Truck is rough idles and stalls when idling and moving at low speeds. It happens at stop lights or low speed turns leaving me stranded in intersections no check engine lights have shown up but a auto start stop message appears on the dash.
My f150 constantly needs oil and seems to lag when the oil tank is low. 163000km on the engine. I've heard other 2019 f150 drivers have the same problem. It also has a hard shift after sitting for the night, it will drop gears while going uphill which seems to be from third gear to fourth but instead drops to 3rd again creating a clunk noise. It hasn't caused an accident or anything yet but from my last truck this thing definitely was not built the way it should have been. I think Ford needs to have a serious look at these trucks before someone gets hurt.
The transmission failed in October 2023 on my way home from work. Brought it to a transmission place and had another one put in. Cost $6k - the truck is now at another mechanic as it broke down again while driving home from work - transmission and engine this time. Mechanic says needs new transmission and timing chain kit - cost $10k this is a truck that has 100k miles on it and only 6 years old. This will be the 3rd transmission. It is a safety risk as I have no control when the transmission gives out whether its on a highway or one of these country back roads.
I am made a formal demand for reimbursement of repair costs I incurred due to a known and recalled defect in my 2019 Ford F-150 3. 5l ecoboost (VIN: [xxx] ). Ford issued an official safety recall for defective cam phasers on this vehicle, classified under NHTSA campaign numbers 21b10, 21n03, and 21n08. These recalls specifically addressed the cam phaser rattle and required pcm reprogramming to adjust cam phaser control strategy. Where the reprogramming failed to resolve the defect, Ford authorized full cam phaser replacement under the recall. Despite my vehicle falling squarely within the scope of these campaigns, I was forced to pay $6,908. 18 out-of-pocket to have the cam phasers replaced in order to restore safe and proper operation. The defect presented a significant safety concern, and the expense was directly attributable to Ford’s failure to address this issue. I am enclosing the following documentation as evidence: •repair invoice showing the total paid ($6,908. 18) •proof of payment (credit card receipt / cancelled check) •vehicle registration verifying ownership •invoice from enterprise rental ($1,522. 69) •proof of payment (credit card receipt) under the magnuson-moss warranty act, state consumer protection laws, and Ford’s own recall obligations, I am entitled to reimbursement for repairs covered by a safety recall. Accordingly, I demand full reimbursement of $6,908. 18 and rental car, $1,522. 69 within thirty (30) days of receipt of this letter. I have reached out to Ford motor company on September 26, 2025 and received no response. Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Vct / cam phasers need replaced on all 3. 5 ecoboost engines from 2017-2020. The failure of cam phasers can destroy the engine and if it happens on the road it can be deadly. At a minimum, replacing these cam phasers (due to poorly designed parts) is extremely expensive (between $5,000 to $10,000) and people put off this repair because it is cost prohibitive which will lead to engine failure, potentially at high speeds. My dealer (phil long Ford of denver) provided me an estimate of $5,000 to fix my cam phasers. Again, this is on every 2017-2020 Ford ecoboost 3. 5 engine.
The vct phaser are leaking oil causing the engine to knock when cold starting. There already was a recall but my vehicle wasn't on the list but it has the same defect as those in the recall.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. The ticking sound was intermittent. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with excessive oil consumption, which was possibly caused by the intake manifold vacuum during some deceleration fuel shut off (dfso). The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact stated that three to four quarts of oil needed to be added between oil changes. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to TSB: 19-2338. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the nhsta hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 122,944.
The vct had begun to fail in my 2019 f150 platinum truck. It rattled on every cold start. There was a recall for my model and year truck for the vct issue, but for reasons I don't know, my truck was not apart of that recall. Back when the recall was issued my truck should have qualified, but I was never notified of any issue. I am the only owner of this truck and I have never changed my address while I have owned this truck. Customer satisfaction program 21n03 the repair has been completed and cost $5,200.
Cam phasers failed, car becomes inoperable. This was a known issue that was brought in under warranty and was not fixed. Car had to be brought in for major repairs because it was not addressed under warranty.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle in colder temperatures, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from under the hood. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer for a routine engine oil change, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
I have a 2019 Ford f150 ecoboost 3. 5l engine. I'm a very low mileage driver and just turned over 55,000 miles when I began having cold startup knocking, which is well known issue for Ford (TSB 21-2119). This is a faulty part on this vehicle that if not repaired properly can cause catastrophic engine damage and dangerous on-road situations. The repair is upwards of 6,000 dollars and Ford customer service is refusing to take care of the issue. Additionally, Ford never provided me with notification of this ongoing issue and in their filing with the NHTSA (customer satisfaction program 21n03), they stated they would notify customers by March 15, 2021.
I drive a 2019 Ford F-150 with the 3. 5l engine and 10 speed transmission. I have received a warning for low fuel pressure, trouble starting, and the truck has cut off once after turning over. It never fails to crank, however, it may take 5 or so seconds of cranking to get it to start. I have had the check engine light come on one time over the last couple of months of the issues starting; the code it showed was a p00c6. I have not brought the vehicle in for service as it just started a couple months ago when it got hot outside and there was a recent recall that did not include this VIN but matches the issue exactly. The warning states to not drive the vehicle and to get it towed if fuel is not low. The recall states there is not a current fix for the issue and I need my vehicle. This is a daily problem, mostly after the vehicle sits for a couple of hours. I am also having an issue with the cam phaser rattle upon startup and rattling while driving. I have noticed some power reduction and it has progressively gotten worse over time. I am at 135,000 miles currently and have experienced this issue for the last 50,000 miles or so.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 94,584.
Failure of the timing chain started as a rattle on a cold start. I contacted the dealership, and they indicated that all 2019 ecoboosts need to have cam phasers and timing chain replaced, or they can cause major engine failure.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the contact noticed an abnormal rattling sound. The contact stated that the Ford mobile app indicated an engine misfire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The vehicle was scheduled for diagnostic testing within the next several days. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that during startup a loud rattling noise was present coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the cam phasers were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Also, while idling the vehicle had experienced shuttering and vibrations. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the spark plugs but the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was notified of the failures but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 105,000.
Cam phaser failure and engine timing off. Caused random shut off of engine and loss of power.
My 2019 f150 has issues with both the cam phasers and the transmission. Every time I turn on my truck I get the Ford “cold start rattle” because defective parts from the factory that Ford has known were defective and later fixed but for some reason my truck was not in the recall. My truck came off the same assembly line and time period of previous csp or recall programs but my VIN was never included. My truck also has 60,000 miles and the 10 speed transmission clunks all the time. I’m not sure if it’s missing shifts or what is breaking but everyone with a f150 around this year knows they are common to have transmission issues. Sometimes my truck doesn’t find the proper gear getting started and will rev high and barely move until it finally gets shift right and gets moving. These 2019 f150 issues are far too common I see them all across the blogs and internet and know a few other owners who have similar issues.

