Ford F-250 owners have reported 169 problems related to body (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford F-250 based on all problems reported for the F-250.
Vehicle: 2024 Ford F-250 component: structure – sunroof/moonroof summary: while driving at highway speed (~75 mph) on I-75, the twin-panel moonroof suddenly exploded outward with a loud bang. All glass was expelled upward/outward; no glass fell into the cabin or onto the sunshade. No vehicles nearby, no overpasses, no impact evidence on paint/roof, no strike point visible on remaining glass edges. Vehicle has a documented history of three prior dealership repairs/adjustments for leaks and alignment issues with the sunroof assembly at sam galloway Ford. Ford has denied warranty coverage twice, citing "radiating cracks" and claiming tempered glass cannot explode outward without external influence, despite zero physical evidence of impact and despite the prior misalignment repairs being a known cause of stress fractures in tempered glass. This is a serious safety defect — the explosive failure at highway speed created a sudden open roof and loud detonation that could have caused loss of vehicle control.

The drivers side door latch does not allow the driver to exist the vehicle as the door lock on the drivers door has only worked intermittently. When the lock doesn’t unlock on the drivers door, I have to use the passenger or rear doors to enter and/or exit the vehicle. The drivers door won’t even allow me to manually unlock the door using the latch—when I grip the latch tight enough to grab the door lock pin it cannot even be pulled up manually, it’s as if it is being pulled back down with heavy force. This is a significant hazard in the event of an emergency as I cannot exit the vehicle. The truck only has -7,000 miles on it and is in like new condition. This began back in August of 2024, but then stopped for a while and returned intermittently, but now seems to be a regular occurrence. This need to be addressed by Ford ASAP.

Noted strange "thumping" sound in truck. Took to certified local mechanic who has worked on our vehicles since 2016. This truck has just over 117,000 miles, I am the original owner (ordered while stationed in afghanistan) and there has never been an accident, there has been no reason for removal of the body from the frame unless the Ford dealership who repaired the missing wire harness when the truck was less than 90 days old had to remove the truck bed. Inspection of vehicle noted the bolts holding the body to the frame were missing. Vehicle is currently being repaired. The risk is the body could have come off the frame and potentially caused bodily or property damage. I contacted Ford but have not received any feedback other than the call center laughing at me for the situation. There were no warning lights on the dash nor codes given to my scanning tool by the vehicle. Mechanic stated this is the third f-series of this generation they have seen this year with the exact same problem. Truck cannot be moved due to safety concerns, locked out/tagged out of service. Repairs will cost approximately $2,500 including time and materials.

Fraudulently sold vehicle from janovich auto in omaha, ne. That does not have correct or proper documentation on vehicles history. Dealership purchased vehicle in new york. And sold it to me in nebraska. With showing me history and suspect them bring it to nebraska with proper legal documention.
I purchased this truck new in 2013 and it has only been serviced by Ford, except for an air lift suspension kit install to allow load leveling when towing. Low miles: 54484 actual. No collision damage, original paint. Date of repair:06/25/2025. Jenkins Ford ro#[xxx]. My truck has a supercab (extended cab) with short rear doors that open to the rear. Both of these rear doors failed within 5 minutes of each other. Specifically, the inside door handles and opening levers on the forward facing side of the doors failed. This is absolutely a safety hazard because a child, senior, handicapped person, pet, etc. , would be trapped from making an emergency exit in case of accident or fire. A more athletic person may be able to pull themselves over the from bench seat to exit, but still delaying the exit and dangerous. There were no warnings to alert anyone of the failures. Jenkins Ford (crystal river, FL) diagnosed the problem and made the costly repair. Both door cables were replaced, no warranty. Cost: $1558. 80 I called Ford USA customer relations (800) 392-3673 at 1:16pm edt on 06/24/2025. C/s rep "kisha" said Ford would not assist in any goodwill for repair of this safety item. I researched this problem online an apparently, this is a common failure due to plastic parts holding the cables. I acknowledge that this vehicle is over 10 years old, but feel that this is a safety item Ford should stand behind. People keep vehicles longer these days and mine has been garaged, meticulously maintained by Ford, and has extremely low miles. Jenkins Ford did a very professional repair and I'm very happy with this dealer. The Ford motor company should be required to recall and repair this problem. Electronic tailgate randomly opens while driving and causes significant safety issue while hauling materials. Has happened multiple times.
Door lock actuator on passenger side door has stopped working. Cannot unlock or lock the passenger side door from drivers side or outside of passenger side. From inside, driver must reach across vehicle by undoing seat belt, usually with car running, sometimes with transmission in drive, to manually unlock passsenger door for passenger. This has been a common complaint on Ford forums. It is evidently affecting many trucks. Please put out a recall on this problem. Thanks.

