1 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2018 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/20/2021

Our 2018 Ford escort has the same problems described nhsta campaiign #18v7350000 recal id 298184 but this VIN is not on recall. We pulled out into traffic and the car just died luckily it was not on a highway. We need to keep the tank as close to full as possible and fill the gas tank at the coolest part of the day and it takes a while to get the car started. One time after filling the tank we had to wait 15 mins and the car ran fine then it just died, nearly getting rear ended by a tractor trailer. That was on 4-20-21 and otyher times before.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2018 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/15/2020

Stuck canister purge valve (may cause stall). Mine always triggered p1450 "unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum" code after filling at gas station. I purchased and replaced the canister purge valve from Ford in midland, mi. This should have been a recall part and I should not have had to purchase! this design is flawed and all models with this design (and all years) need to be added to the recall. This could have been very dangerous if it stalled at a bad time.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/10/2020

On January 3, 2020 I had my car serviced by beau townsend Ford in vandalia, OH for recall number 18v735000. They replaced the canister purge valve. On January 10, 2020; while driving on the highway to nashville, TN my car stalled out which almost caused an accident. I then had to call for a tow truck to tow the car to my friends house. I then call the Ford company who told me to take the car to wyatt johnson in nashville, TN to be repaired. I had to pay for a tow to that dealership and upon inspection; they stated that the fuel tank, evap canister and fuel pump needed to be replaced and they are charging me $1366 to complete the work.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2018 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/07/2019

My vehicle is a 2018 Ford Focus st and has a check engine light that indicates the evaporative emissions canister purge valve to be stuck open which could cause the fuel tank to deform. I experience engine hesitation and almost stalling immediately upon start-up after refilling fuel. This issue is addressed in an existing recall (18s32) for certain 2012-2018 Ford Focus. However, my VIN number is not included in the list of cars that are affected and as a result, Ford refuses to cover the repair expense.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/16/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. The contact took the vehicle to hall Ford elizabeth city (1310 n road st, elizabeth city, nc 27909, (877) 475-0723) for routine maintenance. The contact was informed of an unknown recall regarding the evap purge valve. The dealer reprogrammed the computer system in January of 2019, but the recall was not remedied. The manufacturer initially denied the claim and was investigating to see if they could assist with the repair costs. The contact also stated that the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle shut off while being driven. Also, after refilling the fuel tank, it took four or five times to restart the vehicle. The failure mileage was 80,000.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

After the original recall to repair the stuck canister purge valve my vehicles fuel gauge is not accurate I run out of gas at 1/4 tank or 135 miles to empty. When filling up on fuel my vehicle will not start properly when attempting to start the vehicle after refilling the fuel tank to full. This is not a one time issue this is a ongoing issue that happens many times a month. Transmission is jerking and makes noise and the dealer tells me this is normal when I know it is not. Ford has told the dealerships to tell owners of this vehicle it is normal so they are force to lie per company instructions. This vehicle and all other like it should be sent to the dealers for buy back.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/29/2019

I serviced my Focus on 5/29/19 for recalls. They performed a multi point inspection. Everything normal. 6/09/19, I was driving down city street 40mph driving straight the car down shifted suddenly and a warning " transmission faulty, service now" came on. I was able to drive it home , the car wouldnt shift into a higher gear. I attached both services done . After the second service was done to my vehical it still shuddered when accelerating. 6/29/19 this occured twice the same day, I was waiting at an intersection making a left hand turn into a gas station, when it was safe to turn, I let my foot of the brake and my car inched forward while I hit gas and my car did not move, I was nearly hit both times , the last second with my foot on the gas all the way down to the floor, the car jerks into gear. Ive called the dealership about fixing this issue , ive left messages with no call back, I finally got a service call set but not until July 30th. This has now occured almost everyday since 6/29/19. The car does not always do this , it seems to only do it if im below a half a tank , or the first 60 miles on a full tank. I fear for my safety driving this car that when I hit the gas the engine will just rev u[ and not move and get hit. The car always had a shudder when accelerating since we purchased it 1/12/16, but the sales person insisted with new fuel saving system that it was completely normal. I didnt have any major issues besides the shudder when accelerating, and when I would start my car up the first time after filling up, until I got the recall fixed, now ive had nothing but issues.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/14/2019

