informed me that there is nothing they can do at this time. They offered to send me a buy back offer within ten days and after twenty days and several phone calls today they informed me that they are unable to buy back my truck. They also told me that I would have to live with the issue until they (if) come up with a fix. I am unwilling to put my family at risk.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 10 mph the vehicle stalled. Suddenly the vehicle accelerated without applying the accelerator pedal. The contact stated access fuel flooded the engine. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer regarding the acceleration and the engine fuel. The dealer could not diagnose the vehicle. The failure mileage was 8,700. Jo.
Having recurring issues with Ford ecoboost engine on my 2012 F-150. Below is a summary of visits to the dealership for service related issues: 3/13/13- engine light on, shuttering, shaking, and won't go over 70 on highway. Dealership found no issues. 3/29/13- engine light on, shuttering, shaking, and won't go over 70 on highway. Dealership identified issue as bad cac intercooler and replaced per TSB 130303c. 7/9/13- engine light and misfire. Also, transmission slamming forward as if being rear-ended. Dealership coil #2 and spark plug. Not able to verify the transmission slamming?? issue. 10/30/13-filed a complaint with Ford customer service. Still experiencing intermittent cac intercooler symptoms and transmission slamming. 1/3/14- another dealership found that the new cac intercooler had been improperly installed without deflector shield. Also repaired transmission issue. 1/18/13- engine light on. Replaced catalytic converter bank. 1/27/14- contacted Ford customer service with new information. Ford forwarded this information to the regional dealership manager. 2/2/14- still having cac intercooler issues during snow storm. 2/4/14- Ford customer service closed claim. Never contacted by any dealership representative regarding my concerns. I feel that I am getting the run around from Ford on this particular matter. I do not think they are taking the issues with these f150 trucks seriously enough. No permanent fix for the problem has been found, at least not with my truck. I am also concerned that you can take your vehicle to one dealership where they cannot identify a transmission issue, but another one can. Furthermore, it concerns me that this intercooler problem can create a safety issue on the roadway, yet, the dealership makes a repair without installing all of the necessary components.
While traveling at highway speed (cold winter morning), with cruise control on, started to climb hill, engine began to throttle up, then the truck began to shake violently, engine lost power. Shut off cruise control and coasted onto shoulder. Was able to slowly engage throttle and continue, but any increase in throttle above "gentle" would bring on the shudder and power loss. Engine light flashed and stayed lit for next 20 minutes. Experienced similar scenario later the same day. Took to dealer. Dealer indicated charged air cooler works "too well". Cools air so much that condensation forms and causes the issue. Dealer indicated a technical service bulletin had been issued on the problem. Need new cac and shield. Two weeks (+/-) before parts arrived. Dealer completed TSB 12-10-19 , according to the work order: replaced cac cooler assembly and installed new air deflector shield, reprogrammed pcm. Did not fix the issue. Same problem on the way home from the dealer. Drove it for one week assuming moisture may need time to "clear up". Problem still existed for 7 days. Any mild to strong throttle input would bring on shudder. One week after "fixed" with new cac, I tried to merge onto highway, at 60-70 % throttle, violent shudder occurred and engine began to lose power. Again, coasted on shoulder until truck would respond to throttle input without shuddering and power loss. Luckily, traffic was "light" at the time. Could have been a serious incident. Engine light came on and has not gone off for 3 days. Now any throttle input beyond "gentle" brings on the shudder. Contacted dealer, going back in. Truck has eco boost v6.
The contact owns 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 4,000 and the current mileage was 4,090.
I purchased this vehicle for my son in December 2012. We took a trip to alabama on the Saturday following the purchase. The truck had problems stalling, misfiriing, and not braking immediately. We have taken the truck to the Ford dealership for repairs approximately 15 to 20 times. It is in the shop again today for the misfiring/stalling. The service writer told my son that his vehicle has only been the shop twice for the same problem. We still have all the service paperwork to dispel that remark, this vehicle has approximately 24,000 miles on it. The factory warranty expires in December and has still not been fixed. It does not just stall in rainy or very humid conditions as stated by Ford in their response to the NHTSA investigation. They have replaced spark plugs twice, updated software, put a heat shield in front of the inter-cooler. None of these things have worked. The shield in front of the inter-cooler defeats the purpose of the inter-cooler by not allowing it to cool as intended. It raises the temperature in the intercooler in an attempt to produce less condensation. My son believes the inter-cooler has a design flaw. He thinks that the air return from the inter-cooler to the engine being on the bottom allows more condensation to be sucked back into the engine. If it were on the top, more of the condensation would stay in the bottom and not returned back to the engine. There is an after market fix for this problem but it is expensive and I believe Ford motor company does not want to spend the kind of money that it will take to fix this problem correctly. This vehicle should be able to operate efficiently under any conditions. If it does not, it is flawed. I will probably have to purchase the replacement inter-cooler out of my own pocket. I've included all this information in the event that it helps others with the same problem.
Loss of power when accelerating from a stopped position, more frequently as time goes on, and when truck has been driven for long periods of time. When first bought vehicle, there was a shudder and a shake extremely noticeable at 45 mph. The truck was brought into the Ford dealership where it was purchased and checked for a deflector plate. The deflector plate was installed, so a new intercooler was ordered and a long wait with this troublesome problem occured. The new intercooler arrived and was put in, but the same problems persist. The shudder and shake is now more noticeable at 35mph but is still there and noticeable as ever. The Ford dealership told me that Ford has a new service biulletin out, but has not issued a fix. This is a serious issue, and I hope that with all the driving I do, I don't get a loss of power when I need it resulting in an accident and possible fatality.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while the contact was hauling a trailer. In addition, the vehicle would not accelerate over 25 mph. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer stated that they could not detect a defect in the vehicle. The contact sent the manufacturer a letter detailing the stalling issue. The failure mileage was 26,000. Kmj.
This truck continues to have hesitation and almost stalls during hard acceleration. I have returned it to the dealer several times and they are not allowed to do the repair, which is know by Ford, unless there is a "code". They maintain this condition will not occur without the code being present which I am absolutely certain is not true. This is going to cause an accident before it is over. I called Ford customer relations and they will not perform the repair without the "code" being present. This is dangerous, Ford understands the problem and how to fix it but will not without the code being present, which is not always present when it occurs. Go Ford!.
On my way home last October after picking up my new F-150 at the dealership I was attempting to pass a car on the interstate. It was on a hill and when I pushed on the gas to try and pass the car the truck shuttered and slowed down losing power and speed. The best way to describe it was that it "bogged" down. There was no engine light. However, I knew something was wrong, but I figured I would have it checked out when I came in to get the running boards installed. A couple of days later, however, an incident occurred that was a bit more dangerous. I was attempting to pass a slower car on a two lane highway (no hill) when the same thing happened when I pushed down on the gas to speed up to pass--the truck simply bogged down--losing power and speed. The engine light came on. I took it to the dealership and they have said that there has been reported similar problems eith the engine and Ford was working on a fix. But so far there has been nothing from the company. I have avoided the problem by not accelerating the engine rapidly but this is not a permanent fix. There seems to be an issue with the ecoboost engine especially in rainy conditions. Mike smith.