The drivers door power door lock fails to operate either to unlock the vehicle or to lock it. This is a safety risk as the power door lock should automatically lock the door once the vehicle reaches a certain speed to help doors remain shut in roll over accidents. Automatically locking the door also provides some security to occupants for carjacking. This problem first started when the door lock actuator failed to work in freezing weather at approximately 19,000 miles. The dealer was unwilling to repair it under warranty do to not being able to duplicate the condition despite video evidence. The problem has progressed to where it now no longer functions at all. This is not an uncommon issue as I have spoke with others who have had the same failure. Previous model year trucks have has customer gotten extended warranty from Ford to cover the lock malfunctions. Customer satisfaction program 20m04. . Read more...

On or about [xxx], [xxx] I contacted Ford customer relations about the roof installed molding rear mounting points had broken apart on my vehicle (both sides) and the molding is lifting up. Advised that if could become dislodged during operation. Received a case # [xxx]. After several calls, I was told no action will be taken on their part because the vehicle over 3yrs old. I contacted the local Ford dealership (lafayette Ford) and was told by one of the addon tech that it's a known issue and that Ford currently carries the newly designed replacement part. He spoke to manager in the service department . He then sttn that I would need to get a case number, I told him that I'd had one and provided it to him. More phone calls made and they will not change their position. On 11/1/2024 I was told that the case was closed almost immediately after it was opened. Ms tara sttd that the supervisor was going to request that the case be reopened. 11/18/2024, I called back because of no response. Ms jaclyn sttn, not covered, Ford not doing anything. I don't know how long or when they broke. The roof has never been used to carry anything. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Our 2108, Ford F-250, lariat model with extended cab, the sunroof brackets (plastic) broke and the sunroof can not be opened or closed, and became loose. The brackets that hold the glass in place are made of plastic and they deteriorated to the point where they would no longer hold the glass in place. This is possibly a safety concern as the glass may detach from the roof and cause injury in the cab, or possibly fly off and impact oncoming vehicles or vehicles behind the f250. These brackets should not be made of plastic due to the very large glass sunroofs weight. This is a known problem as indicated by many others on youtube. Com, and other online website postings. Our f250 was taken into our local Ford dealership service department and upon inspection the tech indicated that both sides of the plastic arm brackets were broken and the window was non-operable. As per technicians official vehicle report it required replacement of fl3z 1651070 e :guide. Cost was $945. 47 to replace plastic brackets which will more than likely break again after minimal strain due to the heavy weight of the glass sunroof.

The black plastic "roof rails" on the roof of my truck began cracking several months ago - I reported this to the dealership and just got excuses. I showed this to my dealership again on Friday and they said they would look into it. Today while driving the truck the entire roof rail came off and flew into traffic on the highway. . Luckily no one hit it or did it cause a crash, etc. However when I did look this issue up on the internet it seems Ford already has an active recall for this type of problem on another model car, however google searching the issue with my truck I found hundreds of complaints on different bulleting boards, and the other problem is apparently Ford is not covering the replacement of this part, and the only way to replace it is to remove the rear window (which has also resulted in many shattered windows) Ford did a recall for a similar issue with the Ford explorer - the Ford reference number for this recall is 21s22. I fell this is an issue that should be addressed and how Ford plans to fix this as I even purchased an extended "platinum warranty" from Ford on this vehicle - - yet now they are refusing to do anything I dont have to pay hundreds of dollars to fix or risk shattering my windows.

