Truck currently has a recall on it due to it going into first gear unexpectedly. Took truck to closest dealership two weeks ago and had the recall service completed. Was told to expect my check engine light to be on for three or four days. When it stayed on a week I called them back to discuss the light still being on. Rescheduled a follow up appointment for April 12. On April 5 and April 7 the truck had the same problem that the recall was supposed to fix. Going approx 50mph when the truck went into first gear with wheel hop and some fish tailing. When this problem occurs the instrument panel will basically go to all zero's and it takes the truck being turned off for the computer to reset and allow truck to drive normally. Just wanted to document here since truck goes back to dealership tomorrow.
Vehicle backfired and started shuttering upon acceleration. . . Check engine light came on replaced ignition coil 6. 1000 miles later, same situation cylinder 1&2. . . Replaced those coils and replaced spark plugs. Shuttering lessoned, still backfired on upon strong acceleration. Definitely a safety concern. The backfire does not trigger the engine light to come on. . . From the research I've done, this seams to be a common problem with the eco boost.
While driving the truck would jump gears after a few moments it would smooth out research the issue found there was a recall for trucks with t he same issue but was told my VIN # wasn't covered. The leas frame was the issue addressed after this 900. 00 repair the check engine light illuminated codes suggested turbo and tune was needed these situations was not happening prior to the previous mention repair.
I have a 2012 Ford f 150 with 66,800 miles on it and have changed one of the turbos . About may of 2017 I noticed a shutter and shaking of the engine, then lose of power, failure to accelerate on hills, the vehicle would down shift for no reason or you had to put the gas peddle to the floor to even move then it would kick in and cause the wheels to spin. I took the vehicle to my local Ford dealer to diagnose the check engine light. I was told that one of the turbos needed replaced at a cost of $1800, well I had it replaced at my own personnel garage and after driving the vehicle 5 miles it had all the same issues. I called the Ford hot line 3 times asking what they will do to fix my truck, I was told the warranty ran out at 60000 miles, I explained the vehicle just started doing this and I did not haul anything and only drove it about 12000 miles a year, this should not be happening. This is very dangerous trying to drive a vehicle that losses power then accelerate without warning. Ford told me there were some recalls on the 3. 5 l eco-boost engine but not on my truck. I have been a Ford man for over 40 years, I bought this truck brand new in 2012 and Ford will not do anything but charge me more money, I do not beat my truck I baby it, I take very good care of my vehicles, this is not my fault it is poor engine designee and Ford should fix this for me because as I said it is a safety hazard for me and anyone else on the road with this engine.
I have a 2012 Ford f150 ecoboost. Recently my family was out of town trying to make our way home when my truck shutters and lost power for a minute, followed by a blinking check engine light and then a solid check engine light. I took it into my local dealership and was told I need to replace spark plugs and coil packs, and it would cost over $500. I was amazed by this considering the truck only has 55,000 miles on it and it is recommended by Ford to replace spark plugs at 100,000 miles. To add to my amazement, my fairly expensive extended warranty didn't cover this, not even the coil pack replacement, which to me seems like a warranty issue considering they went bad so early into the engines life. I know this is a common problem on these trucks and have read extensively on the issue. How is this not something that is being addressed?.
