Exterior Lighting Problems of Ford Focus - part 1

A major electrical issue has occurred in this car since June 1, 2025. The traction control system dashboard indicator (the skidding car) comes on even though I am not using the tcs. When this happens, I get a message saying "hill start assist not available," and am unable to manipulate my headlights, use turn signals, or lock/unlock my doors (I need to use the physical key to lock/unlock the driver's side door). If this "hill start assist" issue occurs and I turn off my car (or if it occurs when the car is off), then I am unable to start my car. I get a new message saying "no key detected," and the ignition does nothing. I have a physical key, and not a fob. If the tcs light goes away, then I am able to start up my car. However, this is unpredictable; there appears to be no way to force the tcs light to disappear, and sometimes it will stay on for over an hour with my key in the "on" position. As of late, it hasn't gone away at all, making the car unusable. This causes obvious safety issues when on the road, as I cannot use turn signals or change my lights as it gets darker or it begins to rain/snow. When not on the road, I cannot use my car at all. A dealer recently confirmed the problem with the body control module, but was unable to fix it. They managed to turn the car on, but the problems returned after 24 hours. As I was driving home on July 18, 2025, the tcs light came on and suddenly I could not use turn signals or change my lights. I still had over an hour to drive home. I did arrive home safely, but have not been able to use my car since.

I purchased a 2017 Ford Focus from a car dealership called lion cars on 4201 west colonial drive in orlando florida the car has a major major electrical issue I was at an intersection and the car went completely dead and turned off and it locked me inside the car I couldn't get out of the car the windows would not roll down the doors were not unlocked and the car started smoking finally I got out then 3 days later I turned around and try to get in the car and the car also locked me in out of the car where I couldn't use my key fob nothing on the car works I did a report on it I found out that the car had been in two major crashes and both reports stated severe damage and when you drive down the road it pulls to the left I brought this attentia attention of lying car dealership they said that they would fix the car or they will replace the car and they never did so now I am without a car I am without my money back and I am without replacement car so.

I have reported before my vehicle is and has been cyber attacked. This time around my horn has been disable. They turn on the radio, they turn on the light lights of the vehicle, they turn on the radio, they turn on the ac/heat control. If I take it in again, they are going to tell me nothing is wrong. This is very dangerous for me as a driver. I cannot drive a vehicle without a horn. I never heard from you guys on the last report I made. Not sure how this one is going to help. Se acelera y desacelera repentinamente quiero acelerar para llegar a la mismas velocidad del trafico y no lo hace y eso hase que ponga en peligro la vidad mia y DE mi familia por que otro carro puede chocarme. The body control module controlling the lights, hatch, and door lock/unlock malfunctioned. Its a serious safety issue when the lights go out unexpectedly while driving.

The transmission is going out, they’ve replaced it and it’s still a bad transmission. Having a bad transmission could cause the car to shut off in the middle of the road causing an accident. My engine is constantly overheating, my car gives me warnings to stop the car because of overheating. I can’t even drive on the expressway because I’m scared my car is going to blow up or something. The electrical inside the car does not work, I can’t unlock the doors on the driver side but on the passenger side I can. The sunshade blocking thing you pull down lights don’t come on, nothing about the car really works. The car jerks when driving like it’s about to shut off in the middle of the road, that’s a safety defect or whatever you wanna call it. The car makes a ticking noise when you start it up and OH the idle, let me tell you about the idling of this car. I could be driving 25-35 mph and the car idles up to 5! literally, it’s unsafe! I have to use my flash light at night when getting things out my car, getting my baby brother out of the car. It don’t make sense.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the passenger’s side headlight was inoperable. The headlamp failure message was displayed. My vehicle has been with me since I’ve had it since 32,000 miles it’s up to 87,000 miles now the first thing I had to replace the starter at 32,000 the alternator and cv axle on the passenger side and the clutch is second and third clutch and the inside dome lights an the dash lights shorted out all went out the day after I got it now since then at 84,000 the the front clip just fell off going down the road it never dragged the ground an it was never broken but going down the interstate at 70 the speed limit it fell down an ripped out from under the car an hit the car behind me costing me a lot of money but now currently at 87,000 the cv axel on the passenger side has started knocking again bye far one of the worst cars I’ve ever bought.

