Speed wobble is pulling the vehicle into on coming traffic. Issue has been diagnosed by the Ford dealership as bad tires in the past. Replaced tires and 20,000 miles later the problem comes back.
“death wobble” vehicle was at highway speed when hit a bump and cause the vehicle to shake violently, causing unsafe driving conditions with lack of control.
Steering and suspension were compromised at highway speeds upon hitting a mild change in surface (such as a bridge expansion joint). The front axle bounces and shakes violently and steering is extremely difficult. Reducing speed (below highway speed while on a highway in traffic) eventually ends the violent shaking and bouncing. This problem has not been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center nor has it been inspected by others. There were also no warning lamps or messages.
I have now experienced the Ford death wobble two different times driving at high rates of speed 70-75mph that has almost caused serious accidents on state i75 and i10 in florida. My family was in the truck and I was able to save it from hitting the guard rail.
I experienced the death wooble on my 2019 f250 took truck to Ford dealership and had the steering dampner replaced as this what Ford says causes the problem but a week after it was supposed to corrected I was driving on the interstate and hit a ruff spot in the pavement and experienced the death wooble again . This was on11/04/2023 . So the part Ford says should correct the wooble didnt fix it. Still have death wooble .
Driving on the highway at speeds above 60 mph and hitting seams or bumps in the road, the front suspension starts to violently shake. It is random when it happens. The shaking causes the whole truck and steering wheel to shake uncontrollably. The only way to stop the shaking is to slow to below 40 mph. This happens at random places and times. There is no warning and the entire truck and steering wheel is fully involved in violent shaking within 3 seconds.
I was driving on I-215e in las vegas on October 16, 2023 at approximately 5:15pm, and I hit a bump in the road around 1 mile west of the I-15 interchange. I was moving at approximately 65 mph and my truck started violently shaking. I was forced to come to a nearly complete stop in rush hour traffic to stop the shaking and ultimately had to pull over to the shoulder to take a pause before being able to continue my commute. Fortunately, I was not towing my boat, but I feel that this could have been a deadly accident if I was towing. This is a major problem.
I was driving on us 59 while pulling a 30' airstream travel trailer with my 2019 f250 truck when the steering system started violently shacking preventing from controlling the vehicle. The truck and trailer veered across the center line before I could regain control. I was traveling 65 mph at the time. In may 2023, I was notified by Ford that the warranty for the steering damper had been extended as there have issues with steering system vibrating excessively preventing control of the vehicle. This need to be change to an immediate safety recall.
I was exiting off interstate when my truck suddenly and violently started shaking out of control. I thought I had a blowout at first but after I slowed down I recain control over truck and it smooth back out. This has happen a few times in the past but not as extreme as this time. I ould have lost control and wrecked if I hadn't have been already exiting off interstated. This happen on 10_14_23.
Death wobble has occurred multiple times. First in Dec 2021, truck had 15k miles. Was driving down the road and entire truck began to violently shake, was hard to keep the truck on the road without wrecking and hitting someone head on. Took to dealership and they replaced the steering stabilizer. Happened again Jan 2023 with 23k miles. Took it to dealership and they changed part again. Then in April 2023 it happened with 26k miles. Once again they changed the steering stabilizer. The most recent was last week oct 2023 with 33k miles, the truck began to have the death wobble none stop on my way home. It was so bad that I had to pull over numerous times. The 1st time it happened, it kept pulling and shaking so bad that a car had to run off the road to avoid me hitting them head on. I could not drive above 40mph the rest of the way home without it occurring over and over. After arguing about getting the problem fixed since it was no longer under original warranty, they still have my truck a week later. So far they say they have changed the steering stabilizer again, the steering stabilizer bar, and the track bar. Right before they closed they sent a message saying it was ready to go, but I wasn't able to pick it up in time. This is a horrific experience when you are traveling at highway speeds and this occurs. It is the most violent shaking I have ever experienced. Feels like the wheels are going to fall off and you cannot get it to stop until the speed drops below 40mph. That creates another huge risk if you are in heavy traffic on the interstate and you have to slow down to 30mph below the speed limit and figure out how to get to the side of the road without causing an accident with a vehicle that you cannot control the steering in. When it happens I get wheel decent control fault, hill start assist warning, antisocial brake system fault, and roll stability control fault.
Truck was purchased used in sept of 2023. Shortly after the truck started suffering from death wobble. All steering tie rod ends (all 4), track bar shocks and steering stabilizer were replaced. Tires were rotated ball joints were checked and were good. Truck still has death wobble. I'm sure this is why the truck was traded. Ford has declined to repair under TSB 18 2268 due to build date.