In heavy rain conditions after driving for 2 hours in the pacific northwest on the I-5 the truck ecoboost turbo stalled and lost power during a passing situation of a large 18 wheeler. I was driving at 60 mph, and attempted a pass, but was unable to pass due to power loss, shudder, and limp mode. Intermittent check engine light and partial limp mode occurred. This is the known stall/shudder issue that multiple ecoboost motors on f150s are experiencing in rainy damp conditions. Severe safety issue if you are trying to pass on a two lane highway and you lose power while trying to pass a logging truck and someone follows you and you get only half way. This is the second incident I have had with this truck. Dealer did a TSB that involved reprogramming the pcm and removing a deflector shield. This fix seems like a band aid, and Ford should be doing a complete redesign of the turbo cooler intake.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. While driving at various highway speeds, the check engine light suddenly illuminated. The vehicle went into limp mode and caused the speed to reduce to less than 20 mph. The failure occurred on several occasions and the vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times. The spark plugs were replaced, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 56,300.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 65 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle misfired and the rpms increased. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the charge air cooler and the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was partially repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
Vehicle is a Ford f150 2012 ecoboost v6 3. 5l. Vehicle was driven in high humidity and fog with cruise control on for a time period of around 4 hours without spooling the turbo chargers. Upon trying to pass another vehicle the gas pedal was pressed to accelerate. Vehicle began to shake violently, and began to lose power. Vehicle was able to drive at current speed but would shake violently when gas was pressed to pick up speed. The check engine light did illuminate. This issue was consistent with the issue of condensation/water in the charge air cooler causing the cylinders to misfire and vehicle going into limp mode. There was no issue when atmospheric conditions were optimal. This happened after the Ford dealership made the recommended Ford bulletin repairs. This issue has the potential of causing a fatality.
July 6 lost power to truck engine at 60 mph when going to pass in hard acceleration situation. Truck engine shuttered for over 3 mins until I could get it stabilized around 2000 rpms in a lower gear/speed. This was the first of two similar situation on the same day with the truck and throughout the remainder of the day any acceleration over 3500 rpms caused a loss of power. We limped the vehicle home that day. Next day check engine light came on and off until we could get truck into our local Ford dealer for service on 7-13. This issue has been researched via info on this site to no conclusion. I can say if you drove this vehicle and simulated this issue you would see the major issue this causes and potential risk of accident at highway speeds with acceleration. Specifically heavy traffic situations. The issue caused spark plug damage, catalytic converter damage and the dealer performed the TSB (4th issued by Ford) to attempt to fix the issue. This is a known issue, causes safety issues and should be recalled to permanently fix not try to patch with four different TSB. Fix this correctly before accidents occur that cause deaths.
Vehicle is a Ford f150 2012 ecoboost v6 3. 5l. Vehicle was driven in rain with cruise control on for a time period of around 3 hours without spooling the turbo chargers. Upon trying to pass another vehicle the gas pedal was pressed to accelerate. Vehicle began to shake violently, and began to lose power. This action nearly caused a head on collision. Vehicle was able to drive at current speed but would shake violently when gas was pressed to pick up speed. This happened twice in the same trip causing the check engine light to illuminate. This issue was consistent with the issue of condensation/water in the charge air cooler causing the cylinders to misfire and vehicle going into limp mode. There was no issue when atmospheric conditions were optimal. Again, this issue nearly caused a head on collision as I tried to pass another vehicle in an area which allowed passing in my lane. Ford re-flashed the the ecu and added a deflector shield to the top of the charge air cooler and it did not fix the problem.
Engine failed to accelerate when attempting to merge into traffic on interstate, almost causing an accident. Engine started shaking and check engine light came on. It had been raining and was very wet. After pulling off turned of engine for approx 15 minutes. Started driving again and did not experience any other problems.
There was a misfire and no check engine light. This happened 5 times before the computer showed there was an issue. On the third time I had Ford install the deflector to keep water away from the turbo chargers. The last time it happened the computer finally showed a check engine light. I took the vehicle to auto zone to have them diagnose it. The computer was showing misfires in 3 cylinders. When I got the vehicle to Ford it was only showing one cylinder having had a misfire. Based on this, and the fact that the computer didn't register the previous misfires. I feel there is a defect with the computer in my vehicle. Ford refuses to address the issue. I know there was an investigation on this, but the misfires have happened when it was not raining or humid, in fact the first misfire happened on a dry day. Also, I have had the repairs made based on moisture causing the issue and still have the same problem. Please advise.
