I have had the vehicle since it first hit the car lot with 15 miles on it. Since purchase, I have changed the wheel bearings 9 times! this is scary as the bearings can break apart and cause my vehicle to lose control. I have had enough! now, the bearing is bad again, just changed in April 2014.

I noticed a vibration that seemed to increase over time of about 2 weeks. I took the vehicle into the dealer where they replaced a wheel bearing and recommended I replace the rear tires due to severe cupping. The tires are continental contacts with about 10,000 miles on them and should have lasted the next 5 years. I went to the tire shop where they told me that Ford Focuses are known to have alignment problems and will destroy their tires prematurely. Researching the internet I found 47 such complaints over the years relating exactly to what I experienced. The problem is the rear suspension is cambered in too much at the top and Ford never made the suspension adjustable. Mine measured 1/4 inch difference between the top of the 15 inch rim compared to the bottom. This sits the car on the inside edge of the tire creating the premature wear. Ford must know this problem exists.

Ford dealer had fixed front wheel bearings under warranty, but will not fix rear wheel bearings under warranty. Car makes a roaring noise while driving. I think the rear parts on the car have been recalled, but the dealer wants to charge me $490 to fix. Also I paid $25 from the Ford dealer for wipers that keep scraping the windshield and give me poor visibility.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. The contact was driving 30 mph when he noticed an unusual noise from the rear tires. The vehicle was then taken to a local repair facility where they diagnosed that the rear driver side wheel bearing would need replacing. The dealer was informed of the failure and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 72,442 and the current mileage was 72,492.

