Headlights Problems of Ford F-350

Tl the contact owns a 2019 Ford F-350. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 19v808000 (exterior lighting). The vehicle was taken to john sang Ford located at (195 upper river rd, gallipolis, OH 45631) where the recall repair was performed. The contact stated that the headlights were dimmed. After the remedy was performed, the contact experienced low visibility while driving at night without warning. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000. The VIN was not available.

The headlights as designed with daytime lights installed are very bright and blinding to oncoming vehicles and vehicles in front of these trucks. They are as bright as a normal car's high beams. This is on the new Ford super duty trucks, not f150.

This defect applies to all 2017 and 2018 model year Ford f-250, F-350, f-450, and f-550 trucks with standard halogen headlights. As equipped, these trucks illuminate four replaceable bulbs low beams, and four replaceable bulb high beams, both in excess of the maximum of 2 total specified in s10. 15. 1: "a system must provide in total not more than two upper beams and two lower beams and must incorporate not more than two replaceable light sources in each headlamp. ".

On March 3rd, 2016 I started driving from PA to nd on I-90/94 during the day with the headlights on. There was light snow and drizzle and somewhere along the route the exterior lights failed and would not come back on. As I continued on my trip and about 3 to 4 hours later after driving in dry weather the lights started working again. The same thing happened the following day as I continued between chicago and nd. Once again it was wet weather and again the exterior lights failed and would not come on for several hours after driving in dry weather again. Fortunately I was driving in daylight hours instead of night time but if it had been during the night and the lights failed it probably would have caused a serious accident.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-350. The contact stated the headlights became cloudy and caused the lights to appear dim. The contact was having a hard time driving at night. There are toxic fumes coming through the defroster when it is turned on. Which is distracting the driver on the road. Manufacturer had been contacted by consumer. The consumer purchased a carbon monoxide detector in which the vehicle registered 40 ppm. As the weather turned cold, the consumer was unable to use the defroster or heater due to the diesel fumes from the exhaust system. The consumer suffered nose bleeds and his mother-in-law had become ill while riding in the vehicle. Two dealerships stated that they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. The engine died while going down hill to a stop at times, the vehicle stuck in 4x4 low, driver door molding was coming a loose, head light was inoperative at times and the switch was replaced, the rear door did not line properly and leaked air therefore both rear door upper seals were adjusted.

The steering was hard to turn when the brakes were applied. There was play in steering wheel. Can be moved up and down. Dealer found some play in the tilt latch and adjusted the fluid level. However no problem found. Consumer was afraid camper could be knocked off jacks when backing truck up to 3,000 pound camper. Headlamps dim/discolored. Melted connectors and headlamp assembly replaced.