While traveling at interstate speed of approx. 70 mph, I attempted to pass a slower vehicle going up a slight hill. There was a shudder and then the vehicle lost engine speed. I went from 70 mph to 55 mph without the abiliry to maintain any speed, I was not applying the brakes. I could not complete the pass and had to pull over to the side of the road. If I tried to maintain speed or accelerate the vehicle shook violently, waking up my family. The check engine light came on and just flashed. I pulled from the driving lane and restarted the vehicle. The light went off and I was able to continue the drive, had to be very mindful of my acceleration. It happened a second time the next morning, again passing; shudder and then an inability to maintain speed or increase it. I pulled over this time the light came on and stayed on. I will be taking it to a dealer this week. I was traveling for approx. Two hours prior to the first event. It was raining during the first event, the second event it was partly cloudy.
While driving on a 2 lane highway in northern wisconsin with my 11 year old son, I went to pass a slower moving vehicle in my 2012 f150 ecoboost and when I accelerated quickly the engine just lost all power and to avoid a head on collision I had to slam on my brakes and quickly return behind the slow moving car. Quite frightened, I didn't accelerate the rest of the trip north. While returning labor day, day, and on a four lane expressway I again tested the acceleration to have it happen again, but this time the check engine light started to flash and then shortly after stayed on. Being 400 miles away from home, I drove the rest of the way very carefully. After getting home and before calling the dealer service to schedule a service visit, I did some searching on the internet to find this to be a problem with f150 ecoboost engines. Doing some more searching I found the following article "NHTSA closes Ford-150 ecoboost acceleration probe" by noah joseph on April 14th 2014, detroit news. I was appalled that you would close an investigation when the reason to accelerate, could be to pass a slower moving vehicle, and to lose power during this move could be deadly! since I purchased this truck, I have made countless passes on slow moving vehicles on two lane highways and felt very safe to complete that legal move until Saturday, when, if I didn't take a drastic measure to brake and turn back into my lane, more than likely I would not have had the opportunity today to write this letter to you and more important, my son may have not been here either. I question why you made the determination to first, close the probe, and second, not demand that Ford take the necessary steps to correct the problem, that is clearly a safety issue. I would appreciate a response and hope not to have to take further action for you to resolve this oversight.
While traveling at 55mph, up a slight incline on the highway, I pulled out to pass another vehicle. As I pressed on the accelerator I had no engine power and the the f150, lariat, eco boost began to slow. The check engine light came on and flashed. I let off of the accelerator and then pressed it down again. This time I had power. I pulled back into the lane and everything appeared to be in working order.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure. The dealer performed a diagnostic which located several codes; however the codes did not related to the stalling failure. The dealer checked the engine oil for oil sludge but the engine oil was normal and the computer was reprogrammed. The dealer advised that they were unable to repair the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 8,000. Pam.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle would vibrate and there was a sudden loss of power. The contact also mentioned that the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph the vehicle stalled and the vehicle shook violently. The check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel during the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed a part in the inner cooler needed to be altered. No repairs were made to the vehicle and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The current and failure mileage was 63,000. Sr.
Engine shudder/viberation after accelerating. Loss of lights, dash instruments, radio out. Vehicle check engine light came on. This has happened three times before. Taken to dealer twice for repair.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the vehicle shook violently as the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed that the turbo for the engine had failed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred fours days later. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 17,847.
Since new my fuel mileage has been declining and I was experiencing a shudder, with no check engine light (cel). Dealer performed a TSB and replaced the charged air cooler and reprogrammed the pcm. This left me with worse mileage and a noticeable loss of power. This progressed until 1-19-14 where I lost engine power and the engine began to shudder when trying to accelerate to pass a slower moving car. When I floored it, the trans shifted down to 2nd, and the engine shook and the truck slowed. Once I left my foot off the gas, and coasted for 30 seconds, it returned to normal, unless I floored it again. No cel was observed until the next day on the way to the dealer. They replaced all 6 spark plugs due to fouling. I think there is water ingestion issue and that is what caused the plugs to foul. My concern is that if I had been in front a fast moving vehicle, I may not have have been able to accelerate and gotten rear ended.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 80 mph, there was a sudden loss of engine power and the vehicle began to shake violently. The check engine warning light was also illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the coils and plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 36,000.
