Death wobble!! was going home from work, and there are some bumps in the road and my truck steering wheel started to shake very badly. Had a hard time keeping my truck in control. Had to pull onto the shoulder of the road and come to almost a complete stop before it stopped. It happened a few times before where the steering wheel would shake some, then stop on its own, but not that time. If a death wobble causes a accident or worse yet, someone gets killed, Ford will have a law suit on their hands. 😨 this happened on a highway (hwy 59 in fort bend county in texas. On a straight way going about 60 - 65 mph.
While towing a 5th wheel trailer on the 10e bound we hit a rough patch of road. The truck and steering wheel began to shake violently to the point where I thought we had blown a tire. I was able to slow the truck down and at about 30mph the shaking stopped and then I pulled safely off the road. I exited the vehicle to investigate and there appeared to be nothing wrong with the truck. I called the Ford dealership and a service tech said "it sounds like death wobble". That was the first I had ever heard of death wobble. We were able to limp the truck home at 40mph and then it went straight to the dealership. They had the truck for 2 weeks because the part was on backorder. This is a ridiculous situation that should never happen and I can only hope never happens to anyone else.

Spradley barr Ford dealership in cheyenne, wy said they need to replace the steering dampener but the part is on backorder with 30,000 trucks ahead of mine. It's not safe to drive, and I have no estimated time when I might get it back. Dealership will not return my phone calls requesting a loaner vehicle either.

I would like to alert you to a very serious issue that is occurring on thousands of late model Ford f250 pickup trucks. The issue is being called the death wobble. " the problem I am having is when the vehicle encounters pot holes or other irregularities such as railroad tracks, it will lose steering control which results in the steering wheel shaking violently. Ford is very much aware of the problem, but refuses to issue a recall. Rather than accepting the problem as a design defect, they apparently are attempting to blame it on worn steering parts thereby treating it as a maintenance item, much like a requirement to change the oil every 5,000 miles. However, in reality this is not the case. My new vehicle was only a few months old with only 3,000 miles when I encountered a rough section of highway going around a corner and the steering wheel nearly cam free from my hands and started violently shaking making me feel almost certain I was going to lose control of the vehicle. When I let off the gas, the shaking started to subside and I regained control currently, the issue continues to appear whenever I encounter poor pavement conditions, in which I immediately slow down to minimize the death wobble. you can very easily validate my claim my doing a google search on Ford f250 death wobble. as I have just recently learned, countless others are experiencing the same problem as I've contacted several local Ford dealer service departments and learned they are very much aware of the problem. However, they claim the parts are on back-order. I also learned that the few vehicles that have been repaired are receiving a steering damper to solve the problem. This is not a solution, it only lessens the affect.

Center lane of interstate at 70mph when crossing a bridge expansion joint the steering wheel began shaking uncontrollably and I was unable to steer until slowing to 30mph. General driving at freeway speeds drove over highway overpass that had a slight bump. After vehicle suspension reacted to the bump, it went into a violent steering wheel shake that would not stop until the truck was pulled to the side of the road and stopped. Violent shake also happens when applying the brakes from higher speeds to a stop at random times. The recent occurrence happened while ramping onto a highway and applying brakes to negotiate a curve. Truck was checked by dealership recently and stabilizer was replaced but shake still exists at times, however a violent episode has not occurred yet again.

While driving approximately 50 to 60 mph, after hitting a slight indent or bump in the road the front end of the truck and steering wheel begins shaking violently and uncontrollably. I had to apply maximum braking and bring the truck to a low speed for the shaking to stop and gain control. The first incident started when the truck had around 21,000 miles on it. It has happened 4 different times on highways, express ways & regular roads & different speeds. The steering of the truck has become very loose due to the violent shaking. It seems like the episodes are happening more frequently. I have contacted our local Ford dealers about the issue. The first dealer told me they were not aware of any issues.
