Cold start rattle lasting a second or more. Ford dealer diagnosed it as being bad cam phaser (TSB 23-2143). This is a very common issue with 3. 5l engines from 2017-2020 - well documented on forums and youtube (even by Ford technicians). I contacted Ford to see if they would assist in covering cost (my vehicle was a previous fleet vehicle and sold certified used in Dec 2020 with warranty running out in Dec 2025). Ford had several csp's related to these engine and model years (21b10 and 21n03). Ford says my vehicle is not affected by these two csps and that is why coverage is denied. Dealer did determine my vehicle qualified under both csps based on information from the csp's (make, model, build plant). My vehicle is affected by known bad parts, Ford redesigned vct. Per Ford technicians, the new vct design is the only long term fix (pcm reflash and replacing with original vct parts are not). How can a TSB (23-2143) cover my vehicle when the previous csp did not - for the same issue. Ford is refusing to assist customers cover cost to replace of known poorly designed parts (why would they redesign if they didn't know)? Ford does not include my vehicle in the csps though it matches criteria - Ford possibly drastically understated the number of vehicles affected by these csp's. Dealer says mine is affected by this but frod doesn't include my vehicle. This should be a full recall (not time limited under csps) as it can cause the vehicle to not start when auto stop/start is enabled (middle of 5 lane highway in atlanta metro area rush hour). Failure of cam phasers can force vehicle into limp mode reducing ability to operate vehicle . Ford is well aware the parts are faulty and an integral part of the engine, why would they redesign if they were not faulty?.
I was getting on the highway in 7th gear and the truck shifted to 1st gear. The rear end locked up and my vehicle skidded out of control. Luckily there was no one around and I did not contact another vehicle or a road barrier.
Transmission shifts eradicate, jumps into gear (hard) motor rpm raises high as transmission actually jumping , not smooth shifting into gear .
My 2019 Ford F-150 was subject to safety recall 21b10. In June 2021 the dealer documented the cam phaser issue but could not perform the repair. I received the recall notice in October 2021 and step one of the recall was completed in December 2021. In June 2023, still within mileage coverage and under warranty, I returned with the same complaint. The dealer acknowledged the problem and ordered parts explaining that they would take a very long time to come. I was never contacted again. In April 2026 my vehicle has sustained damage to the timing chain, guides, solenoids, cam phasers, and tensioners — all components directly related to the unrepaired recall defect. Ford has offered only partial goodwill coverage, leaving me with a $1,600 balance for damage caused by an incomplete federally-mandated recall repair.
Grinding noise on startup. Goes away after warmup. Ford dealer just reported that I need a $6,500 engine repair. I’ve owned this truck since brand new in 2019. Always have done routine maintenance. This clearly is a quality issue.
My transmission jumps or skips or sometimes simply doesn't engage between gears, resulting in upshifting for a slow performance when I need to cross a busy intersection, or staying in low gear and revving up when trying to get on the highway. Some days it works okay, some days it doesn't; but rarely does it work right.
At 68000 miles I noticed the engine is burning through oil at a rapid pace. A quart of oil a week is bad. If this happens to someone who doesn't keep up with their vehicle, and check it regularly it could be a devastating outcome. It's time Ford fixes this issue.
It seems when the truck has been driven more than an a half hour to an hour and you shut the truck off the truck won't start back up. I believe the starter gets what they call heat soaked, then you have to wait until the truck cools down then I will start normal.
Cam phasers. Ford refuses to repair cam phasers despite having a recall previously and never fixed by previous owner. Ford quoted the repair at $8k. Previously recall stated safety concerns over faulty manufacturing of cam phasers, having plastic parts and exposed parts rather than metal and enclosed parts like in they install during the repair. While I understand the repair was a voluntary recall, it's still a safety concern as engine has rough idle, rough shift changes, sometimes will jolt forward while idling and possible engine shut off due to damage to camshaft caused by the failing cam phasers. This should be an NHTSA ordered recall.
