The truck has been back to Ford many times for draining the battery. If it is parked for 2 to 3 days I would have to jump start it. The dealers could not find the problem and keep replacing the battery. After it was out of warranty paid out of my own pocket to find the problem still could not find. I have a video of the truck in12/11 of the heater/defroster running after the truck was parked for 3 hours with no keys in the truck. On 5/16/2012 the truck was parked in my driveway and caught fire under the dash.

My truck was parked on my driveway, and had not been driven in about 2wks. I didn't even think that the battery had a charge. My [kathy] wife and a salesman and I just happened to be standing a few feet away having a conversation, when we smelled wires burning. I quickly raised the hood of the truck to see the plug wires connected to the brake master cylcender smoking. At that time I of course disconnected it.

My husband purchased a used 2002 f150 Ford truck back in 2004. In the past 3 years, the truck has major electrical issues every time it rains for more than 2 days straight. It starts with the radio shutting off while driving. Next the wipers will not work then the power windows wont open. Each time he gets in and out of his car, another electical feature will not work. Finally, when he gets in to start his car and it won't turn over. In April 2009, he has the electrical sensor in the gem model replaced. On April 28th 2010, he had to have the multifunctional fuse box replaced. In March 2011, he had a new battery installed. Today he is waiting for aaa to jump his car as it won't start. I called the dealer who informed me that their are no known recalls for this issue. We were told by another dealer that it sounds like water is getting into the fuse box module due to the front window not beigin properly sealed .

The vehicle wrench light came on and the engine quit. Had I been on a freeway, a serious accident might have occurred. I called the warranty service for a wrecker as it was still in warranty. About 40 minutes later, the wrecker arrived and the driver asked me if I had tried to restart the engine. I hadn't, tried, and it started. I researched the internet and found some information including a suggestion to disconnect the battery to reset the computer. Unfortunately, I did that and when I took it to the dealer the following Tuesday they couldn't tell what caused the problem. It happened again on March 25, 2009. Again, I was glad I was on a side street. I will take the truck to the dealer Tuesday even though the warranty has expired as this could be a very serious problem on a highway.

Vehicle dash lights would stay on when vehicle off. Door locks would lock and unlock by themselves while driving. And while the truck was off. Vehicle would be completely dead when go to start. After replacing with a new battery, truck would not start. Had a tow truck come and when he tried to start it, it started right up. After he shut off, it was completely dead would not start. Took truck to garage. It took mechanics 5 hours to find the problem. After checking all the relays and fuse boxes, etc. It ended up to be the fusebox under the dash. The fusebox was corroded and deteriorating due to water damage, which was causing the electrical problems. The mechanic said there was some type of leak from the windshield causing water to enter the fusebox. Thus causing the fusebox damage. The mechanics replaced the fusebox and a relay. I do have the old one that was damaged. He said the windshield needs to be taken out to be resealed on reinstalling. Which needs to be done yet. He said I was lucky not to have any major problems while driving or shorting which could lead to a fire problem.
Windshield leak on 2001 f150 has leaked into gem module and fuse box. Now in shop for second time Ford dealer will now replace windshield and other electrical components. First trip to shop they said it was the battery. I paid for that and the towing charge. A bit of internet searching leads me to believe this is a well known and documented problem with Ford trucks and suvs. Odi has looked into this before.

My battery light came on the dashboard came on, after a few minutes it went off, a couple of miles later it came back on, then off again. I checked my voltage gauge and it was fine. A couple of miles later I noticed my lights were dimming, I checked my voltage gauge again and it was reading zero. Minutes later all my electronics went out, no headlights, taillights, brake lights, my speedometer went out and everything else on the dash. Then the engine started misfiring and the vehicle shut off. This all happened while I was driving. I lost my power brakes, my power steering and had no lights. I noticed that while I was waiting for a tow truck, me head lights and tail lights were stuck on. They were on only enough to see the element in the light bulb glowing. The key was out of the ignition and the light switch was in the off position. They stayed on for the entire time I was with the vehicle, which was over an hour. The dealership said all they did was charge the battery and found nothing wrong. What caused the battery to lose a charge? they (Ford) could not answer that question and sent me on my way!.
Parked the vehicle in garage at 6:30 pm. At 7:00 pm heard a loud popping noise from garage. Opened door and saw flames and smoke. The flames were coming from under the hood of the car. The fire appears to have come from the drivers side. Insured by allstate margaret daniells 281-618-5306. Pronet investigated the fire contact abby david 800-216-7268. Three months prior to the fire had gone to bank and the electical controls were going crazy and the brake lights stopped working. Had it towed to dealer who said they replace the battery. The consumer did not remeber using the cruise control and do not know if it worked. Fire spread to the house.
When attempting to clean the positive battery terminal engine started.
Windshield seal leaked (rain) along roofline causing multiple electrical problems. Vehicle has multiple system warning lights visible on dash. Short circuit sounds coming from behind dashboard. Warning lights, blower motor and head lights operate without key in the ignition causing battery to be drained. Wipers cut off without warning. Door windows stop working without warning. Vehicle shifts into four-wheel drive without warning. Engine races while parked (revs to 4000 rpm and returns to normal). Sales man informed that Ford will not cover the problem because the truck is out of warranty and to bring truck to dealer (5/3/04). Truck would not start until 5/8/04. Seal to windshield separated from vehicle on left side while driving to dealership (5/10/04). The truck now has excessive wind noise. Truck will no longer start (5/11/04). I called Fords customer and requested that a representative from Ford inspect the truck. Customer service asked that the truck be towed to a Ford dealer. Truck was towed to local dealer. Dealer did not want to help me contact Ford after I informed them that the truck has a defective windshield seal. Dealership informs me on 5/13/04 that the zone supervisor from Ford said that there was nothing that could be done about the problem. In addition, dealer refuses to put statement in writing. The dealer also informed me that for a fee, they could seal the windshield and diagnosis the problem but the dealership where the truck was purchased from should do the repairs.
Consumer states the battery drainage continues to occur. Battery was replaced and incident has occurred approximately four times. Dealer contacted and cannot remedy the problem. Problem still exist. Provide further information. . .
