Advance trac warning light came on screen as wife and 2 young children were driving under normal conditions at night. Immediately wife lost power steering and could not avoid a mailbox in front of house . Truck immediately shut down upon crashing into mailbox and would not restart. . However lights , cluster in dash and interior lights would not shut off , with key removed from ignition . Wife opened doors . She inserted key into ignition while turning switches and knobs attempting to shut down accessories . Nothing would shut off . Sync system was asking several uninvited questions , while cluster was turning off and on , blinking , flashing random warning lights and indicators . Blinkers would not work . Towed vehicle home . With key not in ignition , same things , lights would not turn off . Removed vehicle ground cable from battery post . Purchased and installed brand new motorcraft battery and still have same issues . Can not drive truck at this point as this is a safety nightmare waiting to happen to unsuspecting drivers and passengers . There was no previous warning or pre-emptive measures that could have prevented this from occurring . After researching this issue , we know Ford is aware of it . We know they will not recall the rack and pinion steering that causes this . Please let me be perfectly clear : we do not care nor want to be part of a class action lawsuit . We are Ford lovers and owners since a 1978 pinto . We only want our truck to be fixed at no charge to us . We do not have any interest in exasperating this issue with other owners to further bash the Ford brand . We only wish to take it to the dealership and get it fixed with Ford at the very least giving us a discount on the labor or parts . If not full reimbursement , half off would ,make me a happy Ford owner again and in the future . Covid 19 has left us broke . Ford please help us !!!!!.

There have been 3 times now that my vehicle has randomly died while driving on the highway and city streets. With the engine not running I lost power steering and almost couldn't make a turn. No warning lights, no chimes. Looking into it myself I found that the fuel relay 20amp fuse was melted and the plastic around the terminal also melted. Ford has a TSB out for this issue but I feel it should be recalled for safety purposes as there is no warning and you lose all power. Little to no steering or brakes until you come to a stop and pop the hood open and wiggle that fuse in hopes that it will make contact again. This means that you could be left stranded or get into an accident trying to stop. Many people in online forums have had this same issue and it needs to be addressed accordingly.

Warning light appears "service advancetrac". Once. Then weeks later lost power steering while driving. As a strong man had to practically use all my body weight to avoid collision while almost standing. Got it towed to a Ford dealership. Diagnosis was defective electronic steering gear. Ford had recall on this same issue by recall #14s09, but my truck was not included in recall. This is a safety issue and could have caused an awful accident. Obviously the epas steering gear is defective and vehicles with it need to be recalled before someone has a major accident. The cost was $2583 for a vehicle with only 38897 miles. This is a safety issue!!.

I own a 2015 Ford f150 and while going through the mcdonalds drive through, at approx 5 mph I lost power steering unable to turn left or right. Errors displayed on dash for electronic power assist fault, advance trac fault, hill start assist fault. Also no cruise control. Pulled over in an empty parking spot, shut down the truck and restarted the truck, but there was no change to the string. Unable to drive further, I had to have the truck towed to nearby dealership greenway Ford in orlando. Per the service department, the steering control module is bad and will require replacement of the steering rack. Cost to me $1700. I purchased certified pre-owned extended warranty, but unfortunately the warranty doesn't cover steering rack. I am grateful we were not driving on the highway, as this could have turned out horribly.

After starting vehicle I heard noise after turning steering wheel to back up. Proceeded to go on road and the steering was not acting right. Like I had lost my power steering. Tried to make turn and had to commensate to make truck stay in the right lane. Not knowing what was going on tried to go straight as possible to a repair shop I usually use. It appeared turning was a problem. Pulled into their parking lot turning wheel real slow. They said it was the electric steering part and it should be under warranty. Left there making as few and slow turns as possible to nearest warranty station about 5 miles away, bill talley Ford in mechanicsville. Not sure when I would have no power steering I was scared to drive 15 miles to where I purchased the vehicle in Jan. , 2017, from sheety Ford. Talley Ford said they would have to replace whole electric power steering as there were no replacement parts for this item. I have read a lot of reports and reviews as Ford had this problem with other models and has done nothing about it. Sad I have a truck for less than 4 years and having to spend $2700,00 to replace a major part that Ford knows is defective.

Randomly the steering locks up and loses power steering - usually on a turn left and right - issue lasts 2 to 5 seconds and then returns to power steering. A hill decent failure warning light appears and then a service advancetrac warning light. Also feels like the brakes are being applied automatically. Very dangerous in traffic.

