37 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/19/2010

No significant events lead up to. . . . 3 out of 4 windows on my 2004 Ford f150 fx4 had to be replaced because out of the blue they come crashing down. I have spent about 700 dollars so far on this defect and have to go in tomorrow to get my passenger side window fixed which will put me over 1000. Ford needs to recall these window regulators and I should get every penny I have spent on these pathetic devices back. Come on Ford, really? I feel like I and everybody else in this same situation have been taken advantage of for Ford to make an extra buck. Who is going to be the one to raise the [xxx] flagged and take Ford to the bank on this one. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

38 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/15/2010

I have lost 4 window regulators over the space of 2 years. I have replaced the drivers front , pass front twice pass rear once. I currently have a broom handle holding up drivers rear. This has gotten very old and tiresome. I worked for Ford dealerships for 27 years and I am very disappointed with the apparent disregard of quality is job 1.

39 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/09/2010

While I was driving the truck on local roads, the passenger side electrically controlled window which was fully up suddenly slowly receded down into the door of the truck and now cannot be raised back up. The window is not broken, and the noise when I press the window control seems to indicate that the motor is still working properly. I have called several repair shops (and the dealer), and the conclusion so far (hearing the description but without inspecting the vehicle) is that the window regulator needs to be replaced.

40 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/14/2010

While driving on the freeway my passenger side window unexpectedly fell through the door. When I pressed the button to open the window a tad the regulator broke and the window began to fall. A week later the second back passenger window came crashing down also. Thankfully it was while I was at the store and the car was stationary. I had to fix this out of pocket last week for about 700. 00 for both windows, the repair guy at Ford said this wasn't covered or issued as a recall. Now fastforward to yesterday, my side driver window comes falling down and I had to use a doorstop to hold it up. I feel this is a widespread issue that Ford has not come to terms with. This should have been a recall issued years ago. Checking the internet there a numerous sites where angry customers of Ford are experiencing this problem way to frequently. (ex. . Read more...

41 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

The driver's side window regulator on my 2006 Ford f150 has broken three times, I was able to get two replaced under warranty, but the third time happened this last month, I am replacing it today. I believe from my experience, and from thousands of forum entries citing the same thing, that Ford should recall this part. This part is going to cost me approximately $400. 00 to repair.

42 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

Incident #1 intermittent electrical contacts in engine bay affecting charging system, emissions, and drive systems. Ford dealer diagnosed as "bad alternator" and "bad wiring harness". After I brought it back without having repairs done, I cleaned and lubed all connectors. All problems went away. I ended up having to buy a new battery due to damage done by the faulty connections. The problems had been intermittent and progressively got worse before I cleaned and lubed all connectors, this problem cost me a battery, and almost caused me to wreck as the battery died at night on the highway. With no battery and no alternator, the vehicle stalled, lighting died, etc. Incident #2 leaking timing cover gasket and lower intake gaskets. At this moment the vehicle has 127k appx miles on it, and it is currently sitting as I will not drive it until it is repaired, all miles put on vehicle have been "light" miles (no heavy towing, no overloading of vehicle, no excessive speed, etc). Ford issued a bulletin stating that there was a problem with gaskets up until roughly 1/16/98. They then issued a customer satisfaction remedy that did not cover the full gasket set or all affected engine model years. According to the bulletin, my engine (mfg date prior to 9/97) is affected, according to their customer satisfaction remedy it is not eligible. In my book, this is something that needs to be the basis of a recall. Engines have died with as little as 50k miles on them, I have never had a vehicle that I was honestly scared to drive until now. I will most likely be performing my own repairs on this vehicle due to Ford's incompetence.

43 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/09/2009

Driver side window fell into door while driving due to power window regulator failure.

44 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/06/2009

First incident: August, 2009 I was driving down the highway going approximately 65 miles an hour when the back passenger side window started decending without anyone pushing the button. I was then unable to use the window again. My infant son was in the back seat next to the window and it was raining. I took the vehicle to the Ford dealership and had the window regulator replaced. Second incident: January, 2010 once again I was driving and the front passenger side window went down without prompting and never worked again. I am an attorney and was on my way to the courthouse and was forced to leave my car unattended for a short amount of time and obtain continuances on all of my cases that day in order to have my window repaired. I was informed that it was the window regulator and the part needed replaced. Third incident: August, 2011 same scenerio, my husband was driving the vehicle on the highway at approx. 55 mph when his window decended without prompting and we were unable to make the window work again. I had to have the window regulator replaced. Besides the cost of repairs ($350. 00 each window), I believe that this is a safety hazard. I had an infant by the window in the first incident and driving at speed the window could have shattered. Also, all incidents occured while I was driving and proved quite distracting. It could have caused an accident. Last, because I was unable to make the window(s) go back up I had to leave my vehicle unsecured.

45 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/27/2008

Multiple window regulator assembly failures during normal use of the vehicle and even parked in some instances. It happens randomly and causes much stress. If you are driving in the extreme heat, snow or a heavy rain storm you can do nothing about it. If you have passengers especially small children they will have to suffer until you can get to a service station or have the tools on hand to fix it. Once the window falls you are exposed to the elements with no protection from having the window up. The window falls into the door and you cannot get the window back up unless you take the door panel off and manually shove the window up and place something there to hold it. I have had the parts replaced every time and it continues to happen and to multiple people. It has happened to me five times in three years.

48 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/23/2007

Currently own a 2004 Ford f150 fx4. The driver side window suddenly fell off the track while driving and into the door, thankfully it didn't shatter. Took it to the dealership, wasn't covered under warranty. It was the window regulator. Cost around $500 to fix it. A year later the driver side window fell of track when shutting the door and fell down into it. Don't really have the money to fix it, so we rigged it to stay up, however it falls slowly while driving and we have to keep pushing it up. Now the rear passenger window has fallen down- where our child sits and this is becoming a problem. $1500 to fix 3 windows in 2 years is not acceptable on something that is clearly a defect. Ford claims they are waiting for the NHTSA to require the recall from Ford, until that happens they wont correct the problem. This is a safety issue as well as a consumer issue. Please continue to advise Ford of this defect and urge the recall.

The contact owns a 1999 Ford f150. At 3 am while sleeping the contact woke up to the sound of the anti alarm system going off. Went out and found that the hood melted and the fire was coming out of the front of the vehicle. Called 911. In the meantime the contact's husband tried to put the flames out with an extinguisher. The vehicle burned completely except for the back bumper and the back tires. Then , basically the fire department came and put the fire out. After the fire was put out the contact called the insurance company, and they investigated the fire, and found out that the fire was started due to the alternator. Two days prior to the vehicle catching on fire the contact received manufacturer's recall 05528 concerning cruise control deactivation switch. Never changed the alternator or the wires. 54 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1999 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/23/2003

My family and I were traveling on the interstate when our gauges on our truck began to go from zero to one hundred miles per hour back and forth. Our gas gauge would from full to empty. All gauges on the dash would go crazy. Our battery light had come on a few miles before this occurred. We lost all power and our truck decelerated quickly on the interstate. We found a parts store and put on a new alternator and battery thinking that would do the job. As we continued our trip, the gauges began to do the same thing within ten miles of changing alternator and battery. I would like to know if there is a flaw in 1999 Ford f150's. We checked all fuses and have no idea why this occurred. The truck cannot be driven because it will shut off while driving.
