1 was driving 55 mph & it locked up on me shifted into 1st gear & is now stuck in 1st gear. I almosted wrecked luckely I wasn't far from home & it's been parked since.
I was driving down the road and my truck all of a sudden shifted down into 1st gear and became stuck. Had to stop the vehicle and turn it off. Started driving again and it did the exact same thing within 5 minutes. No lights came on or anything. Has done it for 3 days. I can drive in manual mode but it still has trouble wanting to shift but again no lights coming on.
Vehicle gets stuck in first gear sometimes and wont shift, several times vehicle has shifted to first gear on its own, also vehicle shifts erratically and gets stuck in third gear, dash quits speedo, tach, info center on dash quits working as well as odometer. Have to key off to re-set. This has happen mostly on city streets and occasionally on the highway.
When pulling off of a residential street onto a city street the evening of oct 1, 2019 (speed limit 45 mph) my truck got stuck in 1st gear. With traffic around me, I attempted to shift into 3rd 2nd and 1st, but no change. I went back to drive and still no change. Then a wrench showed up next to the odometer and the odometer went to - - - - - and speedometer went to 0, rpm still worked. I pulled off the road and turned off truck and restarted and all was fine. This happened to me a couple of days before, but when I shifted to 3rd, it started working again. I had the transmission related reprogram recall completed on 23 sept. Both shifting events occurred after the reprogram. This could be a serious safety concern if it happens at a busy time. Fortunately traffic was light when it happened to me both times. There doesn't seem to be a mechanical problem because turning the engine off and immediately turning on corrected the problem both times. It could be coincidental that this is happening after the reprogram, but I wanted to report because of the number of other people experiencing the same problems. It seems very similar to the descriptions from some people regarding the lead frame issue reported on the 2012 model.
I was on my way to work as a firefighter for my shift when with no warning my truck went from high gear straight down to first gear then to park causing sudden stop and a minor accident on i275 cincinnatti then coming home it instantly went into park on us route 50 causing my truck to go out of control and swerved over into the oncoming lane almost hitting someone head on then could not move the truck as it was stuck in park sitting sideways between both lanes I finally was able to get it to move again but it barely moved as it was in high gear stuck there. I was able to barely remove it from the road and had to have a tow truck retrieve it and bring it to my house this is a real safety issue that Ford is not in a hurry to fix on a recall issue on the transmissions therefore leaving me without a truck or vehicle to drive almost had a serious crash twice now. Plus my transmission is completely out of my truck now no movement for any loading etc.
***ongoing lead frame issue, reflashing your transmission does not work*** yesterday, (2/2/2019) , my 2013 f150 with 6r80 transmission suddenly downshifted from 5th gear to 1st gear @ approx. 45mph. This time the guy behind me had to jump a curb to avoid rear ending me, almost hitting a pedestrian. This vehicle had been taken into Ford 2 months ago with same issue, they said nothing is wrong because they could find no code, told me to come back when it's "actually broken". Took to independent shop, they performed the reflash per Ford's 16v-248 recall because this truck is exhibiting the exact same issues. After flash, shifting was markedly harsh from 4th to 5th gear. During this incident, I got a large orange wrench warning that went away before I could photo. Pulled into parking lot, transmission stuck in 3rd gear while parked, gauges are blanked out, and airbag symbol is on. Was able to get photos of these this time. Turned vehicle off for approx 2 minutes and restarted, condition was cleared with no residual warning lights, etc. Don't have the money for it, but I'm taking back to independant shop to have lead frame replaced at my own cost. This type of issue is a timebomb that will get someone killed, with so many complaints of this I'm not sure what the hold up is on an extended recall.
Output speed sensor failure causing transmission to get stuck in gear. Occasionally it will shift down in gear as you are accelerating causing a stalling effect to the truck. Has happened several times to my young son while driving on the highway at full speed. Speedomoter will also go completely dead. Usually pulling over cutting off the truck, waiting and restarting will take it out of the 5th or 1st gear it is stuck in. Sometimes this takes several tries. Very unsafe on the side of a busy road! had 2 transmission shops run diagnostics and it is the faulty speed sensor requiring entire lead frame to be replaced. Both shops told me to reach out to Ford before I pay to have it repaired with them. Same problem as previous Ford truck models '11 and '12 that Ford has recalled but Ford will take no liability for this malfunction. Called 2 Ford dealerships that both played dumb to the well documented problem. Called Ford itself and spoke to a csr I presume in another country from the broken english that said only there is no recall. . . Absolutely no help or information from Ford. I am having this repaired on my own dime as it is threatening the life of my son and everyone else on the road. Shame on Ford!.
