Car transmission shudder when accelerating from stop, dealer says its nothing wrong with it.
The transmission shudders when accelerating from fully stopped, such as when departing from a stop light or stop sign. It also shudders when accelerating from low speed, such as coming out of a parking lot and accelerating after slowly turning onto a street. The entire car shakes as it tries to pick up speed. This happens whether the engine is cold or warm. I have read dozens upon dozens of identical accounts from other 2017 Ford Focus owners. Something is inherently wrong with the powertrain system throughout the fleet and the manufacturer should fix the problem.
Power loss to drive wheels starting from stops makes vehicle feel unsafe in traffic. Dual clutch powershift transmission shudders, slips, and sometimes clunks in first & into second gears under nominal acceleration. Vehicle has only 22,000 miles. Ford Focus dual clutch powershift transmission problems remain. And this is the second transmission replaced by Ford at only 17,000 miles.
The transmission shudders and vibrates while changing gears, also hesitates while changing gears, makes chattering noises while changing gears and is slow to accelerate at times. Ford has already changed the clutch and it seemed to solve the problem, however it is now doing the same thing.
The vehicle has the same transmission shudder issue as many others have complained about. Shifting from 1st to 2nd gear there seems to be a lull like the vehicle isn't sure what it wants to do. I didn't notice it happening in the winter too much. However, once it got warmer, it seems like it happens nearly every stop light or in low speed zones where it's shifting between 1st and 2nd frequently. I also hear a metal clanging sound on slowdowns often enough to seem like it's an issue worth mentioning. It's been happening since around 8k miles and I am at 45k on the vehicle. I will be having it looked at now since the warranty will be coming up and I don't want this issue to linger.
Upon coming to a stop (such as at a traffic light or stop sign,) the vehicle makes extremely loud "clunking" noises when shifting down in gear. The sound seems to come directly from the transmission area and is in sync with the changing of gears. Upon acceleration from a stop, the transmission will make grinding sounds and stutter the entire car in a jerking-type motion. When this happens, the entire car feels as if there is a loss of power and makes it hard to accelerate properly in high-speed/high-traffic areas (such as freeway on-ramps or state highways. ) I personally believe that this could be a dangerous thing because if I were to pass someone on a dotted line, or even pull out onto a roadway, the car may either stall or stutter so slowly that I wouldn't be able to get up to speed correctly, resulting in a possible collision. Lastly, I would like to mention that on 3 separate occasions now, when I am trying to park the car in a parking space, the transmission would not switch it into reverse at all. My gear shifting stick was in reverse, as well as the gauge-cluster displaying I was in reverse, however, my car acted as if it was in neutral. I would have to place the car back into park or drive again, and then try again for the transmission to successfully switch into reverse. I did contact my local Ford dealership, however they said they were many weeks out and I never could get ahold of anyone there to schedule a time to look at it. I will add on that my car only has 17,000 miles on it as of July 2019. From my research, I have seen many others post complaints or worries in regard to the 2017 Ford Focus and its transmission. I hope that NHTSA will look into this further and can find answers as to why many, many of these cars are having issues with stalling, stuttering, and grinding noises and motions coming from the transmission.
When accelerating, typically from a stopped position but not exclusively, the transmission shudders. This started happening at about 20k miles and I'm told by the Ford dealership "some shuddering is to be expected & cannot be repaired". I disagree. This is not to be expected as no other vehicle I've owned did this unless there was a mechanical problem.
The transmission shudders frequently. Its a reoccurring issue every time I drive and the car only has 30k miles on it, the car did not come equipped with the select shift mode and it has been doing it since I got the car, it makes the whole front end of the car shake (not violently enough to make the car steer out of control). I took it to a Ford dealership and they said they don't know what I'm talking about and cant reproduce the issue, but its a well known that the Ford powershift transmission is terrible, basically the issue is not common enough to need replacing so I'm just stuck with a poor transmission.