Massive steering wobble at interstate speed. Very dangerous. Only 29000 miles on vehicle.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving 75 mph, the front end shook violently, and the contact lost control of the steering wheel. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. After decelerating to 25 mph, the vibration ceased. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where the tires were replaced, and an alignment was completed. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
I was driving by myself with my two small dogs on the interstate at approximately 70 mph when I ran over uneven pavement. Without any warning my truck began to shake so violently the dogs became terrified and hid under the seats and I briefly lost control of the vehicle. I was certain I had blown a tire. I decelerated quickly and looked for an opportunity to move out of traffic and pull over. I am incredibly blessed that I did not cause nor was injured in an accident. My truck was completely out of control for approximately 90 seconds. As I decelerated the truck regained drivability and the violent shaking dissipated. I am unsure which actual components may have failed, but my vehicle is available for inspection at any time. My safety, that of many others traveling on I-95, and the safety of my two dogs were put at serious risk of bodily harm or fatality at the complete and total loss of control of the vehicle. The problem has not been reproduced because I had no idea what had caused it. In August of 2023 my vehicle was inspected at a Ford dealership in brainerd, mn and the only issue that was discovered was a mildly leaking rear pinion seal but the rear differential fluid was still full. The real differential fluid was checked again just prior to labor day weekend at jiffy lube in aiken, SC and also found to be full. The vehicle has been inspected by a Ford dealership in August, 2023 but not by the original manufacturer, police, or insurance representative. Absolutely zero warnings were ever issued by the Ford onboard computer. This is particularly disturbing as my onboard computer lets me know when even one tire pressure is off. There was zero symptoms of the problem prior to failure other than a typical "rough" Ford ride, which was explained to me when I purchased the vehicle, for cash, in virginia. I have since researched this phenomenon, dubbed "death wobble" and am furious that Ford currently has knowledge of this and yet refuses to act on it.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel became very hard to turn. The contact stated that the steering was turned to the right prior to the steering wheel seizing. The contact stated that the wheels failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and turned off and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle regained several steering wheel functionalities. The contact stated that the steering wheel was not fully functional and was abnormally difficult to turn however, the wheel was able to be turned. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
At less than 10,000 miles, on a curve, my truck began shacking uncontrollably, putting me in to oncoming traffic and into a ditch. I was able to control it enough and an accident didn’t occur. I contacted my salesman and he said it was known as the death wobble. He told me to bring it in. I took it in and they explained that they can put a steering damper on it, but it wouldn’t fix the problem and they needed to replace several parts. I said it’s under warranty so do it. They explained it wouldn’t be covered and the only thing Ford would pay for would be the dampener. I told them to do it. At app. 32,000 miles it has happened again. I feel that Ford is not taking responsibility and that it could cost my life, as well as others.
Driving and hit bump in road. At that time the front-end felt like it was coming out from under the truck. Almost caused a wreak but was able to stop. Found no issues but did it again when next bump was hit. Ws told it is a know issue with what is called the death wobble. How are you allowed to sell a truck with a death wobble.
Hit bump, death wobble. Hard to control truck, would not stop until came to complete stop 12650 miles on truck, hard to get out of traffic. Drove rest of trip a 45 mph won't drive truck to scary, taking to dealer for checkout,no warning.
Experienced the death wobble on the freeway. I was forced to pull over on the shoulder of the freeway. I thought I had a blow out. It scared the heck out of me. Once I reentered the freeway the wobble was gone. Now when I hit rough spots on the road the front end vibrates like it is loose.
On June 5. 2023, my family was on the way to dallas. In huntsville, TX, we were driving approximately 68mph when we hit an small divet in the roadway. The truck then began to shake violently and would not cease until we pulled off the highway to a complete stop. After checking the truck over, no apparent damage had caused the occurence. I had heard previously about a "death wobble" and after some online research, determined this is what had occured. We immediately called our local Ford (gullo Ford in conroe, TX) dealership to find that there were no "active recalls" but that if it was determined that a part was causing this, they might repair it after a $140 diagnostic fee. We scheduled an appointment and continued on our trip hoping the occurence would not happen again. In the matter of less than an hour, it occured 4 more times and I deteremined that for my safety and my families safety that we would find a local dealership and try to fins another vehicle to complete our trip. I personally did not feel safe driving the vehicle anymore until the problem was fixed. Luckily, the Ford dealer in corsicanna ( brinson Ford) had heard of the issue and was able to put a band-aid fix (free of charge) on the issue but advised it could happen again. I have video of somoe of the occurences that my wife videoed from the back seat. I'm amazed that Ford doesn't have to officially ackowledge this as a safety recall and will be following up with them as they put me, my wife, and my 10 month old baby in danger multiple times. I now am nervous to even drive my vehicle until I have a 3rd party check over the "repair" and determine it is safe to drive. From what I have heard, the part they replaced is just a temporary fix and doesn't truly address the issue at hand. Some mechanics advise re-doing multile suspension and steering components costing upwards of 5k.
On 6/4/23 I was on sr 2 in erie county ,ohio. The speed limit was 70 mph and my cruise control was set at 70 mph & traffic was fairly heavy. I passed over an expansion joint and my steering wheel started shaking violently back and forth and the vehicle was nearly uncontrollable. The other vehicles near me fortunately saw I was having trouble and luckily they were able to steer clear of me. The only way I got it to quit was to veer to the shoulder, break hard and bring it to a complete stop. After gaining my composure I cautiously pulled back on highway with my warning lights on and did 40 mph to the next exit. Slowly made my way back home not knowing if it was going to reoccur. It was amazing that I or anyone near me wasn’t injured or killed! if my wife would have been driving there is no way she would have been able to control it.
