3 Steering Failed problem of the 2017 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

On numerous occasions, running across any road irregularities such as potholes, bridge or road expansion joints at 50 mph or above causes shaking in the front end so bad that the truck needs to be almost competely stopped to regain control. We have almost been in rear end accidents due to the loss of control and slowing in traffic. First attempt at a repair was at 2400 miles when the shaking was so bad, it caused the adaptive steering to fail. The adaptive steering/steering wheel assembly and steering column needed to be replaced due to damage. Truck has spent over 75 days total in the shop in 25000 miles is still not repaired and dealer has no estimate of a repair time. Our friends refuse to ride in the truck and my wife is so afraid to drive it, she avoids any roads where she will exceed 50 mph. We have repeatedly asked to have the truck repurchased, yet Ford has refused, so we have retained legal representation to pursue a lemon law suit.

Failure Date: 04/16/2014

[xxx] the steering box constantly fails. Becomes loose inside. Vehicle wanders severely. This is an ongoing problem since vehicle was purchased new. I'm putting in the 3rd steering gear. Ford mechanics would not consider the box being bad. It was my fault. Excuses were ball joints, keep them greased. I greased it once a week prior to it being in the dealership. As it wouldn't stay on the road. Then it was the nature of the vehicle. They all do it. What? it has new moog ball joints. So that's out. Very well greased. So that's out. Being the 3rd box in 89k, just isn't right. Vehicle is stock. No lifts, no oversize tires. I did a web search. Multiple folks are having the same problem from 01 to 08 f series. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Traveling approx 60 mph, towing a 7,000 lb 30 ft travel trailer. Slowed to make an exit and as I started the turn, there wes no power steering assist. Manual steering was still working (with extremely high effort). Normally, I would expect it to be a pump failure, but the pump was still fine. . . . The valve in the steering gear box failed. The power steering fluid was severely contaminated with the ground-up remnants of the steering gear internals. Making the repair myself, I found it very difficult to get a replacement unit, as all the places I contacted reported "none on the shelf. . . . . We've sold a ton of them. ".