The cab roof clearance lights leak water when it rains. The water leaks into the electronics in the overhead console and down the a-pillar. Dealer advises it is a nonwarranty issue under extended warranty and a commonly known issue on these. Trucks.
With ambient outdoor temperatures below freezing the front right drivers door latch/lock is frozen and not operable during at least the last 5 days. Also, the manual locking mechanism is unable to be pulled to unlocked at it sits flush with the top of door panel leaving the door not operable. It is clearly frozen as the latch/lock starts working after the truck is allowed to warmup after significant run time (usually more than 30 minutes). ***NHTSA something needs to be done with these latches. I previously owned a 2017 Ford F-250 that experienced the same freezing lock/latch issues. Ford supposedly revised the installation and some minor parts for these locks/latches. I cannot fathom how has been allowed to continue and no recall has been issued. Door latches keep doors closed, under the right conditions the 2017 super duty I had would not allow the doors to latch closed. I fear this will be the same on this truck.
My vista sunroof on my 2017 f250 super duty platinum made a popping noise and failed to open when I attempted to open it. It became bound to the rear glass which in turn commenced to fracture across the entire piece. Fortunately no one was injured as this glass could have dropped large shards into the cab. I an concerned that this could still present a problem when driving and is an imminent safety hazard. I found out that this is a common issue that Ford is aware of on the f series trucks with the panoramic roofs and it is due to the rail/track system fracturing on the front glass (sunroof) and will not replace/repair it because it is not under warranty. This a safety hazard for passengers due to a manufacturer defect and poor design and needs to be replaced immediately to avoid any risks.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-250. The contact stated that upon using his remote key fob to unlock the doors, the doors failed to unlock. The contact had to manually unlock the doors. The contact then stated that the electrical started to malfunction, the a. C. Unit and the radio and the bsm light failed to operate as design. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician noticed that the rear passenger side taillight was filled with 3inches of water and the bliss module had corroded due to the water intrusion caused by the tail lamp seal and the taillight assembly needed to be replaced. The water was drained however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to call the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 51,997.
I am writing to submit a formal complaint concerning a persistent and costly issue with the 2021 Ford F-250 and models from previous and newer years, specifically related to the roof molding. It has come to my attention that numerous owners of these vehicles, including myself, are facing significant financial burdens due to a design flaw that necessitates the replacement of the roof molding. The core of the issue lies in the fact that replacing the roof molding is not a straightforward task; it requires the removal of the rear window, which significantly escalates the cost and complexity of what should be a simple repair. The trim pieces alone are priced at approximately $125 per side, not including labor costs, which can be substantial given the necessity to remove and reinstall the rear window. Given the frequency and consistency of these complaints across multiple owners and vehicles, it is evident that this is a widespread defect rather than isolated incidents. The financial impact on consumers is considerable, making it an urgent matter that I believe warrants a recall. As a safety and regulatory body, the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) has the responsibility to ensure that manufacturers like Ford address such defects that not only impose undue financial strain on consumers but may also pose potential safety risks associated with improper installations or failures of the molding in question. I urge the NHTSA to initiate an investigation into this matter and to consider mandating a recall to correct the roof molding issue at the manufacturer’s expense. This would alleviate the financial burden on current owners and ensure that future models are free from this costly defect. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and action on this issue.
I was getting on I-95 n from benson, nc with speed limit of 70mph. While I was still accelerating and just merged in traffic, going about 65-70mph, my 2014 f250 started doing the death wobble. The section of highway I was on has no shoulder or anywhere to pull off because they are doing construction on the shoulder and have concrete blocks maybe 6inches past the line. So I had no choice but to put on my brakes hard and slow down until the shaking stopped, which was bout 15-20mph. I’m very lucky I wasn’t rear ended or in an accident because of the death wobble. My 12 week old baby girl was also with me in the truck at the time.

