Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While driving in first gear, the vehicle failed to change gears and the wrench warning indicator illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally. On several occasions, the failure occurred. The contact called kevin powell's foothill Ford (located at 3220 cook school rd, pilot mountain, nc 27041, (336) 368-2239) and was informed that the part was not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Feb 19, 2019 started experiencing drive train problems. While driving my truck it would suddenly downshift into first gear and will not change gears, also from a stand still the vehicle will not change gears from a stop and start. On Feb 21, 2019 I took my vehicle to precision Ford dealership of lillington, nc where a TSB 13-6-8, (obdii data code p070) open recall 19s07 was diagnosed. They were aware of the open recall but could not repair it until approved by the Ford company. I contacted the Ford company on Mar 8, 2019. They will not have the software available until the second quarter of this year to make the necessary repairs, and they will not reimburse me if I pay to have my vehicle repaired. I feel this decision is unprofessional of the Ford company and a total inconvenience for me to be without transportation with no indication or timeframe of when I can get my vehicle repaired. At this rate my vehicle will be inoperative for no less than 2 - 3 months which I feel is no fault of mine but a lack of expediency on behalf of the Ford company.
Vehicle was stopped in the left turn lane. When the green arrow appeared, pressure was applied to the accelerator. The vehicle began to move at a rate that was not normal for what the tachometer was reading. The vehicle then jolted suddenly as if the 1st gear had engaged. This was shortly followed by the vehicle losing road speed. It seemed that 5th gear had been engaged. The seatbelt caution and wrench symbol came on. The speedometer dropped to 0. I was able to move the vehicle out of traffic lanes, but it was slow because the transmission was not in first gear. Putting the vehicle into neutral and back to drive did not fix the problem. Once stopped, I shutdown the vehicle and waited 30 seconds before restarting the vehicle. This seemed to fix the issue. The check engine light will not go on for this failure. I have contacted Ford dealerships who are unable to diagnose the issue unless there is an associated check engine light and code that can be retrieved from the onboard computer. This is a safety issue because a powertrain failure while in traffic can lead to a vehicle being unable to clear an intersection if there's oncoming cross traffic. I request that NHTSA investigate f150 model year 2013 for this issue with the erratic shifting in the automatic transmission at low speeds.
While traveling in 4th gear, the vehicle suddenly went into 1st gear. It would not go out of 1st gear until I shut it off and restarted. Happened again before I got it home. Dealer replaced the lead frame harness, cost $1025. 00. This could have resulted in a serious accident. Vehicle had 60844 miles on odometer.
Transmission downshifts without notice from 6th gear to 1st gear while traveling at high speeds resulting in rear tires locking up. Periodically shifts from park directly to 5th gear and gear selection cannot be overridden by the driver unless the vehicle is turned off and restarted.
I was driving in traffic at approximately 45 mph when my truck suddenly surged as if I had hit something and a faint squeal of the rear tires. Then as sudden at it happened the truck began to roll smoothly again. A wrench appeared on the dash screen with a statement that said "maintenance required". The airbag indication illuminated. Once the wrench symbol and "maintenance required" statement disappeared the regular screen came back that showed the mileage and the amount of miles until empty, except the numbers were all dashes. Also the speedometer was showing that I was going 0 mph when I was clearly moving around 45 mph. I tried to accelerate and the vehicle would not accelerate no matter how much throttle I gave it. I noticed the truck was stuck in 5th gear. I tried to manually shift the gears and when I pressed the + and - buttons on the gear shifter the number "5" on the dash would flash and not change gears. I could not seem to get the truck over 2300 rpm. I took a photo of the display showing the dashes and 0 mph.
