Cold starts create rattle in engine area. Ford TSB 16-0027 covers this problem but the dealer, dick witham Ford in waterloo, iowa continues to play games with covering this issue. Truck has been in several times for other issues, some covered, and I asked if there were bulletins about lag in acceleration or other things that may cause this. They told me multiple times, no, just a computer reprogram that I already had completed. Now my truck is making noise and by all reports on the web, it's going to get worse. Ford knew about this going back to August 19, 2015 (see TSB 15-0131) yet never told me or looked at my truck to see if that was causing my issue. Now with my truck just over 5 year old but still well under the warranty for miles, it may not be covered. However, the new TSB clearly states dealer coding 6c525 and condition code 42, it is under warranty via the emissions. This is my 5th new Ford truck over the years, I will not own another. With the price we pay for brand new cars and trucks the manufacturer must be held to what they promise the consumer. This is a timing chain stretch issue caused by poor design and the variable camshaft timing (vct) units leaking causing timing chain damage. Ford's fault, not mine.
While driving, I noticed that I was having to push on the accelerator harder to get power. I came to a stop at a stop sign and waited for an opening to turn left at the intersection. When I started to turn left, the truck started to accelerate and then the engine sounded like it revved up but there was no power or speed increase and a simply coasted out into the middle of the road. The traffic coming from the left was coming up over a hill and I was very lucky that they were able to stop before hitting me. The truck was able to pick up speed down hill, but lost speed quickly going up hill. I could see this being a dangerous issue when crossing a busy intersection or trying to pass. I took the truck to the dealership and was told the timing chain stretched. The truck had only 74000 miles.
3. 5 ecoboost engine 75,000 miles, engine noise on startup and check engine light registering a p0016 crankshaft/camshaft position sensor, and goes into "limp mode" with loss of power and poor acceleration. Dealership states this is a recognized issue with the timing chain and TSB 14-0194 addresses the issue. Dealership states this is a $ 1,500- $ 2,000 repair and is not covered by Ford. Timing chains should last longer than shock absorbers.
I have a 2012 with 78000 miles. I am experiencing the very common tsb15-0131. A few months back I started to hear a rattle at some engine starts but now it is occurring daily. I only started to research the noise recently and came across a lot of others on the web forums. I dropped it off at a local dealer. The guy made it sound like this is something new or never heard of. Long story short, they had the truck 4 days and claimed they heard no rattle when starting. After getting my truck back from the local dealer I have heard the noise every morning when I started the engine. I video record my engine at start up and plan to from now on. I called my purchasing dealer to see what they can do. They were going to check and let me know. I heard back and they say since I am out of warranty there is nothing they can do. They said I have to contact Ford customer service to go further and gave me the phone number. I contacted them who said the same thing. . Sorry no more warranty. I do not think this is right. I understand my extended warranty is just past but this seems to be a prevalent issue with the 3. 5 ecoboost engines. I paid over one thousand dollars to upgrade to this engine after seeing and hearing advertisements about its benefits and durability. Now, when it has a problem by no fault of mine, I am told that it will not be taken care of. This was my first Ford and will be my last.
I was cruising down the highway when all of sudden the truck would not accelerate and it felt like the engine had shut off. The rpm was fine, however on the speedometer it kept going up and down (my mph was all over the place), and it felt like some one was pumping the brakes (lightly). I tried accelerating but all it did was make a screeching sound. I had to pull over to prevent cars from rear ending me and placed in park. I noticed that the engine was still on at this point and pulled back out on the highway with no further problems. A few days later, I took it to a dealership which they ran a diagnostics and found no issues. On my way home from the dealership, I experienced the same thing as I was exiting i35.
Driving turnpike at 1:30am with wet roads but not raining. Cruise control was engaged at 75 mph. Approaching a bridge and upon starting to climb on the incline I heard a noise that sounded like the transmission had disengaged then the engine light started pulsating on and off so I tried to accelerate and the truck did not react but since I was going 75 it took me over the bridge and then I coasted down the bridge with the cruise control disengaged. I pulled over to the side and placed truck in park the engine was still on. I turned off the truck and waited about 1 minute then I turned the key back on and the truck started up with no engine light or any sign of problems. I drove all the way to miami with no further incidents. I took the truck to Ford of homestead and they said they could not pull a code out of the computer that showed anything had happened. I later took the truck again this time making noises when u accelerated it sounded like the transmission was shuddering and again nothing they could do to replicate it. Again on or around March 2013 I took the truck to another Ford dealer and tried to replicate the shuddering between 3 or 4 th gear to no avail. The truck this past weekend on the same bridge again with wet roads made the shuddering sound and feeling but the engine light did not come on and the truck upon getting to the top of the bridge continued without having to be turned off and on. At first I thought this might be a transmission issue but whenever I guess the truck accelerates to gain speed to go over the bridge or after leaving a stop or red light between 3 or 4 th gears it shudders and when the bridge comes around it goes to a lower gear and starts losing power. When it happens between 3 or 4th gears it is with me accelerating. They told me that the truck has a memory if you drive it hard or softly it remembers this and shifts differently.
