2004 Ford F-450 had rotting oil pan. It was determined by Ford that the cause was from "environmental issues. " vehicle was only used on-road at all times and there was no reason after four years that the oil pan should have rotted out because of "environmental issues. " we are located in connecticut, nowhere near salt water. It cost our company $1,500 to replace the pan and related items. We did have a three-year extended warranty on the vehicle; however, we feel an oil pan should not "rot" after four years of normal wear and tear on the vehicle.

Fuel tank delamination leading to blown engine x2 and fuel pump replacement x2. I use no additives and buy only commercial fuel almost exclusively in northeast georgia.
Truck with about 18,000 miles by original owner failed on 22 June 2008; new motor required after lengthy contacts between dealer and Ford motor company; as of July 28, 2008, truck is still in shop and fmc not cooperative.
I've had two spark plugs blow out in the last five hundred mile in my 2000 F-450. I've got to say its a real hazard to be hauling a load, suddenly loose drastic power and be rattled by the abrupt spark plug explosion. Not only that, but the fuel rail is right there. In fact the second spark plug I had eject made a series of explosions while I was traveling up hill on a very busy narrow road pulling my chipper. Both times I smelt a strong and consistent odor of fuel, another hazard. Both times the truck hesitated and attempted staling while in travel. The Ford dealership tells me this is a common occurrence, and say Ford know about the problem but doesn't care. Experiencing this first hand; twice now, I can tell you this issue is with out a doubt the most hazardous unprovoked vehicle
hazard I've ever encountered.

1998(and others) Ford e-superduty v-10 triton motor(especially used in r. V. 's) will blow-out it's 4th or 5th spark plug, under pressure from slight inclines or hills, dut to the manfacturer using aluminum heads mated to a cast iron block. In some cases, the blown plug will tear into the fuel line alongside, causing the raw fuel to ignite. Ford denies this problem, but has a fix for $3,000 per head($6,000) for both heads to repair.
