Eight problems related to wiring have been reported for the 2000 Ford F-250. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tail light bulb socket burnt. Noticed that bulb acts like it's blown but reseating allows it to function again. This happens about once a month. No fuses are tripped which is odd. However the first time I checked this I noticed the socket was scorched yet wiring looks ok. I assumed it was just my vehicle but since have heard same report from others on their trucks and cars. There is no indication of danger until you remove tail light to check bulb.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-250 4x4. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, a loud noise was heard coming from the engine and smoke emitted from the tail pipe. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic, where the diagnostic test indicated that the wiring injector was melted from a fire. The same failure occurred on three separate occasions. The vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The failure and current mileages were 134,179.
While changing the oil, the vehicle inadvertently caught on fire. Consumer was able to stop fire by pulling out wires where fire was coming from.
Consumer complained about the electrical system. At first, vehicle lost cruise control. Then it lost the brake lights. When taken to be serviced, it was determined that the failure was due to a blown out wiring harness connected to the cruise control.
Vehicle was parked outside the owners homeand it caught on fire. Owner contacted the manufacturer. Currently the manufacturer was recalling several similar vehicles for this problem. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall. . . .
Came out from work to go home, truck would not start, just filled the parking lot with white smoke. Cps sensor had failed with no warning. Got a ride home and next day purchased a replacement sensor. Installed it that day and this one lasted about 9 months and had to be replaced again when it failed. If this sensor were to fail while driving, lost of steering and braking would occur.
While parked with key on in accessory position windshield wipers came on by themselves. Vehicle started smoking between dash and underneath hood, and could hear a sizzling noise. Smelled rubber burning. Could not turn wipers off until pulling fuse from fuse block.
Loose wire/connection. Repair wire at connect 1027 gray wire, according to Ford.
