My 6 month pregnant wife was driving the truck when the dash read "power steering assist fault" she lost all power steering and was un able to control the vehicle. Talked to Ford dealership, they said rack is faulty. Thankfully my wife, niece and unborn child where un harmed when the defective piece failed. This is a safety hazard and should be recalled immediately. If they were traveling at high speeds, she wouldn't have been able to control the vehicle on a corner.

While driving thru a parking lot I received a warning "service advantrac" then while making a turn into a food drive thru another alarm went off. Power steering assist fault. I lost all power steering and nearly crashed into the drive thru sign. This all happened within minutes. When the steering goes out there is not advanced indications or warnings until it happens. The electric assist motor is just disabled. You have no steering at that point. It is harder to turn then an older manual steering vehicle. The entire rack n pinion steering unit has to be replaced due to under engineering. It is one motor but is embedded into the rack. The cost alone is 1200. 00 for the rack not including labor to install and reprogram. To me this is an extreme safety issue that will some day get someone severely injured or death due to a non steering vehicle. At the time of the failure I had just driven over a very steep and windy mountain road. Scary to think what might have happened if it had failed on that road.
Was making a right turn from a state road to a city street the dash display popped up stating there was a power steering assist fault and I lost my power steering immediately. I was able to forcefully turn the steering wheel to avoid going into oncoming traffic. Don't believe my wife would have had the same results. Took vehicle to Ford dealership to be looked at. $1600. 00 later to replace the rack and pinion steering unit which includes the power steering assist mechanism. I was lucky to not get into a crash. After reading about other people having the same issue which did result in a crash, I feel Ford needs to put this on re call notice before a death occurs.
Driving down the road around 30mph and lost power steering. "power steering assist fault" appeared on the message center in the gauge cluster. Pulled over safely and restarted the vehicle and the message was still on the message center. Power steering is still absent.
Going down the road at 65mph, lost power steering. This is gonna kill someone. Ford dealership says 1500 dollars, I say you pay for it. No way at 120k miles should I lose power steering.
I have lost all power steering while the truck is in motion. The service advance trac light comes on. I have had the steering gear replaced twice now and this is in the last18 months, each time costing over $1700. It is very dangerous as it has always happened while I am driving. There have been recalls for the same thing in other years and there are all kinds of complaints to be read.
Driving down road and lost power steering. Took all my strength to steer truck. Pulled over and discovered also lost turn signal, headlights didn't work. Two messages came up, check traction control and low battery power save mode. Might of been other things not working but didn't check for anything else. Drove it to Ford dealer. Again took all my strength to turn steering wheel. Was driving down straight road about 20 mph. Very lucky didn't happen on corner or when wife driving it.

Lost power steering while driving on a freeway. I was able to drive vehicle home. But vehicle unsafe to drive. Ford needs to make a power steering recall to this vehicle before somebody dies. . . .
While driving the power steering suddenly quit with no warning. The vehicle was hard to steer. Pulled over and shut vehicle completely off. Steering worked fine after restarting the vehicle. Over the next couple of days while driving the vehicle it would randomly loses power steering with no warning.
Traveling at low speed and turning at an intersection, the vehicle lost all power steering resulting in running off the road. No damage to the vehicle or injuries were incurred. The vehicle on had 43,000 miles. I was told by the local dealer that the vehicle was not listed on a recall list but that they had been having a lot of problems with this issue. The steering gear assembly was replaced by the dealer.
Driving on interrstate 70 at 65 mph, I had several alerts begin flashing ranging from check 4x4, hill assist failure, 2h, parking brake and many more. In addition I lost power steering, brake lights and turn signals. I was able to drive truck home. This happened 4 more times. I called dealer and they suggested I drive it to their establishment some 20 miles away. I did not feel safe and contacted roadside assistance to tow the truck. I had to beg for a loaner one week later I received a call stating the technician needed to drive the truck to see if the same alerts happened even though they found 12 plus alerts when they analyzed the truck in their shop. I allowed this to occur as I wanted answers. I received a call today stating they had found the problem, a wire had became corroded in the steering column causing all the alerts to malfunction. They are replacing the entire column and my truck will be completed by Tuesday. I had purchased this truck just 4 months prior and have been a loyal Ford customer for 30+ years.

