The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel became erratic and started shaking. The steering wheel ceased without warning. The contact pulled over and saw that there was no power steering fluid in the reservoir. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the electronic power steering assist failed to perform as designed. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was not under recall and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.

Power steering failed at highway speed while being driven by my wife, almost causing a serious crash. Ford has known about this problem for years and perhaps someone will be killed before a recall is initiated. An issue as dangerous as this should be addressed immediately, whether it is by Ford, voluntarily or mandated by the proper governing authority.

Pulling into a parking lot, just after traveling on the 65 mph highway, my steering wheel locked and kicked back hard injuring my left thumb. The steering wheel would not turn at all. The truck remained operational otherwise but the steering remained locked. A warning message appeared saying "power steering failure". Had to have the truck towed to the dealership. I have research the hundreds, if not more, complaints and safety issues with the F-150 steering and this needs to be addressed by Ford as this will, if not, cause serious bodily harm. This is the last Ford I will ever own, period. They do not stand by their inept electronic components and customers are paying the price.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and also informed the vehicle was not under a recall and will had to pay a fee for the repair and referred the contact to NHTSA. Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the power steering failed to operate as needed with the power steering assistance fault and advanced track warning messages displayed on the instrument panel. Due to the failure, the contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle however, the same failure recurred less than two miles later. The contact drove to his destination and called crown Ford (256 swain st, fayetteville, nc 28303, (910) 600-6598) where an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

The contact husband managed to steering the wheel and drive to his residents. The vehicle was towed to the dealer Ford of montebello 2747 via campo, montebello, CA 90640 (323) 838-6920 where is was diagnosed that the power steering failed and needed ot be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned NHTSA campaign number: 14v316000 as a possible soultion to the failure however the recall was not included in the VIN. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that no recalls was associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 118,00. Ck.

My truck had a total powering steering failure today(4-12-2020). No advanced warning. The truck was being driven when the failure occurred. Thank god no accident!.

While driving power steering shut off and got a warning on instrument panel stating power steering assist failure. Stopped vehicle turned off engine, restarted and problem went away. Later in day while on highway same issue occurred causing very difficult to steer and control vehicle. This vehicle equipped with electronic steering assist and not hydraulic.

The contact received a repair estimate of $1,600. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact of NHTSA campaign number: 14v316000 (steering); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000.

An electrical problem in the epas unit has resulted in the loss of power steering in my 2013 Ford F-150. Vehicle has 63,000 miles and has no accidents and has not been subject to abnormal driving conditions. The problem presented itself when the weather became cold during the fall of 2019. When outside temperatures dropped below 65 degrees and I started my vehicle I received a "power steering assist failure" warning and the vehicle did not have power steering. Testing over a 4 week period as the outside temperature fluctuated between 40-80 degrees allowed me to see the connection to the power steering failure and the outside temperature. Additionally, when the outside temperature was close to, but did not exceed 65 degrees. I could start my vehicle and drive it around, the heat from the engine would warm the unit enough to allow it to work. All I needed to do was turn the vehicle off and then back on and the power steering would work. After reading about all the recalls Ford has issued related to their epas unit I believe there is systemic problem with the part. Additionally, this part cannot be serviced and requires a full replacement. Part cost is $1500 plus 2-3 hours of labor. Putting the total cost to repair at $1800 - $1900 in my area.

There is common issue with year models around 2012 concerning the power steering going out while driving. There are numerous complaints online about it and the parts were recalled in the 2014 F-150 and SUV models for a couple of years. Ford needs to perform a recall on F-150s for the years before 2014. Vehicle was in motion on a city street when the power steering failed. Wheel was incredibly hard to turn and almost caused an accident as I was navigating to a safe area.

Power steering suddenly failed and the service advancetrac light came on while accelerating from a stop sign and turning left. Maneuvered the car down the street and couldn't navigate the driveway so I backed up and the power steering began working but the advancetrac light remained on. This light came on before but with no effect to the steering only the blinkers, which would not stay on. Disconnected the battery and light and problem went away. Spoke with the dealer and was told that it was also connected to the abs braking system and to schedule an appointment if these happens again. 114800 miles.

Ford automatic engine off at idle feature causes power steering failure when active. When engine reactivated upon hitting gas the power steering is delayed. This is a problem when waiting at stoplights for a turn. , especially a left turn into oncoming traffic. Requests to Ford to allow deactivation of the feature as opposed to having to manually disable it every time I enter the vehicle has been ignored. This feature can be dangerous and there is no reason Ford can't reprogram the bypass. Instead they choose to ignore while allowing this dangerous feature to remain active by default.