Ford will not honor recall on wheel bearing. Statement said even if the car has been service before it will fix. Not true I spent a hour on the phone with them . Ford will not honor aggreement because it did it again. However, it is deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. Vehicle description: 2000-2001 Ford Focus passenger vehicles, originally sold in or currently registered in the states of , ohiom, . In high corrosion areas, where salt is used on roadways in the winter, the rear wheel bearing seal race can experience surface corrosion. If this condition occurs, the wheel bearing seals could become damaged and allow contamination to enter the wheel bearings. Consequence: the wheel bearings could prematurely wear and cause a noticeable noise. If not repaired, this condition could progress to the point where the wheel begins to wobble. Remedy: dealers will replace the rear wheel bearings at no cost to the consumer. Additional bearing seals will also be installed to ensure a smooth ride. This program will be in effect until December 31, 2002, regardless of mileage. Even if the vehicle has already been serviced under recall campaign 00s31, Ford has taken additional steps to keep the wheel bearings in top shape. Owners Ford has decided to conduct a service campaign to replace the rear wheel bearings. Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332, concerning this program.
Left rear wheel bearing failed at 80,000 miles after they said it was replaced by recall at 22,000 miles. Left rear wheel comes loose and wobbles. Had to have it towed because it is unsafe to drive.
In April 2002 the local Ford dealer performed the 2000 Ford Focus wheel bearing safety upgrade at 19,000 miles. In oct 2005 the right front wheel bearing was replaced at 59,000 miles and now we need to replace the right rear wheel bearing at 79,000. It appears that Ford has not fixed the problem with their safety upgrade.
I have a 2001 Ford Focus, originally there has only been one owner to this vehicle. Very recently, I experienced a very loud noise in my left rear tire which as days past, I was unable to drive the car. My tire had begun to wobble to the point I thought that it may come off my car. This was caused by defective wheel bearings in the tire.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. The abs light illuminated when the vehicle was started. While driving, the contact heard a sound, which resembled scraping metal. The dealer stated that the wheel bearing failed and they repaired the failure. The powertrain, speed, and dealer information were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 96,250.
My 2003 Ford Focus se started to shake, pull hard to the right starting around 50 mph, takes bumps hard and back-end sways. It only has 36,000 miles on it. Dealer says the left rear knuckle assembly and wheel bearing need to be replaced, that it was "bent" and I must've hit something with it. This is just not true. 2000 Focus had a similar problem. I think a bolt came loose, weakening the assembly and allowing it to bend through normal use.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. While driving 25 mph the vehicle began making a clunking noise, vibrating, and the right wheel began to make a grinding noise. The dealer stated that the wheel bearing separated from the hub. The vehicle was repaired. On November 2001 repairs related to recall#00v303000 was performed on the left wheel of the vehicle. The failure mileage was 94000, and the current mileage was 96,000.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. While driving 40 mph the rear driver's side tire began to wobble and produced noises. The contact smelled something burning and pulled the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the mechanic shop. The mechanic determined that the wheel bearing detached from the wheel. The dealer was contacted. The contact searched online and entered the VIN. The system stated that the VIN was included in recall # 00v303000. The current and failure mileage were 100,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. While driving various speeds, the contact heard a loud noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. She took the vehicle to the dealer and had all four tires replaced. Shortly after the repair, the failure resurfaced accompanied by mild drifting to the right and excessive vibration. She took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that the wheel bearings caused the failures. They recommended that an alignment be performed. In addition, all four tires needed to be replaced again. The tire specialist stated that the a component on the vehicle was causing the tires to fail. The vehicle has not been repaired again. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 36,000.
My 2000 Ford Focus began making a very loud rumbling noise along with a grinding noise while driving down the road. I took it into my mechanic and he said that both rear wheel bearings were totally shot and the rear wheels of the car were about to fall off. I called Ford customer care and they said that since the car was out of warranty there was nothing they were willing to do. This was in spite of the fact that the car had been previously recalled for this problem. I feel that this is a serious and life threatening safety defect.
: the contact stated while driving at 70 to 75 mph the vehicle started to sway. When he checked the vehicle to see what was wrong he found the rear wheel was loose. The vehicle was towed to the dealership. They said the rear wheel bearing and wheel shaft wore out and needed to be replaced. There was NHTSA recall campaign 00v303000 in 2003 concerning the rear wheel bearing, and the remedy repairs were performed. The manufacturer was contacted, and the vehicle has been repaired.
Mine is a Ford Focus 2000 se. The rear wheel bearing on the left side has gone bad and needs to be replaced on my vehicle. It is causing a loud rumbling noise at speeds higher than 20 mile/hr and wobble at speeds higher than 50 mile/hr. Apparently this is a common problem and can lead to the wheel coming off during motion. It seems like there was a service campaign by the Ford company (NHTSA campaign id 01i017000) to address this issue. I also noted NHTSA action number pe 02016 for this same problem. I contacted the company to be told that my particular vehicle (according to the VIN number) was not supposed to be having this problem and thus not part of any service campaign or recall. It is very unfortunate that the company does not take responsibility of a common safety problem with their vehicle, just because in their assessment it is not their fault. I was wondering if I can take advantage of the above mentioned service campaign or the nhsta action number.
The contact experienced a noise from the rear end. The noise became louder over the past week. The contact took the vehicle to a Ford dealer, who noted this was an issue with the wheel bearings. The wheel bearings were replaced under a special service campaign in 2003 on a customer satisfaction program. The nets, 01i017. This was not covered because it was not under recall or any type of warranty the second time around. The wheel bearings were cracked and the bearings will not be covered by this again. The contact called the Ford dealer manager, and Ford manufacturer who offered no assistance. The contact planned to have this replaced.
The right front wheel bearing gave out. This is a known problem and one of the top 3 problems that people have been asking for a recall on this vehicle along with the ignition lock breaking. The rear wheel bearing was recalled, but Ford won't recall the front. I have never had, nor ever known anyone who ever had a wheel bearing give out on a car, and certainly not one only 5 years old.
2000, Ford, Focus. Contact states the wheel bearing was howling. The vehicle only had 47,000 miles on it. Heard this noise for one month. He thought it was the tires, but it was not the tires. Took vehicle to an an independent shop, and they told him it was the rear wheel bearings, and showed him a service bulletin regarding the rear wheel bearings which did did not apply to this vehicle.
Additional statement for claim # 10131720 along with front wheel bearing being replaced, the front axel bearing it also being replaced.
Problem with suspension. Car shakes when turning at any speeds along with noise that sounds like driving with a flat tire. Tire was not flat. Took in to dealership for a different safety recall and was told the front wheel bearings were deteriorated. Part is being replaced.
I have had the inside front wheel bearing replaced at 50000 miles. I am at 61000 now and the soem thng needs to be done again. I think the same problem that was recalled on the rear wheel bearings is affecting the front wheel bearings. The seal corrodes and and the bearings go bad. I have also had both outside wheel bearings replaced at 50000 miles. I have had them done outside of Ford at my own mechanic due to price. The inside whell bearing was a Ford part and was difficult to come by, my mechanic need my VIN number to get the part. I have not had anything dangerous occur because of this but it makes a really loud humming sound while in motion.
While driving at 65, the left rear wheel came off. The consumer pulled off the road. The vehicle sustained some damage. The vehicle was towed. The dealer stated the wheel bearings were defective.
While driving 65 mph, the left front wheel went flying off car. No trouble prior to this date. The bearings were replaced when the car was taken in for repair.
In 2000 I brought my Ford Focus 2000 in for a recall on the left rear wheel bearing. The dealer supposedly fixed the problem. In 2001, my right rear wheel almost completely separated from my vehicle, and the car fishtailed when driven. I brought the car into a Ford dealer who diagnosed the problem as a bad bearing in the right rear wheel. They replaced the bearing, abs sensor, and spindle under warranty. On Feb 3, 2005, my abs light came on, followed by loud metallic popping and grinding noises when braking or accelerating. The car did not seem safe to drive, so I immediately brought the car into the nearest Ford dealer. The problem was again diagnosed as a faulty bearing in the left rear wheel, the very same that was replaced in 2000. This caused the abs sensor to go bad and notched large chunks of metal out of the spindle, and potentially could have caused failure of the breaks or complete separation of the wheel from the vehicle. The dealer claimed there was nothing wrong with the design or the bearings being put in, and it was just coincidence that I had to bring it in 3 times for problems with 3 identical bearings. They obviously have not solved the problem identified in the 2000 recall, but have gotten around it with 12 month warranty periods, forcing customers to replace the bearings spending over $650 a pop every year or so.
Vehicle is losing its front bearings. There is a noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Owner took the vehicle to the dealer, who confirmed this defect. Vehicle is no longer under warranty, and dealership is asking for $700. 00 to do repairs.
Rear wheel bearings failed, resulting in rear whell wobble. . This failure mad eit hard to control vehicle. Owner notified manufacturer.
While driving at any speed steering wheel vibrated heavily. Dealership informed the consumer that the problem pertained to the wheel bearing. The problem was not resolved.
Ford extended their warranty on rear wheel bearings on the 2000 Ford Focus, beacuse of problems and safety issues which could lead to ball joiont separation with loss of steering control. My vehicle is now experiencing rear wheel bearing problems, but Ford refuses to have the problem fixed at their expense, because the extended warranty period has expired.
The consumer noticed a noise coming from the passenger side rear wheel. It was determined that the noise was due to failure of the wheel bearings.
