Car Stall problems of the 2000 Ford Focus - part 2

While driving 55 mph on the highway vehicle stalled without warning. Driver was able to pull off the highway. Then, vehicle was towed to the dealer for analysis.

On October 10th 2003 I was driving in the Ford Focus 2000 wagon from new york city to cleveland, OH, about 500 miles. It drove well for about 300 miles, but started to choke and sputter on hills, like it was about to stall. I was hoping I would make it to cleveland for repairs, but it stalled out on me going 65 miles an hour 60 miles outside of cleveland. I was able to restart, and limped into the nearest town and found a Ford dealer in ashtabula OH. He said it was the fuel filter and repaired it. It drove fine for the rest of journey into cleveland. But I then headed to new york city a few days later, and again after 200 miles, it started sputtering on hills. Then outside of binghamton, NY it stalled again. I again restarted, and terrified of a fatal accident, I called for road side assistance from verizon wireless. They got a tow truck to get me to a garage, but they were closed. The next morning, I waited for them to diagnose the problem and repair the car, but they were unable to replicate the stalling problem. I drove the rest of the way into new york city terrified, and almost stalled out at the foot fo the george washington bridge. It was after 5:00 pm so the dealership was closed that I bought the car from. So I am planning to have them look at it. But they said that unless they can see the problem, they can't fix it. I also called Ford and they said they never heard of this problem. Which I later found out is a major problem with this car, and there is an active investigation underway at NHTSA. I am hoping to get by under the lemon law in NY, but fear that the dealership will claim there are no problems with my car. Thank you for listening to my complaint.

The car stalls in turns while downshifting; going up hills and at highway speeds. It begins hesitation while accelerating; and after several hesitations it will stall out much like it is running out of fuel. The problem began the first year I bought the vehicle and only when the car was running with under half a tank of fuel but now occurs even with a full tank. Twice I have mentioned it to Ford technicians, twice test results came back negative. The Ford technicians have been unable to locate the problem and the car is no longer a reliable source of transportation.

Car lost power and stalled out on highway 6 times beginning in may 2003, including 1 time needing tow. Fuel filter replaced. Island Ford of staten island will not check car without fee as it was "3 days past warranty. " serviced 3 times by 2 different independent repair shops with electronic diagnostic certification without finding problem. Vehicle passed nys emissions recently.

My 2000 Focus stalled out several times during the summer of 2002. It stopped when I bought a new battery. No problems during the cooler months. I took it in for the battery cabel recall a few months ago and all was fine. Now that the temperatures are hot again here in az, the car has started to stall out again. It totally died while driving in traffic! after the stalling in traffic, I had to let it sit for a few minutes and then I got it started enough to pull over onto the shoulder. I had to pull over about 3 more times before I made it home. I had to turn the a/c off or it would have stalled even more. This happens almost every day if I'm driving in the afternoon in town. This has been going on for about 2 weeks so far!.

I drive a 200o Ford Focus lx. I have had it stall out several times on me under normal driving conditions. At first I thought it might be me leaving it out of gear or something, but then I read a article in the newspaper stating that Ford Focus's have a problem with this. I brought my car to the dealership and had them look at it and they found nothing wrong with it. Has anyone else had this porblem? I dont remeber where I was the article but I wish that I did. . . I have found several related articles about Ford cars with the same problems, but mine was not listed. I am trying my best to get it fixed but when I take it in, theres no problem so they cant fix it! I will go and do anything in my powers, goto local papers, news stations, ect. . . Car stalling out for no reason. . . Sputtering in the engine, causing no reaction when I step on the gas.

Over the past three months the engine has been "cutting" off with no notice and has increased in frequency as time goes by. I have had the vehicle back to the dealer at least three times and was told they could find nothing wrong with the car. I was told to call the tow service the next time it stalls and not to restart the car. The vehicle is driven in city traffic and I told them I was not going to block rush hour traffic and risk being rearended to which I was told there was nothing they could do. I called the Ford 800 number twice and was told that they stand behind their dealers and if they say there is nothing wrong and that they could not duplicate the problem there was nothing they could do when I asked the Ford "talking head" if Ford was going to pay for my funeral when the call stalled on an interstate exit ramp and was rearended by a mac truck I was told that I would have to contact my insurance company. A friend of the family did some research on the internet and forwarded to me. To my surprise and contrary to the impression I received from the local Ford dealer and the Ford 800 number this stalling problem was not unknown and could be dangerous. Below is listed the latest cases of stalling.

Ford Focus 2000 sputters and lunges on right hand turns. Sometimes stalling and dying. This is a potential safety hazard if your car dies right in the middle of the road.

2002 Ford Focus started missing, lost power, almost stalled; fortunately I was only two blocks from my mechanic. Malfunction light illuminated during the process. The diagnostic code -p0300 through p0304. The technical service bulletin (1-4-13) required rebuilding the cylinder head assembly and replacing all of the valves and related gaskets. There easily could have been an accident if I were on an interstate or in traffic.

Twice in the past 3 months, my vehicle stalled and would not start again. After having it towed to the dealership, waiting there overnight, the car started and they couldn't find a problem with it.

My 2000 Ford Focus stalled on three seperate occassions. Two times occuring on 2/13/03. I had the car towed to dealership service dept. They told me it was fixed that day. Same exact problem occured next dayon way to work. (only drove car home from dealership day before) drove straight to dealership and told same problem occured. (7am in morning) they called at 5:30pm to tell me they could not duplicate problem and wanted to keep car over weekend. On Monday they told me they could not duplicate the problem, had test drove it 83 miles, and returned vehicle with no repair made. (other than upcoming recall I hadn't been notified of yet).

My 2000 Ford Focus has had problems starting 2 months after I purchased it. It's been in 6 times for excessive brake noise and or squealing. The door hinges were squeeking and had to be replaced due to misalignment. . It took 5 times to determine this. Weather strip molding has been replaced due to falling apart around the headlights. The cd player/stereo was replaced with a new factory model when cd player would not work properly. The "new" model was replaced yet again due to coding seen and no numbers in the window digital area. The fuel pump was replaced after stalling more than 50 miles from home. . . Still does not run up to performance. Fuel area reworked again. Would not start due to battery cable. Ford needs to discontinue this model until they can fix the problems it has with it. They also need to get all Focus models off the road, they are safety hazzards.

This has happened many times, only going at higher rates of speed, 50-70 mph. I can pull over and it starts right back up. This usually happens when the gas tank is at 1/4 or less, it's not out of gas, I can go another 50 miles without filling up at speeds of under 50 mph. Once I fill the gas tank back up, it doesn't stall again until the gas tank goes below 1/4. Is there a recall coming up on this issue? dt.

After reading in my 10/13/02 detroit news/free press about problems reguarding my 2000 Ford Focus , I decided to lodge this complaint. The article listed one problem being a sudden stalling of the vehicle. While driving at 40 mph my car just stalled out. I could not restart it. I had it towed to a service station about 1 block from where it stalled. I was told it needed a new fuel pump. I paid $625 for the repair.