While backing up and upon turning the service advancetrac light came on and stayed on. I researched and found that Ford has been having problems since 2011 for the electric steering rack and pinion (it was new technology for the 2011 model) going bad and could cause an accident if you lose power steering and there have been TSB's about said problem and no recall has been done regarding this dangerous problem. This should be recalled knowing there is thousands of people having this problem and having to pay over $2k to get this fixed when Ford knows about said problem and will do nothing to help the consumer for this is a safety issue and someone could get seriously hurt.
Warning light appears "service advancetrac", then lost power steering. This happened twice while driving the vehicle. Happening intermittently. Drove to Ford dealership.
2014 f150 with 61,000 miles intermittently loses power steering. Had it at the dealership twice until the condition happened. I was told that the steering shaft is failing and must be replaced (approx. Cost $1900). Doing research I found that there was a recall on the 2014 f150 (NHTSA id 14v316000) in which the steering assist was incorrectly assembled and must be replaced. Also, the recall only includes trucks manufactured between may 26 and June 19, I'm told my truck was not manufactured during that time and I am responsible for the repair.
Driving down the interstate at 70mph, the power steering assist failure notice came on causing the vehicle to lose power steering. The exit ramp turn was difficult at best but trying to maneuver the vehicle prior to getting it repaired was insanely difficult and dangerous. Ford dealer had to replace the entire electronic steering controls ($1500 in parts - a complete unit) with a confirmed 'short' in the electronics.