The truck gets stuck in first gear and will not accelerate until the vehicle is shut off and turned on again. The vehicle was in motion on a city street and would not advance to second gear.
Truck erratically shifted to first gear while traveling at 55mph causing rear wheels to lock up as if I slammed on my brakes. There is a large wrench icon on the display which causes the speedometer to read 0 mph while the vehicle is in motion and odometer reading is dashes "-------. --" truck will also get stuck in first gear while accelerating from a stop which nearly caused me to be involved in an accident because I could not accelerate as I was expecting to. Truck will also get stuck in fifth gear while at a stop. Dashes and wrench clear when truck is shut down and restarted. Erratic behavior is completely random and makes me feel completely unsafe driving my vehicle.
Truck suddenly drops from 6th gear to 1 st gear and barks the rear tires while traveling at 60mph also the instrument panel goes completely out except for the rpm gauge it also down shifts from 6th to 5th and then will not upshift and only down shifts to 3rd gear also it has stuck in 1st gear when taking iff from a red light. It has done everything while traveling down the highway except for the 1st gear issue that happened from a stoped position when I started to take off. Problem does happen all the time and when you pull over and place the vehicle in park and turn the engine off and restart the engine the problem goes away and then it starts it again took the truck to local dealership and was told it would cost 985. 00 to fix this problem when it is the same problem that was recalled on the previous years truck same problem on the 2011 and 2012 also have read the problem is still accouring on the 2014 models as well.
My 2013 Ford F-150 ecoboost gets stuck in 1st gear sometimes while trying to move from a stop. It has also skipped 1st and 2nd gear and gotten stuck in 3rd gear and barely able to move more than 5 mph. It has happened from a dead stop as well as while driving 40 plus miles per hour. Typically pulling over and turning the truck off and back on fixes it. I am afraid it will happen again and cause an accident.
2013 f150 downshifted from 6th gear to 1st gear while traveling approximately 50 mph. This resulted in the tires locking up as if I had slammed on the brakes. It now continues to shift erratically from 1st to 6th to 3rd. It also gets stuck in 1st gear and then will randomly shift normally and then downshift back to first gear. This has been happening frequently for some time with hard shifting but this is the first time it has dropped from 6th gear to first gear. This is definitely a safety issue and I am finding it difficult to have any nearby Ford dealerships take a look at it within the next two weeks.
My 2013 Ford F-150 XLT with 71,000 miles is having transmission issues and problems with shifting and completely losing power while driving. This issue has started intermittantly about a month ago. While I'm driving, a giant wrench appears on the dashboard which is then followed by loss of power and acceleration. The vehicle is then stuck into a single gear and the speedometer and mileage computer go blank so I no longer know how fast I'm travelling. My vehicle issue seems very similar to the 2011-2012 Ford F-150 transmission downshifting recall from below. 'federal safety regulators are investigating whether to reopen and expand a previous Ford recall by more than a million vehicles for unexpected downshifting. The initial 2016 recall affected more than 153,000 Ford F-150, Ford expedition, Lincoln navigator and Ford mustang vehicles from the 2011-12 model years. A second recall would increase that number to an estimated 1,375,577 vehicles affected, and expand into the 2013 model year. ".
Unexpected transmission downshifts to 1st gear occurring. My 2013 Ford F-150 v6 automatic transmission is jumping, gets stuck in the first gear. Have to put the vehicle in park and then sometimes shut it off and turn it back on. It also sticks in fifth gear from a dead stop.
Eratic downshifting, transmission sometime would shift to a low gear while at highway speeds, causing tires to lock up. Vehicle also would get stuck in high gear making acceleration from a stop in an active roadway impossible as car would not move.
My 2013 Ford F-150 fx4 3. 5l v6 automatic transmission is jumping, gets stuck in the first gear or sometimes 5th gear. Have to put the vehicle in park and then sometimes shut it off and turn it back on. Driving at 30 miles an hour at times it would jump and buck hard. Took it to the dealer. They had it for about a week and were unable to duplicate the problem. This issue is very irritating and it feels very dangerous to me. Trying to pull out into traffic and then the transmission starts to jump around or is stuck in 5th and you cant get moving is dangerous. The dealer would not offer a repair because they could not duplicate the problem while they had it. But of course it happened on the way home after I picked it up. It is random, but happens every few days.
