1 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 05/24/2019

I have a 2012 Ford Fiesta which has had nothing but problems over the course of the time I've had the car. On the Thursday before the memorial day weekend I put the car into reverse and the car wouldn't stop. We were going very slow and thank goodness didn't hit anything. We hit a curb behind us that stopped the car. I shifted into drive and it moved forward. We took it into the dealership that next morning and they replaced the brake master cylinder and the clutch. I've done multiple warranty claims & I've had ongoing trans/clutch issues that finally resulted with as replacement last month. Now the car is no longer jerking and slipping but it's slower with decreased gas mileage. I've had a sync issue/ radio electrical issue and took it in multiple times, it's still not fixed. Recently the radio/sync completely fails but it's intermittent. Now I'm being told that because the sync/radio issue is intermittent, I have to wait until it's not working completely to take it in. In the last 6 weeks the car has been in twice for brake issues, (I took it back twice in the same day + trans replacement) then again two weeks later. I'm on the third time to the dealership over the sync system in the last year, that is still not fixed.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

I leased and then purchased my vehicle brand new 8 years ago. At around 3,000 miles, I began having braking issues. I would go to break and the pedal would almost touch the floor before the vehicle would stop. It almost caused me to get into an accident so I took it immediately to the dealership. It took me 3 separate visits to get it properly diagnosed and repaired by Ford. Turned out, the vehicle had a failed master cylinder and had to have a new one installed. Now, 7 years and about 84k miles later, I am having the same issue with the brakes. I am unable to safely stop the car, especially at high speeds. I have always maintained my vehicle well. I took it to two different mechanics that stated the master cylinder once again needs to be replaced but stated it is incredible rare for this to fail in any vehicle. They were both surprised that it had been replaced once before after so few miles. This is a major safety issue and has been reoccurring on the vehicle. I called Ford directly and they stated until the part is officially recalled, they are offering not concession or warranty to repair the part. This part rarely fails in vehicles and last typically at least 125k miles. I will now have had two in less than 87k miles. It is not a repair you can avoid fixing either as it will not allow the vehicle to safely stop once the issue begins.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

My Ford Fiesta is a good automobile. However there is a problematic design flaw in the brake lever travel and size and placement of the brake pedal. I have a size 12 foot and there is inadequate space for proper clearance between the brake pedal and the accelerator. Many times my foot must swing completely to the right and hit the center console to clear the brake pedal in stop and go traffic to accelerate the car. Also the brake lever to the master cylinder has way too much travel for such a small automobile. When depressing the brake pedal in a emergency stop the brake pedal depresses past a point where the top of my shoe touches the actual lever arm that the pedal is attached to, thereby resulting in unpredicted sudden increase in braking. The brake pedal itself is too small in width for big feet. I also managed one time while braking to touch the accelerator at the same time. Older Ford cars and trucks required only to tap the brake a small distance before complete stop. Why did this change? I have checked the brake level fluids and they are as specified in the owners manual. I feel when using the brake pedal it should not depress past the point of the accelerator pedal if they are located so close. This situation makes one conscious constantly about foot placement while driving. This complaint should be e-mailed to the engineering department at Ford ASAP so they can take corrective action immediately. I would not want to be responsible for not reporting this in the event someone was not acknowledged of this engineering flaw.