When accelerating from a stop in a right hand turn, the truck lost power and began to sputter and misfire. This is the 4th time this has happened to this F-150 off road 4x4 with ecoboost since I purchased it brand new. After the second time it happened, the check engine light came on so I took it to the dealer. The fix was a deflector plate installed for the twin turbo. They did not replaced the cac (charge air cooler). I was told this would most definitely fix the issue. Clearly, this did not fix the issue since I experienced the same issue yesterday. This is a potentially dangerous situation as I was turning onto very busy m59 in howell. I turned in front of a semi. Thank goodness I had enough room since I had no acceleration after the turn. Had I not given myself enough room and chanced it, the semi may not have been able to slow down in time. This vehicle should be recalled and Ford should discontinue making the ecoboost engine until they get it right.
While accelerating to enter highway the vehicle lurched and lost power and the engine started shaking violently. I pulled off the road and shut the engine off. I started it again and it seemed to run fine for a time. Later while under a load it would miss. The check engine light came on. This could have caused an accident in this heavy traffic. I took it to the dealer and they ordered parts, but didn't seem to confident of being able to fix the problem. .
In heavy rain conditions after driving for 2 hours in the pacific northwest here in the state of washington, the truck ecoboost turbo stalled and lost power during an acceleration onto a freeway on ramp. Intermittent check engine light and partial limp mode occurred. Dealer misdiagnosed the problem as a loose connection when in fact it was the known stall/shudder issue that multiple ecoboost motors on f150s are experiencing in rainy damp conditions. Severe safety issue if you are trying to pass on a two lane highway and you lose power while trying to pass.
On 2 sept 2013, in florida, I was attempting to cross a two lane road into the median and merge into traffic going the opposite direction. When I attempted to accelerate the vehicle immediatley started to sputter and had loss of power that barely allowed me to cross before traffic arrived. The rough running continued after I attempted to merge into traffic and continued for about a 1/4 mile before where I was able to exit. It started running correct shortly after that. The weather was clear and around mid 80's, mileage was around 9500, speed was 0-50 mph. The second incident occurred on 27 sept 2013, in missouri, as I was attempting to pass traffic on I-70. The vehicle again started to sputter with dramatic loss of power that didn't allow it to maitain traffic speeds. The check engine light started flashing and I continued to the next exit. I pulled over and shut the vehicle off and started it again. The engine light became steady and remained on for the remainder of the 900 mile trip. It is being taken in for service. The weather was rainy and in the 60's. Mileage was around 11000 and speed was around 65-70 mph.
My wife and I were traveling on i81 north bound. I attempted to pass the car in front of me and when I accelerated (I pushed it to the floor) the engine died. There was an instant where I thought the car behin me was going to crash into the rear end of my truck. During the failure the check engine light flashed on and off and it took at least 1 minute for the engine to return to normal operation. . . I have not been able to duplicate the failure again. . . I call rising sun Ford dealership in maryland where I purchased the vehicle and will have it there this Wednesday for them to check out. . . The service manager was aware that there was a potential issue with this engine doing exactly as I described. . . Why do they not have a legal obligation to warn me of this issue with this engine before I bought it and most importantly what about all the other vehicles out there where the owners are clueless of this potential issue that can put their life at risk???.
Ford f150, 3. 5l ecoboost engine- while driving in rain, vehicle hesitated and misfired, with an associated check engine light on some occasions and not on others. Seemed to happen after cruising and attempting to pass another vehicle. Was unable to accelerate and continued to slow to 50mph. Had to ease on the throttle to slowly accelerated after the condition cleared. Vehicle in the shop 4 times for updates, 3 for changes to the intercooler and the last was for a change of the catalytic converter.
