36 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2009

Vehicle shut off while driving down a residential street, luckily in a 25mph zone. My wife was driving with my two children (infant and 3 year old). Vehicle would start in park, but as soon as a gear was engaged, it would stall. Dealer ended up replacing the tcm (transmission control module) stating that water "shorted" it out due to a faulty seal. The service manager himself stated that Ford will not honor the warranty on this part, even though there seem to be countless claims on the same issue, because the part was damaged by water, not as a fault of the part itself. They will also not take responsibility of the faulty seal.

37 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2009

My complaint is regarding the transmission in my Ford Freestar. I commute to work daily, and one morning while on the highway my vehicle stalled. Luckily, the traffic was not heavy at the time but I was still upset about this incident. My transmission is gone. I am a single mother making payments on a vehicle that is currently sitting in my driveway because I can not afford to repair the transmission. I am grateful my children were not in the vehicle with me at the time my vehicle decided to die in the middle of the highway. I have researched this issue online and have found that I am one of many who have difficulties with their vehicle giving out on them while driving due to the transmission and pcm. The main reason I am lodging this complaint is in hopes that maybe if enough people complain about this issue, then maybe a recall would be issued. I am sure I am not the first and nor will I be the last to complain about Ford's Freestar.

38 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2008

In September of 2005 we purchased a used 05 Ford Freestar by that October it was in the garage the pcm without. The dealer had the van for 3 weeks went to pull out at the dealer the pcm was still not fixed after 2 or three more weeks got van back. Then June of 06 went pull out of the driveway the pcm without again. Ford pick the van up said they had to problem fixed. They did for a little while but now two years later the pcm is out once again. It keeps going out due to water getting the pcm. Ford knows there is design problem with this model of van but refuses to recall and fix the problem.

39 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2008

I have had problems with my Ford free star 2005 van it has 50,600 miles on it. It all started when the speedometer and odometer stopped working at highway speeds. Then a few seconds latter the van just died while driving with my two year old twins in the car. I was able to start it up again and it started to sputter and stall again. I am a mechanic and I was going to attempt to repair the vehicle myself until I went on line and found out that other people have been complaining about the pcm getting wet and I found out mine was wet and corroded. The pcm was getting wet by water getting through the crowl gasket. I also found out that there was a TSB out on this directing dealers how to repair this problem at cost to the customer. The pcm was replaced now the vehicle shifts funny and goes in and out of gear and I was told I have transmission damage now. I called Ford customer service and they basically told me OH well, not our problem. But how is this my problem for a vehicle I did not design. Water should not be able to get to the pcm. Now my vehicle sits at a dealer and the dealer said that all plug in connectors to sensors. And vital computer components are wet an corroded. But if funny how there is a TSB out on this problem and Ford is doing nothing to help the customer.