At 101,000 miles, the engine lost power, check engine light came on, and service transmission light came on. This happened while pulling a trailer up a mountain, slowing the truck rapidly, and becoming a hazard to surrounding interstate traffic. The dealer diagnosed the problem as the timing chain, and replaced it and all related components at a cost of $4500. They tell me that this is a problem with that year truck and engine.
About a month ago my truck started shifting hard between 3rd and 4th gear. My truck has been in the shop almost 1month water solutions is giving me a run around. They drove the truck and confirmed it’s shifting hard. Took the transmission pan out and saw the metal shavings. Now they want me to take it to another shop for a cdf air drum test. Have any other f150 having this issue?I need help on what to do.
Cam phasers - this is a known issue on the 3. 5l ecoboost motors, yet Ford will not stand behind their product. They have paid for some people to have it repaired, and not others. This is about a $4,000 fix at the dealership, again for an issue they knew about years ago. They tried to claim changing the timing with the ecm module would stop it from happening, but as I discovered this weekend it didn't my vehicles ecm was swapped in 2021 and here I am a few years later with the same issue. Ford needs to be called out as they knowingly pushed out subpar engine products to make more money.
Had diagnostic done on truck to find out cam phasers need replacement. There was a recall on this issue but was never informed of. Now I’m looking at a $3528. 40 repair which I was informed that this can be a regular repair once issue occurs. Reached out to Ford corporation and was informed they couldn’t help us in any way.

The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the failure listed in the extended warranty coverage. The failure mileage was 120,300.
Rough idling result in cam phaser and timing belt replacement. While driving the vehicle would accelerate and decelerate on its own making it unsafe to drive. Dealer quoted me $6,095 to replace camp phasers (part #hl2z-6c590-a).
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there was loud clanking sound coming from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,270.
Had oil change 7 times in one year and each time they indicate at the place I get oil changed that it is a quart or more low before 3,000 miles of usage after oil change. My car is suppose to take unleaded gas or higher and it knocks if I use unloaded. Now my catalytic converter is going out and it is not covered under warranty unless it is consequential to other problems. Well there appears to be engine problems that are not being addressed and I have a warranty and have taken it in. But they do not look any deeper into the problem except for computer scan and the warranty people won’t give me any answers on what they will do if there is engine problems.
Cam phasers are bad and making noise. This needs to be a recall item from Ford.

Cam phasers!!!! I have a 2019 Ford F-150 with the 3. 5l ecoboost engine which started having cam phaser issues. On cold starts, the engine makes a loud rattling noise for several seconds, and during idle a ticking noise is heard as well. At times the engine runs roughly and loses power briefly when I’m driving it. I’m very concerned because it happened to me while merging into a highway the truck cut power down and I almost caused an accident for not getting up to speed properly, additionally this could lead to the car shutting off on me, or other dangerous situations on the road, other than the long wear and tear that these bad cam phasers have on the engine. I’ve learned that this issue is known to Ford and has been happening for many years, and was addressed for other owners through customer satisfaction programs like the 21n03 and its various supplements, to my knowledge the last one being held in 2022, but my truck is not covered at this time even though it’s a 2019 and has under 70,000 miles. I believe this issue should be investigated further as it is a safety risk to drivers, passengers, and all other vehicles on the road, and Ford should be held accountable, as this issue has been seen around their 3. 5 ecoboost engines and has yet to be fixed. It seems like it’s an ongoing profitable business for them to keep customers paying out of pocket for this $4,000+ job knowing that it’s an issue that many owners have, which is beyond ridiculous on their end. If it’s possible for you guys to take a look at any of their social media platforms, most of the comments on their posts, even if they have nothing to do with this engine, are complaints about not having a recall for cam phasers on the 3. 5 ecoboost engine. Ford needs to be held accountable for this issue and give more importance to the safety of their customers instead of their parts/service profits!!!!!!.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 15 mph and attempting to complete a turn, the vehicle briefly lost motive power but continued running. The contact stated that shortly afterwards, the vehicle returned to normal functionality. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that a software update was required. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who again diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer also diagnosed a failure with the cam phasers. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to customer satisfaction program: 21n03. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 35,000.