I was on a two lane residential road. It had been raining and the street was still damp. The speed limit is 35 mph. I was slowing to make a left turn, when the power steering went completely out. I barely missed hitting 3 telegram poles which are located at the intersection. The power steering assist failure blinked on and off so quickly I am still not sure if I read it correctly. I was also too busy trying to correct the vehicle out of the on-coming traffic. I was turning off the 2 lane road onto a residential street in a residential neighborhood, that normally has cars parked and intermittent vehicular traffic. I was scared to death. I am grateful that I was slowing for the turn and more grateful that there was no on-coming traffic. This happened without any warning and it took me approximately 15-20 minutes to make it home (which is less than a half of a mile). The power steering was completely gone.

Truck gave "service advance trac" warning. Only 1 day later, a loud squealing came from front of truck, then less that 1 minute later, all steering was out. Fortunately I was in a parking lot when the steering went out while trying to park the vehicle. The noise came when turning the steering wheel either right or left. As of 6/18/2019, while checking mileage for this report, a warning of "power steering assist failure" came on.

The message "power steering assist fail" message appeared on the instrument panel and was very hard to drive vehicle and to negotiate turns to get home from work on Friday evening, 6/7/2019. Had vehicle towed to the local Ford dealer on Saturday and have not heard back.

In addition, the steering seized a few times, which caused the contact to pull over. Once the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it operated normally; however, "power steering assist failure" appeared on the instrument panel. The contact scheduled a diagnostic appointment for may 29, 2019 with five star Ford richland hills (6618 ne loop 820, north richland hills, TX 76180, (817) 500-0096). The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 71,150. The VIN was invalid.

The power steering failed, it is almost impossible to steer. This is a serious safety issue, and could easily result in a deadly accident. I am not finding a recall for this, although it is obvious that Ford has known about it for years. The dealership wants $2295 to repair it.

Service advancetrac, power steering failure, hill descent control fault lights all come on and power steering has stopped working. Previously these would come on as soon as the trucks started, lights come one, shut truck off, restarted truck and lights went off. This has happened twice. Third time lights came on while driving and power steering completely went out while traveling down interstate.

The power steering fails without warning. At times it requires 'muscling' the steering to turn or straighten the wheels after a turn. It happens when the vehicle is in motion on city streets, highway and turning. There are a lot of other Ford F-150 truck owners having the same problem as reported on different sites. This is a serious safety concern as it causes the driver to potentially lose control of the vehicle b/c it's unpredictable. It's very expensive to have 'fixed' if the service department even knows what to do or the repair fails! there have been recalls on this problem but only in a very limited date range. Also the power steering seems to be failing on other Ford vehicles, as even reported to NHTSA. Imagine losing steering while traveling on I-80 (esp in PA) or negotiating a turn. Please investigate!!!!.

My power steering has failed four times. The first two times, it corrected itself. The third time, my service center found a code that showed a miscommunication between the wheel and steering system, which locked the wheel. It has now happened a third time. It is very dangerous, as it happens while I am driving! it starts when I put it in drive, regardless of where I am. I live and work in nashville, TN.

Intermittent power steering assist failure, results in a difficult to control, and potentially deadly situation. First happened at appx 20 mph while cornering, and momentary exit of lane into oncoming traffic until able to wrestle vehicle back into lane. I was on a curvy country road.

No warning lights present took to dealer told me steering gear assembly needs replaced and there has been alot of recalls for this but my truck has not got the recall on this problem this is very dangerous and Ford needs to fix this problem before someone gets hurt or killed do to it. . .

My power steering has completely failed, there are not any warning indicators on its just out. It started aroud 12/25/18 it would stick during a turn I would have to use force to straighted the wheel. Somedays it would work just fine. As of 1/21/19 its completely out, no power steering what so ever.

Power steering fails intermittently, not very often but at random times. Mechanic said its the electronic power steering failure. Needs a new electronic power steering assembly. . . . . Only 40,000 miles.

While driving at highway speeds, electric power steering failed. Service advance-trac message displayed, low battery displayed, turn signals won't work, and traction/stability control is disabled. All related to the power steering rack.

Power steering failure. It started with just the "service advance trak" light coming on after making a sharp turn. When this light was on the turn signals would not work. Now I have little to no power steering at all times. There seems to be several complaints about this and even a recall for F-150's of this year but it is not on the list.

While turning to the left I heard a sequelching noise. I then got a message to service my acutraction system. I would turn my truck off then back on and it would reset and go off. This took place for a few days. While message was on the lever for my turn signals would not stay activated. Today (9/25/2018) I got the message again. This time I also got a power steering assist failure and it became very difficult to turn. Truck only had 66,000 miles on it. I have got rid of truck because of it. I have also had a fault in the air bag control module.

First received advance trac warning, then hill descent warning and then power steering failure indication. Power steering failure was sudden and unexpected and almost caused an accident when in motion doing a turn, due to electronic power steering system lock up which prevented the front wheels from turning as much as expected. This is a very dangerous unexpected condition and could have caused a serious accident with injuries or worse if occurred at highway speeds!.
