The contact owns a 2001 Ford Focus. The contact was driving 5 mph and applying the brakes for a traffic stop when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The failure would occur intermittently and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and possible repairs. The dealer advised the contact that there was a leak in the pcv hose. The vehicle was repaired yet the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer advised that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 03v482000 (fuel system, gasoline) that could potentially be the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 56,500.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Focus. The contact noticed that the vehicle was leaking fuel while being driven 5 mph out of the driveway. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the mechanic stated that one of the clamps for the fuel line detached. The manufacturer was called and stated that they were not liable for the repairs. 2005 Ford Focus with fuel filter failure. Consumer states that the fuel line was coming off of the filter. Consumer was informed of a recall for the fuel filter. The consumer was charged for reconnecting the hose, but not the filter. The consumer stated there was a problem with the wheel rims rusting.
Car was shaking violently while idling. Was fine while driving, but when gas was not applied it would shake and die. Dealership quoted $80 just to look at it. I went to auto zone for free computer analysis, which said oxygen sensor needed replaced. I replaced it, but the problem was not fixed. A random gentleman at auto zone said it sounded like an air leak. I used starter fluid to lightly spray on hoses in engine to find a leak (engine revs when you hit a hose with a hole). I spent 4 dollars replacing a small rubber elbow and fixed the problem. The existing elbow right in the back center of the engine was burnt completely through with about a 2 inch hole.

This car is going back for 3rd time for a fuel leak . The fuel leaks out of the return line and drips on to the exhaus. T I guess Fords is waiting till it causes a fire before they fix this. I think there should be a recall to check the rest of these car. I know of 4 other people who have had the same problem.

My vehicle, 2001 Ford Focus, displays all the symptoms regarding a faulty fuel pump fuel delivery module. At one-quarter tank, the engine will stall on right turns. During extended driving, the vehicle will surge and stutter eventually stalling, and during idling, the vehicle will drop power requiring constant pressure on the accelerator. I took the vehicle in for service on Feb 7, 2007 and was told that my vehicle came off the assembly line three months too late to have fallen under the extended warranty. I am furious that Ford would provide a 10yr extended warranty on it's vehicles - regardless of mileage, but would exclude models that have VIN numbers just outside the window of "known occurrence of problem". The vehicle had stalled on a major highway (us95 in las vegas clark county), and fortunately no one was hurt. The vehicle had over $1300 of service completed during this incident, but the issue has now re-occurred. Symptoms began in late September, and have gotten progressively worse. I do not feel safe driving long distances, as the vehicle has begun stalling around corners and during idling. I currently can not afford payments on a new vehicle, and want Ford to honor its pledge for safety by admitting more vehicles under its extended service warranty. Ford's technical service bulletin regarding this defect is 03n01 and Ford claims that over 671, 000 vehicles are affected. I suspect very few 2001 Focuses are still on the road, and fewer ever received notice regarding this "recall". I find it hard to defend their patronizing position that "(they're) sorry, but there is nothing that can be done". I have spent thousands of dollars to keep this vehicle road worthy, I and I refuse to spend one penny more. For a vehicle model that has had so many flaws, I am appalled at the lack of support actually provided. I will note, that Ford was very helpful in replacing the ignition assembly-three times. : the contact stated that gasoline overflowed from the gas tank on an intermittent basis. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who upon examination determined that there was minor debris in the vent hose of the gas tank. The dealer blew out the vent hose. After the procedure there were no further problems with the gas tank. There was a NHTSA recall # 06e056000 regarding fuel system, gasoline which was found that was similar to this issue. Driving down the road and the car starts to slow down, even with me pushing the gas. I pulled over safely and the car stalled. I turned the key off thinking it was going to be like last time and I would just have to start it up again. Not this time, it acted like it was out of gas but with a half a tank that could not be it. I later got the car back to my house and started looking around. I found a rubber hose that was being compressed in when ever I tried starting the car. Later I found that the hose lead back to the gas line. I then over time started looking this up on the net and found out that it could be a recall and I am writing to let you know my story.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Focus. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle began hesitating , surging, and then lost all power. The vehicle was pulled off the road before it completely shut off. The vehicle restarted after being parked for a while. The dealer stated that they would not repair the vehicle unless it was paid for by the contact. The dealer also stated that the fuel delivery module failed. There was an investigation (ea02022) that was opened and closed. The current mileage was 125,000 and failure mileage was 71,380 updated 3/4/08.
My car is again in service due to a faulty gas cap. The wire which attaches the gas cap to car keeps getting caught when the cap is be screwed on. Check gas cap light comes on and then the check engine light comes on. This is the 4th time it is in the shop for this reason. I am told I have to check each time I get gas to make sure cap is on properly and that connecting wire is not caught. I don't believe most people have to do this. I believe the gas tank line was installed improperly and therefore it keeps causing this problem. Thank you.