I have a 2014 Ford Focus. I had issues with the gas tank filling starting at the end of 2018. I also stalled out on the highway prior to this. I informed the dealer of this issue prior to the completion of the recall which is associated with this defect (safety recall notice 18s32 /NHTSA recall 18v-735). The dealer completed the software update related to the recall. The gas tank still exhibited issues filling (which only emerged around the stalling this is related to the recall). The next day after the software update was completed, I received a p1450 error code related to an evap cannister error. According to the dealer, the repair associated with this should have been covered under the recall. However, the dealer (who has been extremely helpful) stated that Ford was unwilling to provide reimbursement to this for this repair. Ford, on their website states, dealers will inspect and replace the canister purge valve, carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module, as necessary. There will be no charge for these services. further efforts to speak to Ford directly about this have been unsuccessful. The dealer stated that this is a technical issue with billing that Ford refuses to address. As a result, I have had to replace the evap cannister at my own expense ($331. 39). The p1450 code came back on after this repair. Therefore the issue is still not resolved. I have been told that any further recall related repairs will be at my expense because Ford refuses to provide appropriate reimbursement. The dealer expressed that they were very frustrated with the situation.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/21/2019

(1) I scheduled service at darcars Ford lanham MD for 9/11/18 for poor driving & extremely poor gas mileage (was filling up about 2x/week instead of 1x/2 week). Car had 53,166 miles, & no warning lights ever came on. Darcars did a tune-up which did nothing to improve the gas mileage. (2) I scheduled service for 9/18/18. Darcars found problem: seized fuel canister that damaged the fuel pump and caused fuel tank to implode. All parts were replaced. (3) after repairs, gas mileage was better but not back to normal. Used to get > 30 ml/gal, & when I filled up, display always said >400 ml to empty. Now I get 27-28 ml/gal, and after fill-up display says ~330 ml to empty. (4) I received NHTSA recall 18v-735 in 12/18. It indicated there was no fix yet. (5) scheduled an oil change for 1/30/19 and asked darcars for status of recall. Darcars said there was a fix: parts replacement & reprogramming. Darcars determined that parts previously replaced were ok, so only reprogramming was done. (6) real problems began 3/1/19. Car suddenly drove extremely poorly while on highway. It would hesitate, & when I gave it a little more gas, it lurched & drove erratically. It then stalled out completely. I tried to restart car a few times & after a few minutes it started. Car had ~3/4 tank of gas and no warning lights ever came on. I scheduled service on 3/5/19. Darcars added or replaced a transmission module. (7) no change in gas mileage, & latest serious problem happened 3/21/19. While on highway, car stalled out completely with no warning. Gas tank was near full, & no warning lights ever came on. Tried to restart car several times but it wouldn't start. Called for a tow. Tried to restart car couple more times while on phone with aaa but no luck. ~10 minutes or so later, while waiting for tow truck, tried to start car again & it started.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/09/2019

I have a recall for possible deformed fuel tank. It is making my car stall at any time to include using cruise control or stopped at a light. The issue is known by my local Ford dealership. Their advice is to keep the gas tank filled above half but I have stalled after driving 30 miles after filling up. I had them inspect my car and they said everything looked fine. I asked about the stalling and they said wait for the software. I guess they expect that I walk to work until they fix the issue. I had a local mechanic look at it and they recommend I wait for the recall because they are unsure if the part will fix the problem without the software. I already had to rent a car for a family emergency and dont want to get stranded while driving to work because I am forced to drive a faulty car with no fix. I can afford to buy or rent a car until an unknown date.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

I am having an issue with filling my car with gasoline. It can take me up to 20 minutes to put $10 worth of gas in the car. The gas nozzle constantly will click off when I am filling the tank. It does not matter if I am doing it manually or if I set the gas nozzle to the automatic feature. I have to continually depress the nozzle to fill my car and it constantly clicks off. I have tried different gas stations, and I will try to hold the nozzle in different way, but it never works properly.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/09/2018

I think I have a faulty fuel modulator related to the recall of the bosch fuel pump systems that's affected the 2014 Ford Focus and the 2015 vws. My car won't start turn over immediately after full refill of gas tank. I've noticed that gas actually spills out under the car after filling up all the way. Ocassionally my car engine will stop entirely in the middle of the road! it's happened twice now when shifting into 1st after being stopped at a light. I took it to the dealership and they confirmed it's the fuel modulator and that it needs to be replaced. This has got to be the same issue as the other recalled units. Thank you!.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/06/2018

After filling up the tank with gas, the vehicle stutters and feels like it's jumping when I am at a stop light and start to go. The gas gauge goes up while I am driving and the vehicle runs out of gas randomly. I was parked at my house and it wouldn't crank when I ran out of gas the 1st time (about three weeks ago) and the 2nd time (6/6/2018), I was on the interstate and the vehicle died due to no gas, yet the gauge was not on empty. Fortunately I was able to get off the side of the road and call roadside assistance. The vehicle is now at at Ford service repair shop and I am waiting to hear from them but the service repairman said this is a common problem, that he had the same vehicle in the week before with this same issue. Last Friday, I had a customer service representative with a Ford dealership tell me this is a common problem that occurs in this vehicle. Obviously running out of gas randomly is very dangerous. There needs to be a recall on this immediately to save lives. Ford needs to take responsibility for this manufacturing defect.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/09/2018