While traveling at 50-60mph the speedometer drops to 0 and the transmission slams down to first gear and then shoots right back up to sixth gear. It happened on several occasions while driving on the freeway and state highways. On one occasion the speedometer stayed at zero even though I was still traveling at 45-50 mph and the transmission was stuck in 5th gear. Even when I pulled over and put the car into park it was still telling me it was in 5th gear. This condition is very scary especially when traveling at a fairly high rate of speed. I can't imagine what might have happened if I was towing my boat when this sudden down shift occurred. My two youngest children were in the vehicle with me on the most recent occurrence, which made the situation more nerve racking. My dealer diagnosed it as a faulty output speed sensor on the transmission lead frame. I know there is a recall for Ford f150's 2011 and 2012 model years with this same exact issue. I think this recall needs to be expanded to 2013 models as the same thing is still occurring in this model year. I have a video of two occurrences if you would want me to submit it but it looks like I can only upload pictures.
Transmission malfunction, will not engage when vehicle is stopped. Seems like it is stuck in 5th gear. Odo reads ------, airbag and seat belt light comes on. Speedometer goes to zero. When I turn engine off and back on, it operates normal for a few miles. Was almost t-boned by semi this morning because the transmission would not engage when I pulled into intersection.
Without warning my rear wheels & drivetrain locked up while driving. My vehicle suddenly lost control and I had to drive into the grassy shoulder at around 35 mph to avoid being in traffic. As the problem was occuring, the speedometer went to 0 mph and the airbag light illuminated. The vehicle mileage in the cluster showed all dashes. The transmission felt like it was disconnected from the engine, and transmission was stuck in 5th gear at low vehicle speeds. I cycled the ignition, and truck drove normally after that. This is an intermittent problem and very dangerous to drive with as vehicle will lose power and transmission can shift to 1st gear at high vehicle speeds. My vehicle has the 6r80 faulty transmission with the same type of 6r80 molded lead frame defect problem reported in previous f150 model years. Upon contacting dealership they seemed like they never heard of the issue before. Ford should issue a recall for all vehicles with p0722 output shaft speed sensor diagnostic trouble codes. A simple electrical issue on a $100 part should not cause this type of dangerous reaction. See Ford TSB 13-4-9 and 13-2-3 and recall #16v248000 that should apply to all 2013 F-150's too.
Faulty lead frame in transmission causing abrupt down shifts from 6th to 1st at high speeds as well as getting stuck in any one particular gear for prolonged periods of time at all travel speeds. I have video footage of the transmission stuck in 5th gear at 0 mph. Repair bills totaling $552. 95 attached. Note mileage is 65289.
Transmission randomly shifts into 3rd gear and stays stuck in 3rd. No power and it is difficult to get out of the way of traffic. This has happen both at a stop light and on the highway.
On this vehicle, I rarely use 4wd, except in winter conditions. I could not get the vehicle out of 4wd low back into 4x2, even while the foot was on the brake and in neutral. I attempted to drive over a small pile of shoveled snow at the end of my driveway entering a city street and I shifted it into 4wd low. The vehicle was in neutral and the brake was applied. It made a horrible grinding and then a "thud" from the powertrain and lurched forward. After I was out of the driveway I decided to take it out of 4wd low, so I stopped, and with the brake applied, I shifted to neutral and then selected 4wd high. The vehicle advised to pull forward so I shifted to drive and nothing happened. The vehicle would not move and had a very high rpm. And the speedometer started climbing. I then shifted back to neutral and then tried reverse. Same result, I got the same, no movement high rpm and then all of a sudden the gears started to grind horribly! I immediately shifted back to neutral. I even attempted to shift to 4x2, but still would not move. It seemed as it was stuck in between gears. I then had to get out of the vehicle while in neutral and pushed the vehicle forward, as this is what the onboard system was saying. It wanted you to pull forward, but nothing was engaged to let you pull forward. No other option than to push. After a few tries of this pushing and shifting method, it finally decided to catch and it slammed back into 4wd high, but it also sounded like the front end of the truck was being ripped apart at that point. It was in gear for me and moving again though, and I was able to shift it back into 4x2 immediately.