Interior lighting. Multiple shorted wires kept blowing fuses for interior lights. Wiring harness for all interior lights had to be replaced with multiple areas of chafing and wires melted together.

The dealership sold me a car with not hazards lights in it the car is suppose to ha then but it doesn’t there is no button for the hazard lights.

This car started to make loud engine noises which caused the car to shut off then it restarted on it's on I finally got it to parking lot when I cut it off it still was rattling and clacking like I was cranking it up on the left side of engine so I waited till about 30 minutes what ever it was it killed my battery then it started back up again but then through a check engine light on but when I got it checked it wouldn't read any codes so the display on board of the car read transmission shift in reverse but I wasn't in reverse so it was stuck in transmission mode and could not drive it I got it at a shop which they only would say a transmission, but they only wants to put a transmission in with out checking if it could be anything else like a electrical problem but he says no a transmission so now I'm only at 150k miles and this goes out without notice, I even asked about the transmission acuator but he says no the whole transmission, I just got the car like 3 months ago, and that is no good.

I drive a 2002 Ford Focus sedan. My engine light is on, warning light for trunk door ajar light is on (even though the trunk is securely locked, my front headlights due not work consistently (sometimes work, sometimes don't). My trunk does not always latch secure after I close it as well. I took my car to advanced auto parts and had my engine light diagnosed. Engine codes that resulted were: b1318, b1881, c1947, b2438, b2434, p0457. The representative tested my battery and found that the voltage was slightly lower than it should be. My concern is for my safety as well as the safety of others. Do we have some manufacturer defects on this particular vehicle? have other concerns which could be the result of vehicle wear and tear, or/and due to manufacturer defects as well. Inner tie rods need replaced as well as control arms/bushings, as reported to me by a mechanic. I have seen recall reports related to the 2002 Ford Focus in which there has been issues directly related to what I'm reporting, which is another reason I'm filing a report. Thank you.

I've been experiencing an electrical issue. I have lost power to my break lights completely. There was no warning lights or signs at all. I was pulled over and made aware by a police officer that my break light were out. I proceeded to try to replace the light itself which did not work, it only continues to blow the dust when I try. I had a mechanic inspect it and he told me there seems to be a short or possible broken wire somewhere in the wiring harness.

Fuse continued to blow out causing entire left side of lights from front to back to turn off until new fuse replaced old. Was connected to continued lifting of hatchback on wagon model. Electrical harness was arcing and insulation flaking off and would have caused a fire had not the harness been replaced. This had been on and off for approximately 2 years starting with blowing out the bulbs then the fuse started blowing out in Jan 2021. Midas replaced harness this March. Car is a 2005 Focus wagon,.

The wiring harness flexes where it passes from the body to the tailgate causing the iinsulation and wiring to break and short to the body resulting in a blown fuse and no rear lights. This has occurred whilst driving and when stationary opening the hatchback.

#01. The panel light are not working in my 2012 Ford Focus hatchback se - the fuel warning light does not work either way - stationary or in motion, the low fuel warning light does not come on. I need further assistance in troubleshooting for this vehicle. To inspect my vehicle and check why the lights are not coming on. #2 the positive battery cable is very corroded. #3. I'm�not�able to properly�open�car front door from outside on�passenger�side. I can open the door but exerting a greater force when I pull to open this door than the rest of the doors.

There are numerous electrical problems with my rear lights. My license plate lights will not work at anytime and sometimes none of the rear lights work at all.

So for some reason my airbag light will come on and off for a few weeks. When its on my high beams and dont work and when its off my high beams work. Then today , my car battery randomly died on me twice. It started shaking uncontrollably before then. I thought maybe I needed an oil change because I was close to due for one. When I got it they said my oil was fine and their system checked my battery as working fine too. Also when I try to step on my gas sometimes the car with skid before taking off. Im not sure if anyone else has these issues. I've only had this vehicle for 4 months and it's fairly new. It had one owner before me.

Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph and attempting to make a turn, the headlamps and instrument panel became inoperable. The contact stated that there was no warning prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to cortese Ford service department (2500 w. Henrietta rd, rochester, NY 14623, (585)277-3280) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the body control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 34,600.