I own a 2019 Ford F-150 equipped with the 3. 5l ecoboost engine. The vehicle has developed a loud rattling noise during startup along with an illuminated check engine light. The vehicle was diagnosed by family Ford of enfield as having a failure in the timing system, including cam phasers, timing chain, tensioners, and guides. The estimated repair cost is approximately $5,000. This issue appears to be a widespread and well-documented problem affecting 2017–2020 Ford F-150 vehicles with the 3. 5l ecoboost engine. The failure of cam phasers and timing components can lead to improper engine timing, rough operation, and potential engine damage. I am concerned that this condition could worsen over time and potentially lead to engine failure while driving, creating a safety risk. Despite this being a known issue, no recall or adequate assistance has been provided. I am submitting this complaint so that this recurring problem can be investigated further for potential safety implications and manufacturer responsibility.
My f 150 2. 7 2019 has a front engine noise when cold start up. It will go away when in a couple minutes!!! is there a problem w/ this engine? I just wanted to go on record about this problem!!!.
1) vehicle transmission erratic shifting ,skips gear 2 and 4 a lot and sometimes from stop to 33 mph it seems to go into neutral then bang back into gear. Grand kids in back gets knocked around hard enough to lose food/drinks. It dose to back but now the truck is less than 10mph. 2) on start up something in the engine jingle and gaggle sound for 1-3 seconds. . This happens when truck has been sitting for long period.
While driving on the highway on 02/20/2026 at approximately 152,000 miles, my 2019 Ford F-150 3. 0l power stroke diesel caught fire and was completely destroyed. The day before the fire (02/19/2026), the Fordpass app logged an electrical system error that self-cleared the same day. Believing the issue resolved itself, I continued normal operation. The following day the vehicle caught fire on the highway and was a total loss. Ford's own telematics system captured the fault code prior to the fire. I am filing this complaint to formally document this incident and believe this represents a product defect.
My 2019 Ford F-150 (2. 7l ecoboost) is subject to emission recall 24e12, which addresses a defective pcm calibration that Ford acknowledges "could, over time, reduce the effectiveness of the emissions control system and the monitoring accuracy of the catalytic converter's efficiency. " component: catalytic converter system and powertrain control module (pcm). Vehicle is available for inspection at rich Ford in albuquerque, nm, where it has been serviced for this issue. Timeline: prior to the 24e12 recall repair, my truck had intermittent p0420/p0430 codes (catalyst efficiency below threshold). The check engine light would illuminate and then clear on its own. I brought the vehicle to rich Ford for the 24e12 pcm reprogram. Within approximately one month of the recall repair, the same catalytic converter codes returned, except now the condition is constant and no longer clears. This timeline is documented in my Fordpass app and the dealer's service records. Safety risk: the constant check engine light prevents the vehicle from passing bernalillo county emissions testing, which is required for registration in albuquerque, nm. I am unable to legally register my vehicle due to a condition caused by a manufacturer-acknowledged defect. Dealer confirmation: rich Ford diagnosed the recurring p0420/p0430 codes. They initially attempted to charge me $300+ for extended diagnostics. They are now consulting with Ford about whether a catalytic converter replacement will be covered under the recall. Prior symptoms: the intermittent check engine light with p0420/p0430 codes existed before the recall repair but was not constant. The recall repair worsened the condition from intermittent to persistent. Pattern: Ford's recall documentation states the mil "may illuminate even though a catalytic converter repair may not be necessary," yet numerous owners report being quoted $1,900-$2,100+ for cat replacement at their own expense after the 24e12 reprogram. Ford corporate confirmed the $300.
I have had my 2019 Ford F-150 for 5 years now and always noticed that it was consuming oil. After further investigation I discovered that Ford put out TSB 19-2365 (and 19-2338) which I never received pertaining to oil consumption. I talked to Ford and they said they would inspect for a mere $199. 00 dollars for a problem they new was a problem for my 5. 0 liter coyote engine. Since the problem began I now have a faulty catalytic converter and 02 sensors because of this defect. I also have to purchase a catch can to prevent oil getting through to the catalytic converter.
Ford has had a known problem with their cam phaser in 2017-2020 truck and SUV's. My truck got the recall 21b10 accomplished in 2021 and just a couple years later requires $5600 to fix a failed camshaft gear/sprocket. Ford refuses to help pay for the required repair.