Driving down country road when "power assist steering failure" light came on and instantly lost all power steering. Had to limp home and very difficult to maneuver vehicle.
Three days ago while driving on a city street in heavy traffic, I suddenly got an advance track warning on my dash display afterva right turn. That warning was immediately followed by a power steering fault warning. I lost power steering and pulled over at the first opportunity. About an hour after pulling over I started the vehicle and got the same warnings but the power steering worked as normal and shortly after driving the faults cleared. This issue has occured on my 10 minute commute to work and back for the past two days along with an intermittent binding sensation and subtle jerking of the steering wheel.
While driving heard a noise then lost all power steering.
I had just picked my son up from daycare and was turning off highway on way home and I lost power steering. Then service advanced trac and power steering assist fault was flashing on the cluster screen. And not even a year ago I just had the rack and pinion replaced on this truck.
While backing out of the driveway, the vehicle lost power steering and warning came up on the view screen saying torque angle sensor fault. After pulling vehicle back into the driveway and turning off the key the system operated normally, except there was a lot of slack in the steering and some pulsing when steering at slow speed. I took the vehicle to firestone to have it checked and was told I would have to have it checked at the dealership. On the way there, it lost power steering again while turning onto a back street. I shut off the vehicle and restarted it. This allowed me to drive it to the dealership. They put it in the shop and I was told that I would have to have the entire power steering unit replaced. The service advisor told me when I picked the vehicle up that it had malfunctioned on him while taking it into the shop. The part was around $1,600. With labor, alignment and taxes, it cost over $2,400 to get the vehicle back. I heard that the 2014 model vehicles had a recall for the same issue, but mine was not covered because it was a 2011 model.
I was driving down the road and lost all power steering resulting in almost wrecking into a gulley at a speed of 65mph.
Steering started to get tight while turning, this would only happen periodically. Then while I was exiting a freeway while pulling a trailer I lost all power steering and almost wrecked, the advancetrac service light and the electronic steering light came on. I had the truck towed to a service center to find out the front rack assembly needs to be replaced, truck is 2 1/2 years old and has 77,000 miles.
While driving in a deep curve, it becomes hard to straighten the steering wheel. It is like it loses its power steering for about 1-2 seconds and once you force it straight, the power steering begins working again. It will be fine for a few days and then start acting up again. Sometimes it is a full on stick in one position, other times it is jerky sticking as you are trying to straighten it back up. It has almost cause me to run off the road multiple times; I have had to learn to not panic when it happens and just slow down until I am back in control. The eps needs to be recalled on these before deaths occur. I have three very young children that I won't even drive around due to the fact that it is so dangerous to try to drive on in curves. This has been off and on happening for about 1. 5 years now. I am going to try to sell the truck and have been researching getting it fixed and if it was a recall her recently and I find it to be ridiculous that it will cost $2,000 on a truck that is only worth $10,000. It is even more crazy that it is something that has to be paid for when safety is the sole reason to do it. Ford should definitely fix this safety concern and get rid of the eps system.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the lose of power steering waring error illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v316000 ( steering). The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. Ak.
While driving down the highway the fault code for timing chain p0016 came on and engine seized in the middle of the highway. I lost all power steering and brake power which caused me to almost collide with other vehicles trying to get off the highway with no power. After finally getting truck on the off ramp it took all I had to get it to stop at the intersection putting my life and the driver of the SUV at the intersection life in danger.
August 2018- while driving the vehicle the power steering assist light alert appeared and was unable to steer the vehicle. I pulled over and stopped, shut vehicle off and turned it back on and was able to steer. During the next few weeks, this occurred again at various speeds. At times, the power steering would work and the light would disappear. However, I did not have power steering when I took the vehicle in for repair. I took the truck to the Ford dealership - diagnosis code u2011 and u3000. Dealership repaired motor inside steering gear. Total cost for parts and labor was $2333. 29. October 2018 - while driving the vehicle on the highway going 65 mph and exiting I lost power steering - assist alert light appeared. Was able to hard break at stop sign, turn off vehicle and turn back on - power steering was working again, November 2018 - the power steering alert light appeared on 3 different times. All going different rates of speed. The most dangerous was highway speeds, exiting highway to turn right at a stop light and lost all power steering. I was able to control vehicle and pull into a parking lot. Contacted dealership - they had the truck for 10 days; could not duplicate issue. Advised to replace tire. Purchased 4 new tires cost over $1000. Today, 11/20/2018 less than 24 hours later while driving the vehicle the power steering light appeared again.
While driving home the power steering assist warning came on and lost all power steering. Was very difficult to steer. Had it taken to dealer was told this is common problem with the power steering just going out. Mileage was 59845 miles.
Vehicle loses power steering can't turn the wheel traction control light comes on but it happens so fast and you need two grown men to try to turn the steering wheel just to get off of road to safety.
I have a 2013 Ford f150 fx2 and when driving the past few days, the "power steering assist fault" signal came on and I automatically lose power steering in the truck. This has happened when starting the truck but also while moving and driving on the road (roughly 40 mph). Luckily, I was on a low traffic road to where I could get over however, this could be extremely dangerous on a busy highway. If my wife was driving at the time, she wouldn't be able to manually pull the steering wheel and get off the road and potentially get into an accident. Based on research, a lot of Fords are experiencing this and action needs to be taken!.
My truck lost power steering while turning with trailer on farm road. The steering was very hard, so that, I almost collided with bee hives. At first, the electric power steering screeched, the then I got a service message " service advance trac" . Finally, I got a message of " power steering fault". I suspect the steering rack assembly (epas).
Pulling out in motion on to a busy street I lost all power steering almost getting into a major vehicle accident. Once losing powers steering cause me to go in other lanes of traffic.
Upon start up, when leaving walmart parking lot hill descent control fault and service advance trac came on the display. I lost all power steering!!! after further investigation, this seems to be a common issue. . This is a major safety concern! if this happened at high speed in a corner this could be deadly!!! this issue needs to be addressed by Ford! major safety issue! needs to be recalled. . . . I am taking it to local Ford dealer ASAP!.
The steering automatically stopped working while driving on expressway at 70 mph. As I exited the highway, the steering countinuly was lost of power steering. Luckily, I was able to make the truck drive home, but was very risky to drive trying to avoid driving off road, or avoiding car accident. I had no choice but to drive into work today, and feel this truck it's completely not road safe. The Ford service center has told me the electric steering system epas needs to be replaced, and I am not willing to pay for this service since the truck has 45,000 miles . I have googled this epas electric steering question, and come to find out this problem seems to be in all of Ford pick up trucks, which Ford will not address this matter. What am I supposed to do? keep driving ? what will geico insurance say about this if I cause an accident? who would be the victim? me, the other driver's , Ford, and geico pays the bill? thanks ,.
While driving lost power steering ; power steering assist fault showed up on screen.
76000 miles. Driving home and lost all power steering. Luckily close to the dealership. Limped in and they got it right in. The advance trac light was on and they checked it for over an hour. Finally, they said the epas system has failed and it costs $1900 to replace it!.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. While driving, the vehicle lost power steering ability and the vehicle continued to turn after the wheels were turned straight. There were no warning indicators illuminated before or during the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000. The VIN was not available.
Twice in the last week the a warning to service the advance trac system came on and lost power steering. Making it almost impossible to drive home. The next morning it worked fine, no warnings. I am afraid to let my wife or kids drive it for safety reasons.
I was driving down road approx 30 mph went to make a turn and lost all power steering luckily no other cars aroumd. My vehicle only had 34786 miles on it. Contacted Ford and got no where could not even talk to someone higher up than the complaint department. Went to dealership and found out repair would be $ 1418. 59 to replace the electronic power steering rack. I have seen where numerous Ford vehicles have been recalled for this particular power steering.
Power steering fault and service advanstrac message displayed on start up while parked, lost all power steering in truck. I took to local Ford dealer, bob bell Ford, glen burnie, MD 21061. Dealer first diagnosed as bad battery and reprogramming needed. I expressed I had researched and found issues with epas as cause, was assured battery would correct issue. Once home the truck threw the same codes the following morning and had lost of power steering. I took back to dealer that afternoon. Dealer advised they needed to install new electronic steering gear part # el3z be replaced with part # el3z 3504. Truck is a 2014 Ford f150 with about 56k miles on it. I have found that there are numerous complaints (easy google search) about Fords epas gear in the f150 and other vehicles, causing an expensive replacement cost for the entire steering gear. To my knowledge there have been recalls on similar if not same part for epas on f150 and others. I would like to request your consideration into investigating Fords epas and holding them accountable for a recall and full payment of replacement parts. Total out of pocket expense was over $1700, after their initial diagnosis, replacement of battery, reprogramming, gear replacement and labor. Thank you.