My low beam notification came on my dash while attempting to change my light I noticed that the wiring is tinged and exposed and the light is brown and burnt I'm not sure if there was an electric fire or what happened. I was parked and turned my car on when the notification came up.

The system has not failed yet, but the exterior lights of this car are a safety concern to me and my family. There is no visibility at night, when it is raining, or any tough conditions on the road. With no proper illumination, the risk for an accident is higher. These exterior lights need to be replaced with better quality lights. I called the Ford dealership where I bought the car and I gave them my car pin number, and they told me there are no recalls for this vehicle regarding exterior lights.

When you go to pull out the car wants to jump an stall then u be going down the road some an the engine light will come on an the transmission dont want to go out of gear the way it should I have a 7 month old grand baby an it scares me to drive something thats so defective. Please respond to this. Had it check at fors an they still ant fixed it.

Complaints: power train (currently-5th clutch asy having serviced), body: locks and hatch donot work most of the time. . Passenger door knob just fell off in passenger hand, excessive fuel consumption, car jerks and stalls, false digital readings on dash. Some lights stay on continuously. Had to have to tire pressure monitoring sensor replaced 2 yrs of having the vehicle. All supporting documents available upon request. All documents have VIN and my name on them, so cant upload them. Multiple dates of service, but am listing the last dos. My vehicle has been at the Ford dealership for 3 wks so far. Awaiting list for a loaner car is 3 wks out. I am without transportation still. Currant dos is an approximate date, as it is still with the Ford mechanic. I bought this vehicle bc I inherited raising 2 grandchildren, and needed a economical and reliable vehicle to transport them to and from dr appts, school, preschool ect, but this vehicle is anything but reliable. It's been an expensive nightmare. My extended warrant already paid for this fix last time, and now I've been told that my policy maximum may have been reached, thus making me responsible for all balances due from this repair. I have been unable to work bc of unreliable transportation, and do not have the monies to pay for this repair. This design flaw in the dual clutch transmission, there is no permanent fix. The problem recurs continuously. If my warrany policy doesnt pay for these and future repairs, nd Ford isn't paying them, I will either have to have the bank repossess the vehicle, possibly sued by Ford for non payment. I have been seriously just filing bankruptcy. Is there anything that can be done to help me out of this mess? Ford will not take this vehicle back bc it has over 60,000 miles etc. Unable to select boxes, due to frozen boxes.

I have a 2016 Ford Focus and had nothing but problems with it since day one I've had the car at dealership several times for the wipers first they said can't find anything wrong next they said they adjusted the wipers then they said they changed the motor . It still stops in my view whenever it rains I told them it's still happening and I was told to change the wipers. I'm no I should not have to with a new car. One morning I get into the car and had frost on the inside of my windshield I turned the defrost on and watch my windshield crack brought to Ford and they said something hit it like a rock I explained what happened but wouldn't acknowledge that there was a defect I told them that if the windshield had a solid seal I would not get frost on the inside they brushed me off. And now my car doesn't start right away and I called customer service and all they said was nothing they can do about it. I'm so frustrated with this car since day one no one at Ford will help me. There are other problems like the interior lights keep going out . I'm so tired of wasting my time bringing the car to the dealership being made to feel like an idiot. Ford says they pride themselves on customer service but I yet to see it as every time they treat me like I'm making things up. I want my car in safe driving condition. Is that to much to ask for!!!!it shouldn't be but that's how for makes me feel. . ,I showed videos of windshield wipers also but I'm crazy.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus the vehicle has 2 unrepaired recalls associated with this VIN. The contact stated that while driveing they were about to be hit by another vehicle, they attempted to press on the horn and it failed to function, no waring lights illumitated at the time, the contact also stated that the fab will not work. The dealer has not diagnosed the vehicle nor has the maufacturer been notified. The contact was provided with the manufacturer contact number 800-392-3673 and 800-367-3788 for the recall repair. Ep.

All of the internal lights have stopped working, and the horn does not work. Fuses are all fine. I noticed the horn not working after someone almost hit me on the highway.