Traveling at between 65 and 70 miles an hour I hit a small bump in the road and the front suspension and steering wheel started to violently shake. Pulling me all over the road and almost off the road. Fortunately I was able to avoid other drivers. And keep it out of the ditch. I am now terrified to drive my truck. After speaking with the dealer they will repair. Using new parts identical to the ones that failed. With no guarantee that it would not happen again in the future. I feel my truck is completely unsafe to drive. Especially when there's zero warning that this could happen again in the future. Luckily no one was hurt and I avoided barely hitting other cars on the highway.
Death wobble uncontrollable shaking any time I hit a pot hole or some major bump have paid over $2500. 00 this far buy new tire rods, front tires due to wear, etc attempting to fix the problem.
Vehicle shakes very bad once I go over 65 mph. The dealer has serviced this issue twice with no resolve. During some instances, I am required to slow down and pull to the side of the highway placing myself and family endanger.
When traveling on the highway going 65 mph hit an uneven spot on highway and the truck started shaking vigorously and had to hold on tight and slow down in the middle of the highway. No safety lights came on. I have an appointment at a dealer to look at it. A goggle search on the problem names it as death wobble.
When I was traveling down the road when hitting a bump my steering started rattling uncontrollably. It felt as if my truck was going to steer off and hit the side wall. My safety was put at risk and others not knowing where my vehicle was going to go on the road. This is not just a problem with my vehicle either. Thousands and thousands of forums online Ford customer have experienced the same problem time and time again since 2005. Brand new $90k truck rolling off the lot with Ford knowing this is a problem. I just bought this truck a week ago. I should not be spending $48k on a vehicle and already need to dump money into it when this is purely a manufacture problem. There is absolutely no warning that this problem is going to happen either. It can happen anytime any day. If you aren’t holding on tight enough you may just lose control. So you better be ready at all times when driving this vehicle.
I am experiencing the “death wobble” at highway speeds.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph and after driving over a bump in the road, the vehicle experienced a "death wobble" causing the driver to lose control of the steering and crash into a garbage truck. During the crash, the front end of the vehicle was severely damaged but the air bag did not deploy. The driver sustained a head injury and later received medical treatment which revealed multiple strokes had occurred during the crash. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The contact indicated that prior to the crash the steering arm had been replaced on three separate occasions. The failure mileage was 25,000.
Driving on freeway at approx 55mph when sudden severe, violent shaking and almost uncontrollable steering began. I did not brake, but took my foot off the accelerator and held tightly to steering wheel which listed to the left. Incident lasted approximately 10 seconds and then returned to a normal drive.
When traveling on the highway at about 60-65 mph and hit a bump. The front end started to shake violently. I believe this is know as the f250 death wobble. I was able to slow down and it stopped, but almost went into the jersey barrier. I went to the Ford dealer I bought the truck from and they have ordered parts to fix this issue. (hopefully). The mileage on the truck is 20,500. This occurred on 3/21/23. There were no warning lights or other symptoms before this incident.
Death wobble. At approximately 20,000 miles it began to experience the 'death wobble' routinely. An internet search uncovered the problem. The vehicle now has 20,400 miles on it and routinely goes into the wobble on the highway - (3 times on 04mar23 driving from orange county, CA to barstow, CA. ) the wobble does not stop until you pull over and come to a complete stop.
My truck has the death wobble. It's is very scary and I have almost had several accidents because of it. It has shook so violently when I have hit 40 mph even. It usually happens when I go 60 mph. I have not taken it to the dealership yet. No warning lights are on either.
My 2019 f250 super duty has severe shaking in the front end also known as the death wobble I read that Ford put out a release for any 2017 to 2019 under the customer satisfaction guarantee that my truck should be repaired but when I type in the VIN it does not say that I qualify for that repair even though I have the exact year and the exact problems associated with the recall can somebody explain to me why my truck is not covered for these fixes?.
I experienced the Ford "death wobble" I had $1200 worth of repairs done on steering and suspension parts. 10,000 miles and 7 months later I am experiencing the same problems again. This is a real safety concern because you loose all control of the vehicle at speeds over 50 miles per hour. How long before this problem kills someone? the first time I experienced this problem the vehicle dragged me accross 3 lanes of traffic at 70 mph.
Ford “death wobble” on the super duty trucks. The damper. When traveling over 60+ mph and the truck hits a bump/groove the truck wobbles and the steering is hard to control. The truck has to come to a slower rate or a complete stop for it to stop wobbling. It could cause an accident with other vehicles if you aren’t experienced. It is at a dealership to get fixed. This is an ongoing problem with Ford super duties and Ford is not standing behind their product. I do not feel like this is a customers responsibility. No warning was given. It is very dangerous.
