On April 22 , 2017 while my daughter and her 5 years old child was driving from a cheerleader meet in maryland to sterling virginia, she stopped to retrieved a snack pack out of the trunk, when she got back in and started the vehicle the vehicle steering seized up and the light came on she was luckily able to maneuver the vehicle back to sterling va goons dealership . The vehicle as been at the dealership for 25 days; Ford motor CO offered an x-pin to purchase a new vehicle which they tried to intimidate my daughter into buying. The vehicle is in my name and I have since retired and live in FL . The vehicle is at koons Ford very arrogant bunch and today I received a call that they wanted their loaner back and that for me to make a decision right away and authorized the payments for repair he did not offer any coupons or breakdown of the same. I told him to call me back and thats where it is now. Ford know very well that there is a problem with the vehicle steering system and are playing games with people lives. Please address my name is danilo green 954-682-7945 thanks.
The electric power steering unit is defective. My daughter was driving on the highway. It began making a grinding noise while driving and minutes later after pulling off the highway it started locking up where it would not turn. My daughter was able to jiggle it back and forth to make it steer into her works parking lot. Steering failure light came on and said to safely stop. I had to trailer it a mechanic shop because it would not turn. Mechanic and had to replace entire electric steering rack ($1947. 74).
Started the car in my driveway and the steering assist failure light came on. The car has no power steering. It is not drivable. I drive 70 miles a day on the freeway and it was pure luck this didn't cause an accident.

Steering fault light and locked steering wheel - recurring in my driveway, unable to diagnose & fix - what if it happens on the freeway?.
Making a right hand turn in silver lake, CA when the power steering assist failure light came on. The steering wheel seemed to freeze. I was able to pull over but was definitely shaken as I almost hit several cars. I know that if my younger sister was driving she would not have known what to do. I turned the car off and restarted and was able to get home. After research and realizing this is a common problem with the 2012 Focus not sure what to do and do not have the estimated $2,000 to repair.
No power steering at all after starting my car. Power steering fault assist light on dash was on. Vehicle was parked in my driveway. The steering fault assist light had come on several times a couple of weeks before when starting the car and I had no power steering but when I turned off the ignition and then back on several times the power steering would work and the steering fault assist light would go off. Had to have vehicle towed to dealer for repair.
As I was coming to a stop, the steering got really difficult and the steering assist light came on. After stopping, the steering locked up completely. I restarted the car, and it worked after that. Now I'm worried this will happen in a worse area, particularly while on the freeway. I also recently had the passenger door open while I was driving and had to tie the seat belt through the door handle and hold to make it home without the door coming open. Locking the seat belt in still made the door barely open, and the alert go off. This looks like it was just recalled, so I'm hoping I get reimbursed. It wasn't cheap to fix. Car is 114,000 miles.

Power steering has intermittently gone out on car. On June 21, 2016 the steering fault light came on while backing out of a parking place. The steering locked up, the fault light appeared and stated service was required. Dealership says computer recorded default message but Ford motor company will not authorize repairs unless the steering locks up, light and default message appears while in the dealership's possession. We have contacted Ford motor company and they refuse to take any action. I have filed a complaint and received a case number -cas9882100- as of June 22, 2016.

The steering light had come on before then went off because the steering wheel ended up being able to move. This happened acouple other times and everything was fine. Then when it finally quit working was when I, the owner, had parked it to go inside somewhere, then came out to leave and the light came on and the steering wheel wouldn't turn. I had to have it towed to the dealership and pay $1,245. 00 to have it fixed. They had it for 2 weeks.

May be two weeks to repair, no word on when parts will be in.
I see you are investigating power steering problems with the fusion. I have a 2012 Ford Focus and the power steering is out. I would leave the car parked and running during the summer, if I was on my cell phone. The power steering assist light would come on, while in park and if I tried to move the car, the power steering would not respond. I could turn the car off for a few minutes, then back on and the problem would seems to fix itself. I don't recall how many times it happened, 5-7 times probably. The final time it happened, I was again parked and this time turning the car off did not correct it. That was approximately October 15, 2014 with about 38,000 miles. Unlike some of the other comments I have read on the internet, I never had the power steering go out on me while driving. I will be going to have the car checked tomorrow at mac haik Ford in georgetown, TX where I bought the car in January of 2013. I just had to learn to drive without power steering again.

I was driving on one of our first trips (400 miles) in the winter of 2012 in south dakota interstate 90. There was snow and ice patches on the highway and the steering was easy to slightly turn one direction, but harder to slightly turn the other direction. Trucks and or wind always makes a car move and a person's steering makes a correction for this. This car's steering was easy one way and not as easy the other way. Very difficult to drive this way. I have been driving vehicles for 60 years and never had this experience before. I took the car to the Ford dealer and he said that Ford did have some recalls on this steering behavior , but my car was not included. He did drive it and said it wasn't perfect, but okay as it was electronically made this way. I wrote a letter to Ford motor company and they sent me back a letter telling me to work it out with the dealer. I guess they didn't understand my letter as I had already talked to the dealer and he couldn't do anything with it. I can only hope that we can trade it off before it causes an accident some day. Probably not another Ford! I also question why this steering behavior wasn't brought to the attention of the NHTSA? there were recalls before on this same problem. Thanking you in advance for patience, I was driving.