Brake lamp bulb fault, replace both brake lamp bulbs with new ones, they both work but every time the car is started same message comes up.

The transmission has been slipping badly but warranty is only 100k miles and car has 105k so Ford dealer says I have to pay repairs. This is a know issue. Dashboard display is damage and shows no information - millage - and can not pass emission testing since can not determine millage. Dealer want $800. Vehicle just shut-off in middle of driving - very scary - disconnect and connect battery and worked but scary and dangerous. All these three issues -transmission, display & shutting off- should be a recall because car can not be use.

Transmission was not shifting into gears, then the reverse went out. . Talked to 3 different Ford dealers. . Asked about my warranty then said no recalls on this and out of warranty would be out of pocket. . So I did have an outside warranty for repairs but they said nothing was covered. . So I paid aamco to fix it. . 3500. 00 and 2 months later I am at another aamaco (because of their warranty) the new aamaco place says transmission shot need a new one. . About 5 grand. . So. . No we drove it back home and put her to pasture. . I have all paperwork on all work done. . And not done. . But we travel for my husband's job. . So my paperwork is home in TX. . We are now in TN. . For a few weeks. My car acted up badly , hot transmission, had to stop several times just to get it to the shop. . Also. . Would be great if it at least had a dip stick to check your fluids. Also on first transmission work. . We had to rent our motel room for 3 extra days waiting on the car repair to be completed. This after he had it a week already. . I also have phone numbers and quotes from 2other people that would have worked on my car if they had the tools to work on a dual transmission.

While driving on a busy street the car made a sound with the words �engine fault: . . . � the cars electrical functions went haywire within a minute of the first warning and the car died.

While driving dashboard lights and gauges turn off radio turns on and off and unable to operate or turn off it stays on with extremely loud static. Cars turns off while in motion on a highway and street. We pushed it to safety then attempted to turn it back on and it did. Today we took it to a Ford dealer the rep hooked it up to the diagnostic machine no problem was was found. Then later that day it did it again. We took it back now they say its the computer system that controls computer programming for the car. Granted they had not hooked it up to the diagnostic machine and the cost would $800. This car is not even 6 years old this is a big concern /liability when you have the dash lights and gauges, the radio turning off and on . The car is shutting off in mid motion. I called Ford today the rep said nothing we can do no other reports about those symptoms have been reported. Yes the rep said symptoms. But other reports have been made on blog chats. Same or similar issues. I have major concerns when a car is shutting down whe driving that is definitely something to worry about. 2012 Ford Focus cost $21000. 00 6 years old needing minor repairs wear and tear understandable tire $50 windshield wipers $30 etc electrical computer programming major repair big problem since potentially your car can shut down in the middle of a highway and you a can cause an accident or worse die. $800 is a lot of money to get a repair done for 6 year old car.

My vehicle instrument cluster failed causing alternator to die and false readings on the dash with multiple alerts such as battery, airbag , oil and incorrect speed dial. The vehicle instrument failed at 30,000 miles and if you search it is a very common issue with the Ford Focus vehicle's. The vehicle staled and died while being drove in town and thank god it did not happen while on the highway.

Bought a 2005 Ford Focus in April, 2018. Told sales man that airbag engine light remains on. Was told is ok. On 6/112018, called customer service Ford coporate spoke with a lady. She ask for VIN number, I gave it to her. She said 2005 Focus has no airbag recall. I told her that air bag light stays on since we bought the car. She didn't take interest on that. I asked her what company made 2005 Ford Focus airbag? she would not tell me. I called local Ford dealer in wesley chapel FL. Told service tech same thing that I told coporate of engine light airbag always stays on. He too said is nothing. That VIN number is no recall. I asked him as well which company put airbags in 2005 Focus, was it tahkata? he too wouldn't answer me. So I email mr. W. Ford to explain above situation with airbag light and who placed air bags in 2005 Focus. Have not heard from him or his office, explained to mr. Ford, that airbag light being always on and his dealers want to charge me $200 to check engine light is absurd. When this is a national safety recall. That we as their paying customers deserve an answer and better treatment. Can you please tell me if this is a safety violation? would like to hear from you. Thank you. J. James smith.