When accelerating in various inclines or decline my car chokes and hesitates as if it has water in the gas line or the fuel filter is clogged. It starts to jerk and sputter and refuses to accelerate if I push on the pedal instead it chokes out. Either the car dies right there or I manage to pull it over and let it die on its own as soon as I come to a stop. Trouble restarting the car as if to much air intake to choke it out. Finally it starts and it runs after blowing the lines before putting it into drive it's good fro maybe another 10 15 miles and the again it starts puttering and wanted to die no choice but to let it die to restart. Car has been in the shop numerous times have had a collapsed fuel line and has been replace but still the problem persists again when it's in the shop it does not happen and yet they do not drive it at the time its normally driven or at the extremes of the traffic while it happens so as to see what it does. A best explanation you can find from a mechanic is no problem seeable. And yet there is one from us the purchaser.
First my gas pedal stuck while driving. Then a couple of days later it just broke. It was like I had no gas pedal. Was very fortunate that someone did not rear end me. Had I been on the expressway I would probably be dead because car would not go.
Please look into the fuel systems of the 2000 Ford Focus. My son and his friend were killed in an automobile accident on 12/8 in detroit, mi. Early that morning, they struck a fire hydrant and the car exploded (back of the engine fire). Earlier, in the summer of 2004, I had driven the car home, turned off the engine, and gone in the house. About 5 minutes later. I came out to go to dinner with my wife. . . The car wouldn't turn over. When I got out, I found gas spewed all over the street. I hosed down the area, and had the car towed to bill brown Ford-livonia, mi. The car was repaired, and I was assured that all was well. Now, 5-6 months later, this accident occurred. I am not suggesting that the accident (hitting the hydrant) wasn't my son's doing. However, the speed at which the accident occurred (est. At 35 mph) shouldn't have resulted in a fuel line break and fire. Please check into the incident. The incident report number (detroit police department) is 04146060. The VIN number of the car is 1fafp34p4yw217077. The service record at bill brown Ford will note a long history of fuel system problems, including the issue noted above (gas on the street). More than anything I want to prevent another tragedy. Please look into this matter.
1. Without crash or other damage, fuel began to leak out of the top of the gas tank and down the tank onto the undercarriage. Occurs only when ignition is on and vehicle is driven. 2. Failure appears to be a seal on siphon/fuel line going into top of tank. Consequences are potential serious fire/explosion hazard, unpredictable loss of power when driving. Awaiting service on the vehicle.
Started car and drove 1/4 mile, smelled gas, continued for another 1/4 mile and noted gas smell stronger. Pulled over and noted wet trail behind vehicle and gasoline pouring out underneath vehicle. In less than 5 minutes, half a tank of gas (almost 10 gallons) was discharged from the vehicle. Gas leaked only when ignition was on. Had vehicle towed to dealership. Tow truck driver commented this happens all the time with these vehicles and that it was a seal on top of the fuel tank that failed. Dealer commented much the same. Had fuel pump replaced by dealer after premature failure 8 months earlier.
After parking consumer returned and attempted to start the vehicle, but it did not start. Consumer smelled fuel odors inside the vehicle. Consumer left the vehicle to discover a pool of gas under the vehicle. Dealer examined the vehicle, and determined that the fuel line detached from the fuel tank. Connection of fuel line to the fuel tank and fuel line clip was repaired by service dealership. Vehicle was also tested by dealer.
While driving consumer's wife made a left turn and front wheels locked. Then, vehicle drifted and hit the curb and a pole. Both, consumer and wife had their seat belts on, but sustained back and leg injuries. Also, a recall was issued on the fuel lines. Insurance company had the vehicle towed, and was told by the insurance company that vehicle was totaled.
When at a stop the fuel tank started to leak. The consumer was unable to accelerate and had to pull to the shoulder and have the vehicle towed. The dealership inform the consumer that the problem was pertaining to the fuel line. The dealerships mechanic was unable to resolve the problem.
Currently own a 2000 Ford Focus wagon with approximately 57,000 miles on it. In the last 3 months we have had 2 breakdowns that could of very easily ended tragically. 1st: 3 months ago the front driver side suspension spring sheared in half. The sharp shear of the spring went into the tire and ended ripped it apart. Thank god my wife and kids were only going 25 mph. 2nd: 1 week ago the fuel line clip attaching the fuel line to the gas tank burst into pieces in a parking lot of a local store as my wife was driving around. Again, thank god nobody was smoking nearby.
My 2002 Ford Focus has had a no start and stalling problem since 9-28-03. I have taken it to elite Ford in covina CA. Thirty times or more and they cant seem to diagnois the problem. I also have a problem with my front end making a clunking sound,they said it was a sway bar that was loose and they tightened it. That problem still exists also.
After driving to work and parking in the parking garage, went inside for about 20 minutes. Came back out to car to find a puddle of gasoline which had leaked from the fuel tank. A very dangerous fire hazard. The exhaust system was extremely hot and fuel had leaked all over it. Had to have the vehicke towed to the repair garage. . The problem ended up being that the cheap plastic fuel line quick-connector coming from the fuel pump to the fuel line had broken, causing the fuel line to come apart from the fuel pump, allowing fuel to spray all over the tank and exposed parts under the vehicle as well as the concrete garage floor. A spark or lit cigarette butt would have been disastrous. Fortunately a fire or explosion did not occur or their surely would have been fatalities.
While parked vehicle caught on fire. Mechanic indicated fire was caused by malfunction on inertia switch. Consumer further states that after the front end impact accident, the inertia switch failed to shut off the fuel injection system, causing the car to burst into flames.
Consumer was complaining of a problem with the fuel line. Vehicle was turned off and there was a strong smell of fuel. Also, there was fuel under the front of the vehicle.
Consumer started up the vehicle and noticed gas smell. Consumer got out of the vehicle, looked under the vehicle, and noticed gas leaking. Immediately had the vehicle towed.
Upon accelerating from a complete stop vehicle wouldn't accelerate. Fuel leaked out the fuel tank. Dealership indicated that it was caused by a leak in the fuel line, and serviced the vehicle. The leak recurred within 3 weeks of the repair.