The service advance trac light came on when I started up my truck for the day. I lost all power steering control and the blinkers stopped working. My truck is a 2013 F-150 with only 38,000 miles. This is a serious safety problem that Ford knows about and you, the NHTSA knows about the problem. It is time that something is done about this safety problem. Is everybody going to wait like gm did until there are multiple fatalities before this is addressed? do something!.
My steering has become tight and catches when turning to the left. It catches when at a stop or going around curves like I've lost the power steering and has caused me to almost hit other vehicles on several occasions. It doesn't matter if I'm driving 25 miles an hour or driving down the highway. It pulls to the left all the time.
While driving down and interstate "power steering assist failure" warning comes up and I lost all power steering. I was able to muscle the car home and after calling the dealer the service manager said they had no idea why that would happen. After researching on the site, it seems this is a common problem that is recalled in some model years but not in others. I have been complaining about the "service advancetrak" warning coming on since I purchased the vehicle and was always told it wasn't hurting anything. I have an extended warranty but after reading it may not do any good. I will be at the dealership tomorrow.
Power steering assist fault came on . Lost power steering almost got in a accident. Almost hit a semi . . Took in to shop and they said, faulty gear box. . . Someone is going to get killed. You are recalling 2015 on this same issue. . Ford need to step up and fix this problem on all electrical power steering I. Am going to seek a lawyer on this problem. . They say it going to cost me 2500. 00. . . . . I don't have this amount to fit this.
I was making a series of turns in a parking lot looking for a building on a college campus and then without warning I lost power steering. A warning light came on and said that there is a braking assist fault. I finally was able to muscle my truck into a parking space and shut the truck off. When I turned the truck back on my power steering was back. It went on for two days without happening again, until today (7-24-15) it occurred twice in one day. The steering wheel is feeling funny especially when turning left. It feels a little lose when turning left. It feels like it is slipping when turning. Again once the vehicle is shut off and restarted the power steering returned.
While driving to work my steering began to be very hard to steer and a warning appeared on screen to check power steering then I lost all power steering and warning in screen went to repair power steering now. I no longer have power steering and have had estimates up to 2200 dollars to repair.
Leaving red light, truck stalled. Oil light came on, lost power steering, brake. Was able to coast at an angle to the side. Could have caused an accident or traffic jam. Put truck in park, waited a minute, turned back on and gave it gas. Ran fine after that. Took to dealership next day. They said would not be any way to know what happened without pulling engine apart. Suggested multi point inspection and tune up. Did not mention this issue occurring previously or the numerous complaints of this issue online. They found a dusty air intake sensor that could have caused the problem. Changed spark plugs and performed tune up & oil change. Incident happened again leaving gas station pump on Dec 29, 2014. When restarted, it cranked several times but wouldn't fire up. Tried 3 times before successful start. Ran fine after that. Afraid a stall at high speed or when pulling my horse and trailer will cause major accident. Have seen complaints of fuel purge valve or throttle body butterfly valve causing this. Needs to be addressed by Ford.

Screeching in rack and pinion and lost all power steering. Took for diagnostic and was told it was the steering angle sensor embedded in the rack. Entire rack has to be replaced. Truck is only 3 years old with 52,000 miles. New rack and pinion is over $1500.
The truck loses its power steering capability after about 10-15min of driving down the road. If a turn needs to be made, the steering wheel freezes without notice, which causes panic; additionally, it rattles and clunks as it is manually maneuvered. It becomes necessary to quickly strong-arm the steering wheel, in hopes of forcibly completing the turn so that it doesn't go off the path possibly crashing into something or someone. Ford has issued a TSB #05-9-23 pertaining to this issue. Why is a mechanical problem that can be so dangerous to the driver, passengers and others not identified as a recall vs. A TSB?.

I was driving home on freeway. Right before exiting I lost my power steering. It was very difficult to steer. It took all my strength to switch lanes, turn corners, and make it home. Also, the traction control icon appeared in Smart screen. Took vehicle to Ford where they hopefully repaired problem. They said it was a faulty module inside the powersteering . My concern is if I'm already having problems , what next! and what are my rights?.
While negotiating a right turn on a busy intersection, I heard a couple of popping sound from the engine compartment. After that, I lost power steering on right turn and almost ran head on in an oncoming vehicle from the opposite direction. I have to slow down to a crawl because I have to hang on to the steering wheel to negotiate the turn. The other driver has to stop to let me get back to my lane. Everytime I negotiate a curve on hwy 160 from pagosa springs to colorado springs, I have to slow down to about 45 mph to negotiate the curve. It felt like I'm working against hydraulic pressure everytime I steer to the right. Left steer is a bit hard but not as hard and almost impossible to steer to the right. The was informed by the dealer that the power steering gear box was defective. This incident of loosing steering on a busy city street could have resulted in a serious accident.