While filling up my gas tank if below half way my car will not start. This problem has been listed online many times and it seems like Ford refuses to recall all 2014 Ford Focus. The gas gauge displays different levels of fuel and I am afraid that my car is going to stop while I'm driving and I have a accident. This has been listed online by may people that this car is having this problem. Mine all of a sudden just started. I need my car fix and I am tired of paying for items you guy and Ford are aware of. I need contact from a manager or a corporate working from Ford. I am also filing a complaint with the bbb. I have small kids and cannot drive my car with them out of fear something may happen. There are reported crashes due to this and you guys are allowing Ford to put people lives in danger. I was stuck at the gas station for 45 mins after getting gas due to this issue.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/12/2017

When filling with car at gas station the auto pump shut off does not function spewing fuel all over. This has happened multiple times at different gas stations. Fuel gauges on car are not accurate. Took car to Ford there is a TSB 15-0034 for this issue. The fuel tank was distorted/deformed causing the fuel pump to malfunction overflowing into the evap canister. This is a dangerous situation and is a fire hazard when filling the car with gas. This issue should be a recall due to fire and safety hazards.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/13/2017

2012 Ford Focus fuel gauge reading erratic, specifically indicating full when near empty. This problem is accompanied by emissions check engine codes p144a. This problem is identified in tsbs as early as 2013 as an "evap purge valve" failure which causes fuel tank collapse. False fuel level indication may cause drivers to run out of fuel and become stranded. Dealer advises fuel tank has collapsed and requires fuel pump, fuel tank, canister and solenoid replacement immediately due to risk of car stalling out and/or running out of gas unexpectedly. When fuel tank is full just after filling up, car requires multiple attempts to start. Mileage at failure: 83000. This appears to be a very common problem for 2012 Ford Focus. Ford recognizes the failure of the plastic gas tank such that the replacement gas tank is a different gas tank which is not plastic, therefore passing on the very expensive cost ($2,000) of the design mistake to the customer. This is not a normal wear and tear cost of ownership problem! this was recalled on the Ford fusion, it should be recalled on the Focus as well.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. While the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge fluctuated and the readings were inconclusive. The contact stated that the battery, check engine, and oil warning indicators illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle stalled on several occasions since may of 2017. In addition, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of acceleration. Furthermore, upon filling the fuel tank, the engine began to shake/tremble and the vehicle stalled while stationary. The contact restarted the vehicle several times and applied pressure to the accelerator pedal in an attempt to correct the failure. An independent mechanic removed the fuel tank to assess the vehicle, but was unable to diagnose the cause of the failures. Waldorf Ford (2440 crain highway, waldorf, maryland 20601, (301) 843-2400) was made aware of NHTSA campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

My car constantly smells like gas when I start it up after filling the gas tank up, the car dies when driving down road I have to pull over to start it because it dies while I am on the road so I have to pull over since last year the fuel reader stopped working causing me to die on side of road because of running out of gas. The car still has transmission issues it jerks from time to time and the half shaft bearing and wheel bearings are currently going out in this car. I bought the car brand new at the Ford dealership. This is car is a lemon I have owned over 15 used cars and never had a problem as much I have had with this new car.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/06/2016

Purchased a used 2012 Ford Focus with 89,000 miles. I've owned the car for two years. I recently began smelling fuel. After filling the fuel tank I began looking for the source of the leak. I jacked up the rear of the vehicle and noticed a fuel leak and the fuel tank was plastic. I took it to a deal for the door latch recall and was informed it needs a fuel tank do to a crack on the top of the tank. The cost of the new tank installed is $1340. 00 witch included the labor. There is no way a fuel tank should crack in four years. The vehicle has never been in an accident. There is a fuel tank recall on Ford fusion and Lincoln millan, witch also have plastic tanks. This is reminding me of the 70's when american car manufacturing was terrible.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/17/2016

Car dies on highway while driving. Fuel system and sensors seems to be failing or fell apart inside the vehicle it will not show appropriate fuel levels. It stuttering after filling up to full tank. Vehicle is very dangerous to drive on a highway to work when fuel system is failing. Many complainst have been filed on other automitive websites and forums about this exact fuel system issue. Collapsed fuel system / fuel guage I just purchased this car 3 weeks ago and my previous pontiac grand prix 2006 gave me less issues than this Ford Focus. Something really wrong is here with Ford, I think they have gotten to a massive point they believe they cannot be held responsible for there mistakes or recalls since they are too tied into the dependecy of all the people.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Filling up with gas the gas pump turns off after about every 1/2 gallon. Something to do with the venting of the gas tank.
