My truck 2013 F-150 v-6 trans. 6 speed 47k miles on 7/19/2020 truck down shifts dash speed off wrench came on on 07/31/2020 truck down shifts bangs dash speed off wrench came on on 8/4/2020 took truck to Ford and found code lead frame bad and will replace free on 9/9 2020 part was installed on 9/25/2020 trans. Bangs going from #2 to#3 gear wrench light on on 9/30/2020 took to Ford for problem code -no code was found on 09/30/2020 picked up truck and drove about five blocks to stoplight truck was stuck in 5th gear and would hardly move then banged into first gear called Ford back same day an they said didn't know anything and would check with Ford tech. This has been an on going problem with Ford 6 speed trans. This is a very unsafe condition and I can no longer drive this truck.
Hello, my name is ryan slatton and I just recently purchased a 2013 Ford F-150 with 98,500 miles 3 weeks ago. I had just gotten home from work and I had to take my girlfriend to meet someone. As we were pulling out the driveway I noticed that on the gear indicator in the gauge cluster it showed I was in 5th gear, I tried to accelerate a little thinking it was a bug in the cluster but it was actually in 5th gear. I got to the end of the driveway and shut the truck off. I proceeded to start the truck back up and pull out of the driveway because everything had seemed like it went back to normal. About 5 minutes down the road as I was going 60 mph the truck locked up the rear tires and skidded into the opposite lane, luckily no one was approaching me.
Widely reported- please read carefully! very similar to existing recall*, but not the same. Potentially deadly. Current recall does not address the sudden up-shifts mentioned here. 2013 Ford F-150 mfg defect: molded leadframe assy in 6r80 transmission symptoms: intermittent loss of speed signal causes sudden/unexpected slamming upshift from 1st gear to 5th when accelerating from a stop, causing a complete and unexpected loss of all acceleration. Indications: 5th gear suddenly indicated on display, dashes replace numbers on speed/mileage related displays (mpg, odometer). Speedometer may read 0, airbag symbol pops on, large orange wrench symbol may briefly appear. Pressing on accelerator does not cause downshift. Motor may stall. Remains in 5th gear without some other corrective action. Turning engine off and back on will reset the computer, and vehicle operates normally until next occurrence. Dangers: this could be fatal when pulling out into oncoming traffic, both from the side (pulling out in front of oncoming traffic from side street) or from rear (sudden, unexpected loss of speed/ no brake lights). Ford cannot fix this by re-programming the vehicle to ignore the faulty sensor any more than you can ignore an oncoming cement truck or train. Repair is approximately $800. If not recalled, owners may try to live with the risks or trade to an unknowing person, endangering lives of others. *this defective part is also the root cause of Ford recall #19s07, involving sudden violent down-shifts (not upshifts). Ford is avoiding the problem by re-programming the ecu to ignore the intermittent speed signals, allowing the transmission to fail more gracefully, defects to be repaired at owner's expense. This approach will not work for the up-shift problem. The defective part should be immediately replaced at Ford's expense to correct both problems.
Sometimes vehicle will start or get stuck in 5th gear either from the start or during deceleration. Engine revs, but forward motion compromised. Intermittent sudden downshifting at highway speeds. Gear indicator and tramsmission position will drop to 1st. This causes the rear wheels to lock up at highway speed and put the vehicle into a spin. Paid Ford dealership to complete TSB lead frame repair in April 2018. Problem has gotten worse. Opencase with Ford fleet service 15493350-j0v7c7.
Sometimes vehicle will start or get stuck in 5th either from the start or during deceleration. Engine revs, but forward motion compromised. More concerning is the intermittent downshifting at highway speeds. Speedometer has failed and turns off, reads 0 rmp. Gear indicator and tramsmission position will drop to 1st, go back to 5th, and waver anywhere in between. This has even locked up my rear wheels at 70mph. Pretty scary! this has happened a handful of times now. Thankfully, I have been able to shift to neutral, get to the shoulder, kill the engine, restart and go. I wrote this today b/c I got a wrench light finally, so hopefully they can diagnose this intermittent issue.
Transmission randomly shifts, sometimes into 1st gear even at 40 mph. Occasionally, speedometer, gas gauge, gear indicator all die and a yellow wrench appears on the display. My research indicates it may be the transmission lead frame.
Unexpected vehicle downshift. Unexpectedly downshifts while driving highway speeds. Speedometer will waiver erratically or bottom out down to zero. Gear indicator will drop to 1st, go back to 5th, and waiver anywhere in between. Vehicle comes to sudden drop in speed which barks the tires and throws the driver forward.
On several occasions within the last month, the transmission suddenly, without any warning, shifted into first gear while driving normally, with transmission in d. I estimate that driving speeds during these occurrences varied between 10 and 35 mph. During a couple of occurrences, the gear selection indicator could be seen flashing quickly between several of the lower gears. The date entered below was the date of the most recent occurrence. I have made an appointment with the service department of a local Ford dealer for Monday, Jan 22, 2018.
When starting from a stop, after transmission shifts into 1st gear, going to 2nd gear, transmission will disengage into neutral and engine will continue to rev. After 3-5 seconds, transmission will reengage and shift thru the gears to top gear. This only happens while vehicle is in forward motion and only on an intermitant basis, eg, not all the time. Also, sometimes while traveling at highway speeds, the speedometer will drop to zero for 1-2 seconds and then back to the present speed. Another issue is that sometimes while traveling forward, the vehicle will suddenly act like it wants to lock up as though it was placed into park. I have also come to a stop and when trying to start to move forward, the transmission gear indicator says that it did not downshift to 1st gear, but tried to start out in 4th gear. After stopping and restarting to move forward, it would finally downshift to 1st gear. Sometimes, the transmission will not shift into 2nd gear until the vehicle has reached 20-30 mph and then it will go from 1st gear to 4th then finally thru to 6th and final gear. I took the vehicle to a Ford dealership and they could not get the vehicle to do these things. They did tell me that Ford had recalled 2011 and 2012 model f150's for a similar problem. They reprogrammed the computer in hopes that it would solve the problem, it did not. I was told by the dealership that the leadframe valve body may need to be replaced or rebuilt to solve the problem. I am affraid to drive the vehicle very far, fearing a possible breakdown on the highway. I have scheduled another visit with a Ford dealer to possibly have this rebuild done. The vehicle has 86,000 miles on it and they estimate a substantial cost involved to do this. Do you know if there is anyone else having this problem and is there a recall for this ?.