Shifting from first to second the transmission shudders and sounds and feels like vibrations. Had the clutch replaced at 34k. Happenjng again. Brought it to Ford , they reprogrammed the transmission , 2 days later happening again.
Transmission shudders heavily when accelerating from 1st to 3rd gear. Seems to only do this when the engine is warmed up.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 Ford Focus. While driving various speeds, turning, and attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle shuddered. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, it traveled to the floorboard and failed to respond. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to autonation Ford (7200 broad st, brooksville, FL 34601, (352) 419-0810) and lakeland Ford (1430 w memorial blvd, lakeland, FL 33815, (863) 682-1100) where it was diagnosed that a transmission shudder test was needed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer. The failure mileage was 15,000.
~tl the contact owns a 2017 Ford Focus. While operating the vehicle, the transmission shuddered when accelerating from a stop and the transmission would not shift properly occasionally. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 17,000.
I have had transmission issues since purchasing this vehicle. The transmission shudders when I accelerate. It also shudders when accelerating and turning simultaneously. This seems to be the exact same issue that affected Ford Focuses built in 2012-2016 vehicles. It occurs mostly while accelerating from a stop. It has occured throughout the life of the vehicle (curently ~20k miles driven). This issue is still ongoing.
Purchased new at 9000 miles transmission started to shudder and slip on acceleration, had clutch replaced at 11k miles, at 22k miles it occured again this time jerking into gear while accelerating, replaced clutch again 24k miles at 37k miles had it replaced again for the same reason. 3 clutch replacements in under 40k miles and it is happening again. This is unsafe in heavy traffic and highways transmission failure is dangerous. Transmission jerking, shuddering takes longer to get up to speed and maintain speed in traffic. Also shudders and slips when starting off from a stoplight.
Ongoing issue with the transmission shuddering when it is warm. Also, the transmission slips out of gear momentarily ocaasionally when in reverse causing saftey issue. Have taken to bluebonnet Ford, and they state it is as designed. I called jordan Ford and was told there was nothing they could do about the transmission issues with the Ford Focus. This has been ongoing since April 2018, about 10 months after purchase.
Transmission shudder. When the transmission warms up the car shudders upon acceleration and shifting into first, second, and occasionally third gear. This generally occurs during medium to higher rates of acceleration. The shudder is harder to identify or nonexistent when accelerating at a very low pace.
When accelerating from a stop and when turning while in motion on a city street and when accelerating after slowing down on the highway the transmission hesitates and makes the car jerk and shake as if the transmission is slipping and/or going out. This has been an ongoing issues since approximately a week after I purchased the vehicle in July of 2017.
Transmission shudders effecting acceleration and makes grinding noises. Sometimes the car will lurch coward upon acceleration. I've had the manual transmission assembly and manual transmission clutch pressure plate replaced three times. Transmission is beginning to shudder again. Contacted Ford August 15 and they keep saying that someone will call within 24 hours. I've contacted them daily and they keep saying someone will call the following day. Six days later and still no response. Keep getting the same store that they updated my case number and someone will call us within 24 hours.
There is a shudder and loss of power when accelerating from a stop in the 2017 Ford Focus s with manual transmission. There is excessive jerkiness when attempting to accelerate from a stop and at low speeds, from around 0-25 miles per hour. This is a safety issue and an apparent plaguing issue in the Ford Focus from at least the 2015 model. There have been numerous times when I have nearly been caught in traffic making a left hand turn because of unresponsiveness to the power going to the wheels; there have been even more frustrated drivers behind me when trying to get going from a stop. Additionally, the car seems to want to stall after cold start after work and driving about 2000 feet to the traffic light (so this would be the second time the vehicle was started, about 6-9 hours from first cold start of the day). I've had to press on the accelerator while the car was in neutral on multiple occasions to keep the car idling. It has the same shuddering feeling, without the jerkiness of the transmission, while waiting at the traffic light. The issue of the feeling of wanting to stall goes away with about 5 minutes of driving. The jerkiness and shuddering of the transmission is constant. Passengers are quick to get motion sickness when riding in the vehicle.
