Failure Date: 02/04/2019

Just drove from louisiana to texas to come to work offshore. Along the way I get a message on dash. Steer assist fail, abs light, hill assist fail as well. Nothing feels strange so I keep driving to make it to work at 2 am. Stop for gas, start truck and have no power steering. No replies from any dealer around to help including dealer back home,I will either be forced to pay to have it fixed. Apparently Ford knows something but dealers arent saying a word.

12 Steering Failed problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/21/2019

While driving the interior instrument lights suddenly come on park brake, 4x4, air bag, traction, abs, advance trac, and steering assist. During this process the brakes engage & then you can hear the scrubbing sound of the brakes. This has happened multiple times. I've returned it to the dealer for service 3 times, after a month of diagnostic testing & road testing the steering system failed on the serviceman while driving it. They informed me that they want to return the vehicle to me without making any repairs because it has not re initiated this process in the last 3 days. This is a safety hazard for me and any other vehicle on the road. Ford has informed me that if the steering goes out while driving call roadside to bring it back. Total disregard for my safety and or anyone else. This event occurs while driving, it also shows these readings upon starting the vehicle. This has happened under 30,000 miles and over that threshold. It has happened on multiple occasions.

Electronic steering assist malfunction/ advanced trac malfunction. Steering is failing, hard to turn. Making noises. Ford did recall these trucks for those reasons but did not include my batch number. My vehicle is exhibiting the same issues as the recall. Mine should have been recalled.

15 Steering Failed problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/03/2018

While making a left hand turn at an intersection the steering wheel violently turned to the right forcing my truck to swerve off the road. I had no control over the car and could not get the steering wheel to move. Immediately the advancetrac warning light came on as well as the battery warning light. I did not lose power to the truck but was on able to turn the wheel. After a couple attempts of turning off the truck and starting it again I was able to get steering back. I tried to make it off of the freeway on ramp but was only able to make it a few feet until the steering failed again and swung the car to the right. I had the truck towed to the nearest Ford dealership and they said that the steering gear failed. I was quoted $1950 for the part. The truck is just short of 60k miles and being out of warranty they said all I can due is file a report. I am having to pay for the repairs until my report is reviewed. I have read numerous reports of this same problem happening to other owners with the same year and make as my truck and think this is an extremely dangerous problem. I don't think it is right that any automobile can lose steering at anytime with out the option to at least maneuver the vehicle to safety. I am filing a report with Ford to try and get reimbursed.

17 Steering Failed problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/05/2018

2013 Ford F-150 stx with 45k miles-- steering suddenly became difficult to turn and would briefly freeze up when city driving, moving at 20-40 mph. I took it to woltz and wind Ford and found out that the truck had electronic power assist steering. An intermediate shaft was replaced at a cost of $428. Further research on this problem has shown that there are many problems with this type of steering that can lead up to total steering failure and loss of control of the vehicle. I now am questioning whether to keep this truck that could cost me $2000 to fix when the rack needs replaced or possibly even cause an accident. Other Ford vehicles with this same problem have been recalled so why has the manufacturers defect in this truck not been recalled?.

19 Steering Failed problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/15/2017

I have a 2011 f150 with 65k miles. I noticed extra play in the steering at just under 60k miles. I had power steering module recalibrated. I thought this fixed the problem. Approx 3mos later I am having the same issue. Loss of control at high speeds and corners. I had alignment done today which did not fix the problem. Dealership said I needed a $1600 steering gear replaced. They couldnt tell me why this would fail with low miles unless it was a faulty part. After researching consumer complaints online it looks like there are many complaints about accidents on low mile f150s of this year due to steering failure. When I asked if the vehicle was safe to drive if I could not get this part right away, ($1600) they said that it is not unheard of for the steering to fail. They could not tell me why a recall for safety has not been done.

20 Steering Failed problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/18/2017

I was backing my F-150 down an alley out into the street when I had a sudden and complete steering failure. The steering wheel did not just feel stiff but locked up as if it were being held by something. There was no indication from either symptoms or any type of warning light as to the fail prior to this. After torquing on it. It finally broke to the right and then was able to move the wheels but it wanted to lock in certain positions. I am a big guy and could hardly move the wheel when it was trying to lock up. My wife would not have been able to move it at all. I have read the information since on this system and have found that the problem is consistent to the type of devise used to drive the power assist. When the electromagnet fails it locks into position rather than assisting the steering. This is very dangerous as it takes an incredible amount of power to move to steering wheel if this happens. This should not be an issue on a 5 year old truck that has just 50k this month.

Failure Date: 07/15/2017

2011 f150 steering failure , when failed steering failed stability control and steering went. While making turn steering would " lock" preventing tempary control of pickup, before completing trip power assist went totally out. Contacted Ford they state that the power assist needs to be replaced from description alone, they also had recalled multiple other vehicles for this issue how ever the f 150 is not one of those and it will cost 3 k to fix. . . . Umm if all your other vehicles are doing this and this one is doing the same thing then its a defect! the only thing that helped me prevent the accident from happening was my training as an evo ( emergency vehicle operator) at the time of failure I was turning in front of semi , if I would not have taken the ditch and prevented measures this would have been a quad fatality . Truck is parked at a dress given unable to drive home.

Ford recalled other vehicles for same issue due to safety but not mine. I see on line many forums disucssing my exact issue on the same model year. I went to Ford corporate with no traction as they seemed like they didnt know the issue. I took my truck to the Ford dealer & they agree that its failing & want to charge me full price for correction which is 2k to replace electronic steering rack. I said I couldn't afford, they inspected my vehicle & passed it knowing that the steering was unsafe. I cannot afford 2k, I paid 45k for the truck. I have purchase many Fords. 32 Steering Failed problem of the 2012 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

Since October 2015 my steering on my 2012 Ford f150 supercrew 4x4 with 44,000 miles randomly freezes up without warning. This issue occurs mostly after making a left turn. After turning, the steering wheel fails to return to center. Occasionally this issue happens while driving straight, which makes driving very scary as I have to continually work to keep the wheel centered. I did take it to the Ford dealer once when this problem was happening for a few days straight, but by the time they tested it the issue dissappeared. In reviewing the multitude of complaints for this issue, I am shocked that there is no recall issued for dangerous problem.

Second incident with my 2011 Ford F-150. Epas steering gear failed 9 months after purchasing new. Failed again last week. Second replacement of this gear. This is a safety hazard. The first time this gear failed, I was unable to steer, fortunately I was turning at a stop light at slow speed. This most recent time I could still steer but wasn't sure for how long. This is a well known issue with this model truck and should be recalled and properly fixed before someone looses steering at highway speeds.

35 Steering Failed problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

Steering started freezing at speeds around 20-25 mph. Not a huge deal at first because of city driving. . It eventually got worse at higher speeds. . August 7th 2015 , the steering failed at 65mph and sent the truck towards the concrete median. It could have been tragic. I ended up taking it to the shop that Monday and having the electronic power steering unit replaced at 1200. 00 plus. I am really upset that there is no recall on this with the danger it can cause!.