Noticed that my floor is getting soaked for no reason. After looking online and reading about others that are experiencing the same issues I found out that is was the cabin pressure vent that was leaking. The cabin pressure vent is found between the truck bed and cab. They are plastic and since the plastic clips lose tightness over the years I did not notice a slow leak in the back. Now when pulling up all of the carpet I notice I have black mold all under the carpet where my 3 year old rides. This is a huge health concern since black mold is unhealthy and not noticeable if this is a slow leak. This seems to be an issue or many people with these trucks. This is a reoccurring issue since many people had this issue starting back in 2007. I am out of the warranty time and now I had to replace my entire carpet all while my truck has been unusable for the last few weeks.
Rear window across back of cab shattered for no apparent reason while traveling down the road. Contacted dealership and Ford warranty and they said this was not a warranty issue. The truck only has 13,000 miles. I feel this is a defective product .
This is what happen Thursday night to my truck sitting in my drive way. My entire wiring harness on the drivers side was under water. . I drove it to the dealership and it was still pouring water from the rear plugs. I have rubber floor mats and wouldn't have even noticed the issue if I didn't pull them to clean the truck. There are tons of truck having this issue. To fix it properly the bed has to be taken off the truck. The insurance company's total cars for electrical being covered in water. This is a recall issue Ford surly needs to address and fix. Go look at this video fast forward to the 4 minute mark. Https://youtu. Be/9azod47j8km.
The driver's side rear door locks freeze, and once the door is opened it will not stay closed/latched. I have a video of the door not latching shut, and bouncing back open when attempting to close it. This is the same issue as outlined in customer satisfaction program 18n03; however, the dealer and Ford corporate advised my VIN is not included on the recall for this issue. When the door lock is frozen and the door will not shut, the automatic running board on the driver's side will not close and the light on the bottom of the driver's mirror and inside the vehicle stays on. If you hold the door shut with your hand or put a ratchet strap on it to hold it in place, the running board closes and the lights go off. This is unsafe for passengers of the rear of the vehicle as the door will not latch when frozen. This issue has been witnessed by the local dealership, but they tell me the VIN is not on the recall list for this issue. Attached pictures show the door closed but running board out and mirror side light on, holding door shut and running board in and side light off, and door ajar when trying to close it and it not latching.
The tail gate of my f250 drops inadvertently. It dropped while I was hauling a trailer and was severely damaged. Ford is repairing this damage and has replace the latch and wiring harness to prevent it from happening again however 1 day after the recall repairs were completed, the tail came down on its own yet again. The fix did not work. I notified the dealership and they said they would notify Ford.
On 8-22-2022 upon arriving at the work site my australian shepherd jumped from the cab of the truck catching her left front leg in the hole in the running board resulting in a severe compound fracture resulting in surgery.
While I was driving on the highway my hood popped up thankfully the safety catch held it but it was very unnerving I haven't been able to recreate the problem.
The frame rails that hold and support the bed/box rotted prematurely. Box could fly off while driving and cause accident.

The tailgate opens intermittently even after the original recall was done twice and the cab button was replaced and the tailgate actuator was replaced. It happens months apart but does happen. I have taken my truck into the dealer to report my tailgate opening by itself but they said there is no recall. Recently it opened while pulling a trailer and it has caused damage. The dealer is still telling me that they do not have any options to fix it and are not willing to pay for the fix, even though they did one fix once before. This is a well documented issue reported by many people on the internet. I believe there was a recall for this on this model truck but my VIN was excluded for some reason and it should not have been. This occurs typically when you come to a stop. In my case we were pulling out of a driveway, turning right and because the tailgate dropped without our knowledge then it crushed the tailgate into the trailer. I reported this to the dealer on 6/19/2020 where they did no repairs. I reported it again on Jan 6th 2021 where they did modify the wiring harness and added jumper pi, per 19s48b. However this repair did not work and the tailgate continues to randomly open.
