On my way to work took a left turn to the interstate on ramp and steering temporarily locked up/stuck in the turned position for a second or two and returned to normal the rest of the trip. At lunchtime operation was pretty normal except for slight handling difficulty. Backing out after work noticed a creaking/groaning noise as well as a popping noise felt thru the steering wheel. Pulled out onto highway and immediately noticed steering jerking (not pulling, drifting or wandering) left and right with slight bumps in the road and/or steering input. Pulled over at a gas station, turned the truck off for a few minutes and restarted with no change. Switched off traction control and it actually did improve some the rest of my drive home. Got home, parked, turned it off. 15 minutes later got in with my 6 year old son and 15 year old niece, pulled out onto highway and steering totally locked up mid turn. Luckily it was late in the afternoon and traffic was low and we were not completely blocking the road so traffic could go around. Was able to back onto shoulder and call a tow truck. Ford dealership found pscm not operating properly. Steering gear was replaced.

The truck has been to the dealership 4 times now for a small grinding noise and hard steering. The original thought was the transmission module. After a 1 month backorder on the part, the grinding noise went away, but the steering still felt stiff. It was as if the steering wheel was fighting me to go back to center. While driving straight, the truck lunges left or right depending on the most previous turn I performed. The rear end juts coming out of 4th gear as if the transmission has no clue what gear it should be in around 30 mph. It is the absolute worst when the engine on/off system is engaged. Coming out of a stop, it is like there is zero power steering. I feel like this should be a fluid response (foot off brake onto accelerator, turn wheel, and enjoy the ride). What you feel instead is like trying to twist your ulna and radius bones 360 degrees on axis - the truck doesn't like it. Bottom line is the truck feels dangerous. I personally do not want to be one of the unfortunate statistics seemingly necessary to start a recall. I want Ford motor CO to see all the complaints and man to fix an obviously flawed system.

I was driving one afternoon and all of a sudden when I turned my steering wheel it would let out a high pitched screeching noise and my steering wheel would lock up. I couldn't turn it left nor right because it was stuck but if I forced it it would unlock but still make the screeching sound. And this is where I am at almost wrecking 5 times that day trying to get home and not being able to drive to work with my car due to the fact my power steer is failing for no reason what so ever.

My steering became very hard to steer suddenly and started making a loud noise when steering wheel is pulled to the right or left. Luckily I was close to my house and was not in traffic where someone could have really been hurt.

Power steering made a grinding noise when the steering wheel was turned fully to the left. A warning regarding the stabilitrack system appeared on the dash. Subsequently while I was driving on a street power steering assist stopped, resulting in very difficult steering. My mechanic scanned the computer and found that the steering angle sensor failed.

While making a sharp left turn I heard a loud squeaking sound, and then got the advance trac fault and it reset it self and a few days later got the same sound and fault. About 3 weeks later I heard the same noise and the steering wheel locked intermittently and I wasn't able to turn the steering wheel left direction. Had vehicle taken to local Ford dealer and was told by service tech that the steering gear needs to be replaced, cost $1,750. This is a very dangerous problem that needs to be recalled and repaired by Ford. This can put a driver in an accident resulting in injury or possible death upon failure.
While making a sharp left turn I heard a loud squeaking sound, and then got the advance trac fault and it reset it self and a few days later got the same sound and fault. About 3 weeks later I heard the same noise and the steering wheel locked and I wasn't able to turn the steering wheel either direction. Had vehicle towed to local Ford dealer and was told by service tech that the steering gear needs to be replaced, cost $1,750.
Backing out of my garage I turned the steering wheel all the way to the left and the power steering made a noise and the advance trac warning and hill descent warning came on. As I continued to drive it each time the wheel needed to be turned to the left the same noise would occur and the steering wheel would resist turning. Soon the problem increased to be both directions and I took it to the shop and they disconnected something so there isn't any power steering. This could affect someone driving and cause them not to turn.
Steering started making a funny noise and power steering stopped working. Could not steer vehicle. No prior issues with steering.
Vehicle has just over 40,000 miles all highway. Vehicle is 4wd. Vehicle has never towed, hauled or been off road. Took vehicle to Ford dealership to have a/c serviced (which was noted having problems during warranty, but techs never found issue nor ran diagnostics) during the diagnostics the service tech stated there was a noise coming from the steering gear. *note the vehicle had been out of owner's possession and at the dealership awaiting a/c service for 4 days. Owner stated that there had been no steering issues or warnings displayed in the vehicle and had been operating without any problems. Dealership states that when they finished the a/c service that the steering ceased upon backing the vehicle out of the service area. Owner asked why the steering gear is not covered under the drive train warranty. The dealership advised that this issue is a common issue that is being encountered with the new Ford epas system and is not covered under the drivetrain warranty even though the vehicle's low mileage. Owner requesting that Ford pay for replacement due to it being commonly defective. Vehicle still in dealership's possession.
I own a 2011 F-150, 5. 0, crew cab, 4x4. I started noticing a popping or clinking noise coming from the steering column. The noise has been getting worst and is very annoying as well. I notice at lower speeds when driving down our gravel road. I typed this issue in as well on the F-150 forum and there are numerous post with same issue! many are saying it has to deal with electric power assist steering. I will be taking it into the dealer, to hopefully get this issue resolved. I just hope that Ford will step up and fix this issue.
Steering sector was making a noise when turning steering wheel left or right. Contacted dealer, and dealer could not fix vehicle . Contacted Ford, and Ford went along with dealership.
