2 Turn Signal problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/28/2017

There is a group of electrical cables in the trunk of the vehicle on the passenger side that controls all the lights that are attached to the trunk lid. This includes the brake lights. When opening and closing the trunk, this group of cables rubs up against a metal bar. Eventually this can cause the electrical cables to lose their protective tape and possibly cut the cables, leading to a complete loss of brake lights, reverse lights, and turn signal lights. 3 Turn Signal problem of the 2005 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/15/2014

Turn signal stopped working. Removed rear tail lenses to replace all the bulb and found brake/turn signal socket fused to interior portion of tail lens inhibiting removal due to heat warpage. Will contact dealer for replacement sockets for right and left sides and lens replacement for right and left sides. This should be a recalled item due to hazard of no turn or brake light and poor design to allow bulb to produce enough heat to cause thermal reaction and possible fire hazard.

4 Turn Signal problem of the 2005 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/06/2013

The left rear turn signal stopped working- the blown bulb indication was noticed by the fast flash signal on the dashboard indicator. When going to replace the bulb it was found that the upper socket for the turn signal socket is melted to the lens cover. The lens cover socket mounting hole was distorted by heat. Once the socket was removed the bulb was found not to be blown. The socket housing shows internal signs of heat damage -color change. The bulb was in position in the socket and the bulb base showed no sign of melting at the bulb contact points. It appears the heat was generated in the socket connection to the bulb base. There are multiple complaint of a similar finding on multiple years of the Ford Focus that were easily found with a internet search- Ford Focus melted socket. Purchasing replacement socket from dealer as this is a major personal safety issue.

6 Turn Signal problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/27/2006

A year ago, the driver's side turn signal light on my 2002 Ford Focus wagon burned out. In trying to replace it at a local auto parts place. The socket was so tight in the lens/reflector assembly that it could not be removed. I took it to my dealer, kain family Ford in london. I learned that the problem was that the fitting for the socket had warped from excessive heat, apparently. The dealer searched to see if there was a technical bulletin and found one instance in which a pizza driver in a similar vehicle had a similar problem. They were able to pull the light out and with a pocket knife make the new socket fit in the assembly, and charged me the hourly rate for the work. I suspect this is a manufacturer's defect, because I've heard of two other instances in the same type of vehicle in this area with the same results. I recently replaced the passenger side headlamp and fount the same warping. I have yet to take it to my dealer, but will. Is there a way to search repair records for this vehicle to determine if this is a defect and should be recalled? I learned of this site from click and clack on npr's cartalk.
