1 Front Suspension Lower Control Arm problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/25/2004

1) prior to incident, car had been returned to dealer with clunking noise complaint, sounding like from left front. Dealer referenced TSB 03-20-02, replaced sway bar end links (twice), tightened loose strut mount body bolts. Owner still heard popping noise. 2) day of failure, driver had just exited curve to left and driving in straight section. Car lurched to left, across centerline. Driver (over)corrected, veering off road to right, striking tree with left rear. Driver side front wheel askew due to broken lower control arm and broken sway bar link, which resulted in disconnected cv shaft. Damage patterns indicate failure preceeded off-road excursion. 3) car probable total loss.

16k- Dec 02 brakes and rotors shot $387 16. 5k Jan 03 transmission rebuilt 2 weeks due to parts on back order 16. 7k Feb 7, 2003 left front lower control arm broke as wife pulled into traffic full extent of damage unknown at this time.

4 Front Suspension Lower Control Arm problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/23/2002

Driver felt a vibration and heard a loud pop then the vehicle swereved to the right and hit a bridge. After the accident the vehicle was inspected and showed that the lower control arm had broken on the right side.

5 Front Suspension Lower Control Arm problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/15/2002

While driving 35 mph vehicle hit gravel on side of road and slid into guardrail. Dealer determined lower control arm was broken.