1st time happened when trying to pass a big truck, pick up lost engine power during acceleration that I barely made it, opposite traffic coming, vehicle lost all chances to made on time I was afraid not to pass on time this is a hazard issue if it happens again, I had to stop and shut down vehicle because I had a engine check massage at the main screen of dashboard with the wrench character image, after I restart vehicle everything was normal. 2nd time happen when made trip to texas on December 2013, when trying to enter freeway I had to speed up and suddenly pick up again lost power and start shaking I could no gain any more speed over 50-55 mph I almost got rear end it by a car on the back that was already in the high speed stream. This time the check engine came on, ;later started to drive ok. When I came back to home town I took vehicle to check the check engine light at autozone and retrieve the p0430 code. I took vehicle to dealer because still under warranty and explain everything. They check vehicle and retrieve the same code , they replaced only the driver side catalytic converter. I was researching on forums and they commonly have to replace not only cat but have to change intercooler, change plugs and re-flash ecu and or place a deflection plate on current intercooler but home town dealer only replace cat, I don't think this will fix issue. Please push Ford to address this issue, for experience this needs to be classified as a recall because safety issue is involved when you lost power when is need it. The actual intercooler on pre 2013 is not good because tends to accumulate condensation and this is sucked under boost condition and probably causing multiple misfires that leads to unexpected power lost and vehicle shaking. My wife and I bought this f150 new on 2012 ecoobost engine re great but this issue needs to be addressed.
Ford f150 2012 ecoboost ext cab 4x4 XLT after driving for several hours and stopping at a rest area I began to reenter the interstate. As I accelerated on the onramp traffic was moderate so I pressed on the accelerator even harder. The truck was in 5th gear and downshifted to 4th. The truck began to shutter and loose power. At this point I panicked and pushed the accelerator even harder. The truck downshifted into 3rd gear at which point it lost all power. All that I could do was let out at this point and hope to regain power. Fortunately traffic had moved over by the time I had made it to the end of the onramp at which point the truck had a clear and definitive miss and very little power. The truck slowly accelerated up to 60 mph and continued to miss for another quarter mile. After arriving at my parents home 5 hours later without another incident of full loss of power I dropped my wife off to get her car. As I pulled out the driveway only minutes later I punched the accelerator to see if the truck would do it again. The truck fell on its face. I could have got out and ran faster. Once again is missed for a quarter mile and cleared up. Today, I had to make a quick trip into town to pick up something for my wife. Again I punched the accelerator and the truck fell on its face and had no power. This time the check engine light came on and has stayed on ever since. Thankfully I have not been involved in an accident as of yet. These trucks need to be recalled before someone is killed!!!.
Noticeable lag during acceleration. Most noteworthy incident involved passing at freeway speeds, engine bogged down and car felt like it was about to stall. Have noticed this a few times since as well. We are in monsoon season, have had rain and higher than normal humidity. Have also noticed what feels like delayed and hard transmission shifting. Fuel consumption/mileage seems to be affected. (was getting 17-23mpg when truck was first purchased in March 21013, am now averaging 13-15mpg). Have also noticed vibration/shuddering when accelerating from a stop light or sign, and during downshifting. Vehicle is currently in shop as check engine light came on on 8/26/13. Ford is performing a cold-soak(?) the code that they pulled from the vehicle was indicative of a misfire but they cannot determine what is causing the misfire at this time.
I was getting ont the freeway on Saturday evening around 7:30pm and tryed to accelerate my 2012 F-150 ecoboost to merge and the egine lost all power. It was vibrating so bad and the check engine light was flashing and not to mention I almost got hit by another pickup truck because I had lost all power. I paid alot of money for this truck and I am scared to drive it. I pulled of to the side of the raod and shut it down for about 3-4 min and started it back up and it was fine. I am scared to drive it because of this issue and my wife waas terrified and said she will not get back in it.