At 70k miles cam phaser is starting to go bad and Ford will not honor prior recall or TSB tn2103 and recall 21b10. Ford has issues a 40% repair coverage and does acknowledge the issue but does not think it's their fault now. Would like Ford to issue a full recall on this issue.
Transmission issue. Sudden down shift and spike in rpms while driving. Hard shift during acceleration.
2019 F-150 2. 7l ecoboost, 10-speed. Intermittent unintended acceleration: while coasting or braking at low speed (10–25 mph) the engine suddenly revs to 3–4k rpm with a strong lurch forward against the brakes. Requires hard braking and shifting to neutral to stop. Happens year-round, warm or cold, no warning lights. This is a known issue covered by TSB 19-2135 and ssm 49240 this problem started in 2020 at about 10k mileage. Has occurred about 10 times since with about 82k mileage now. The service dealer at acton Ford tried to reproduce the problem a couple years ago by driving it, but acceleration problem didn’t happen. The problem occurred today, Dec 6, 2025 while braking for a stop light when I had to stomp on the brakes and shifted into park. This could be dangerous if I pulled through the red light into cross-traffic.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the auto start/stop feature was inoperable. The contact stated that the vehicle was shaking, and while idling, the vehicle started jerking abnormally. The contact stated that the transmission was slow to shift. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the message cylinder #6 misfire was displayed, but had turned off. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25e070000 (power train). The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and confirmed the remedy was not yet available, and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.
I was just stopped at a red light and took foot off pedal and the vehicle didn't restart. The instrument cluster showed a warning saying "auto startstop shift to p then restart". This has happened 4-5 times in the past month.
Cam phaser rattle, well known issue in 2017-2020 F-150s. Started around November 8, 2025, at cold start. Maybe 78,000 miles. Spoke to repair shop who id'd the issue and suggested a NHTSA case.
I took my truck in to be repaired for an incompetent tow truck driver wrapping a chain around the pinion yoke to put my truck on a flatbed because the alternator failed. Once the pinion seal repair was completed, the repair shop told me there were codes popping up on how it was running. The codes were related to the timing and were likely the cam phasers needing to be replaced with the timing. It turns out that the engine was needing to be replaced because there were grooves in the cam journals from metal shavings that were caused after the cam phaser lock out pin broke. The engine was on backorder from Ford and after a little over 3 months, I got a new engine for a mere $12,314. This is for a used truck that I purchased and have only owned for just going on 2 years. I called Ford corporate office to see if I could get help paying for the repairs but they told me that I had to take it directly to a Ford dealership. The Ford dealerships nearby are 3 or more months out, just to take a look at your vehicle and diagnose it. I couldn't wait that long, so I went to a local mechanic shop that I trust. It was hard enough having to wait 3 months for my engine to be replaced, let alone waiting 3 months for Ford to diagnose it and then however long for them to actually replace it.
You can smell something getting hot the gauges jump everywhere and the 12 volt outlet constantly flashes red or orange. The screen goes out for long periods of time and the transmission shifts down so hard and then misses gears shifting up causing the person driving to lose momentum. I can not believe this truck has not been recalled yet. It’s been at the dealers shop 20 times for electrical issues. They knew it was a lemon and still sold it to us. I hope y’all do the right thing before someone gets killed.
During driving, the transmission began hesitating when shifting from 4th to 5th gear. Then in stop and go traffic, it would shift hard from 1st gear to the point my head would slam into the headrest. I would then get a notice on the dashboard of a power train failure. Once I turned the vehicle off, the notice would disappear and the vehicle would begin to shift normally for a while, before the hard shifting would continue. On the freeway, sometimes when the vehicle tried to down shift, it would hesitate and I was concerned I would be rear ended as it would not speed up. I brought the truck into 2 different Ford dealerships and they both said it needed a new transmissison. There is 123,00 miles on this 2019 Ford f150. I had also related to the dealerships that there was a rattle when starting the vehicle and they said it is due to the cam shifters or more and a complete engine tear down was recommended. At the same time, the electronic screen would sometimes freeze, turn off when driving or not turn on initally. The dealerships said this needed to be replaced. The estimates for repair were from $16,461 to $13,686.
Timing chain and gears need to be replaced. Check engine light came on. This should not be happening to a newer vehicle with 100,000 miles on it. I looked up other complaints and multiple people have filed complaints about the timing chain going out on their vehicle.
Truck is stalling at low speeds or idle when in drive or reverse causing me to get stranded in turns or at stop lights. No check engine lights have come on and the dealership said to wait but it’s happening constantly. Occasionally the auto start stop will say it’s failed but the stalling occurs when it’s enabled and disabled.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the intake valve covers and the cylinder #5 intake camshaft lobe were damaged. Additionally, the front camshaft and cylinder head had pitted into each other, showing signs of oil starvation. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 45-50 mph on a separate occasion, the vehicle was stopped at a red traffic light. The vehicle failed to accelerate as intended upon depressing the accelerator pedal and stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the residence. The vehicle remained at the residence unrepaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 126,273.
Truck is rough idles and stalls when idling and moving at low speeds. It happens at stop lights or low speed turns leaving me stranded in intersections no check engine lights have shown up but a auto start stop message appears on the dash.
My f150 constantly needs oil and seems to lag when the oil tank is low. 163000km on the engine. I've heard other 2019 f150 drivers have the same problem. It also has a hard shift after sitting for the night, it will drop gears while going uphill which seems to be from third gear to fourth but instead drops to 3rd again creating a clunk noise. It hasn't caused an accident or anything yet but from my last truck this thing definitely was not built the way it should have been. I think Ford needs to have a serious look at these trucks before someone gets hurt.
The transmission failed in October 2023 on my way home from work. Brought it to a transmission place and had another one put in. Cost $6k - the truck is now at another mechanic as it broke down again while driving home from work - transmission and engine this time. Mechanic says needs new transmission and timing chain kit - cost $10k this is a truck that has 100k miles on it and only 6 years old. This will be the 3rd transmission. It is a safety risk as I have no control when the transmission gives out whether its on a highway or one of these country back roads.
I am made a formal demand for reimbursement of repair costs I incurred due to a known and recalled defect in my 2019 Ford F-150 3. 5l ecoboost (VIN: [xxx] ). Ford issued an official safety recall for defective cam phasers on this vehicle, classified under NHTSA campaign numbers 21b10, 21n03, and 21n08. These recalls specifically addressed the cam phaser rattle and required pcm reprogramming to adjust cam phaser control strategy. Where the reprogramming failed to resolve the defect, Ford authorized full cam phaser replacement under the recall. Despite my vehicle falling squarely within the scope of these campaigns, I was forced to pay $6,908. 18 out-of-pocket to have the cam phasers replaced in order to restore safe and proper operation. The defect presented a significant safety concern, and the expense was directly attributable to Ford’s failure to address this issue. I am enclosing the following documentation as evidence: •repair invoice showing the total paid ($6,908. 18) •proof of payment (credit card receipt / cancelled check) •vehicle registration verifying ownership •invoice from enterprise rental ($1,522. 69) •proof of payment (credit card receipt) under the magnuson-moss warranty act, state consumer protection laws, and Ford’s own recall obligations, I am entitled to reimbursement for repairs covered by a safety recall. Accordingly, I demand full reimbursement of $6,908. 18 and rental car, $1,522. 69 within thirty (30) days of receipt of this letter. I have reached out to Ford motor company on September 26, 2025 and received no response. Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Vct / cam phasers need replaced on all 3. 5 ecoboost engines from 2017-2020. The failure of cam phasers can destroy the engine and if it happens on the road it can be deadly. At a minimum, replacing these cam phasers (due to poorly designed parts) is extremely expensive (between $5,000 to $10,000) and people put off this repair because it is cost prohibitive which will lead to engine failure, potentially at high speeds. My dealer (phil long Ford of denver) provided me an estimate of $5,000 to fix my cam phasers. Again, this is on every 2017-2020 Ford ecoboost 3. 5 engine.
The vct phaser are leaking oil causing the engine to knock when cold starting. There already was a recall but my vehicle wasn't on the list but it has the same defect as those in the recall.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. The ticking sound was intermittent. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with excessive oil consumption, which was possibly caused by the intake manifold vacuum during some deceleration fuel shut off (dfso). The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact stated that three to four quarts of oil needed to be added between oil changes. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to TSB: 19-2338. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the nhsta hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 122,944.
