Failure Date: 10/02/2015

My Freestar was recalled for trans problem, it broke down while I was driving about 3 yrs ago, Ford in watkins glen NY fixed it ,it ran sluggish like it did before it broke down, I just thought "OH well I guess that's how they ran", now three yrs. Later I'm having the same problem its trans is not working again, could they have possibly repaired it with another faulty trans (touque converter) it broke down just like it did before it was repaired. Iv'e spoken to other Freestar owners that have told me there Freestar ran much better after there trans was fixed, . . . Both times my vehicle was in motion when the trans stopped moving, on a city street. I do believe my problem is do to another faulty touque converter. I live in n. J. Now, so what can I do? thank you!.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

Replaced the converter through Ford recall. I was so impressed with the way this vehicle drove and how comfortable it was I sought to purchase another. However, in my search these vehicles are being sold at private dealers may or may not know about this recall. They are considered "incomplete" running the VIN through NHTSA safecar. Com which means all buyers are being sold a defective vehicle with this safety recall waiting to catch up to them if it ever does??? why, why why is this not mandatory to recall and repair rather then allow the poor unsuspected buyer to later have to pay because they never knew. Why is there not a disclosure clause like in real estate that if you failed to inform the buyer your responsible to pay for it!!! common sense is all anyone wants even from the govt.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

While traveling on the highway with no warning the vehicle lost all acceleration. Once able to get to a safe area to pull over the vehicle started to respond. Since this occurence this situation has happened intermittently for the past year. I have brought the vehicle to the Ford dealer and 2 different mechanics, all of whom have changed many different items ranging from a tune up to a new coil and multiple cam shaft sensors. All 3 have performed many diagnostics but to date have been unable to locate the problem which still exists but with more regularity. I am no longer able to drive the vehicle due to its performance and I am scared to put my wife and children in the vehicle. When I did do some research on the internet I came across hundreds if not thousands of the very same complaints, someone has to force Ford to address this safety issue. Mini vans are most commonly used for transporting our most precious passengers, children. Will it take a car full of children dying for Ford to acknowledge this problem exists and that they need to do the right thing.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2013

Engine light came on car stalled several times, would not shift. You people know what the problem is fix it or I will go buy something other than a Ford. I took it to a Ford dealership service and found out that water got into the pmc module and terminals were corroded. Mechanic blow dried interior of pmc best he could selicon to seal the best he could and told me it was a temporary fix. Water keeps getting into the module. Why doesn't Ford stand behind their mistakes and resolve the problem? I love my Freestar but why should I pay for the manufactors engineering mistakes?.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2013

I was driving my car, the same as any other day. I came to a stop light and my car wouldn't go, as if I had it in neutral. There was some vibration and it was extremely hard to turn my car. I nearly hit a business that was on the corner of the turn. Then, it started working again, just to soon quit working again. I had my mechanic look at it to discover it was the torque. I am having the same issues as the other Ford Freestars that were recalled, but mine specific van was not for some reason but showing the exact same issues as the recalled ones.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2012

I am having transmission issues with high revving, soft shifting and what feels like slipping. And then today when I drove the van there was smoke coming out from under the dash board along with the other issues. After doing some research on line it seems as though it is the control module and as it gets wet things start to go wrong with the van. The design is faulty and needs to be fixed as water gets into the module and the connector. I have included a video link from youtube for you to look over regarding this problem and how bad design is leading to all these small complaints and problems. I am taking the van to my local dealer or shop to see if this could be the cause of my problems. . Read more...

Failure Date: 08/06/2012

Car stalls when it stops, shuttering while it drives, the car has been to the shop twice know. The second time it was left outside the auto shop and it rained over night. When the mechanics went to start it and look at it they noticed there was water dripping out of our ecm. They did some research and found that there were design flaws in the ecm and that it wasn't sealed right. There should have been a recall but there never has been. 56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

This information is a collection of incidents that ultimately fit together. I have notice that the floor board of my van was wet. Since I have 3 kids I just shrugged it off. This past week I notice the floor mats weren't wet only the carpet beneath it was soaked. My kids don't spill just under the mats. The water must be entering from the outside in. The van was acting weird on and off -no check engine light until it started happen more frequently. June 2012, I got the p1340 code that the camshaft position sensor had gone bad, I replaced it, went out again, I was told it could have been a faulty part, changed it again, went out again, decided this is beyond me. I took it to the dealership and they "fixed" the camshaft position sensor and another part that was causing the camshaft position sensor not to work. ($900) it broke again because the part they put in was defective. They replaced the defective part and the check engine light came back on again. After they had the car for 2 weeks they found another small problem. ($130) I insisted at the time that they didn't make the proper repairs. They assured me that it all still needed to be done. (caught some double talk) I experienced a few more issues with the van losing power. (July,September, October -check engine light did not turn on. ) I:n December the car turned off and I was only able to get about 25ft per restart and the light came on. I've noticed other features not working properly or working intermittently. (power locks, power windows, radio, power doors, key remote . . . ) I have learned that other 2005 Freestar owners have experienced similar incidents caused by water leaking into the car through the windshield wiper blades and running down the wire harness causing multiple parts to short out from time to time. Please look into this. I have 3 children and no more money for "let's try this repairs".

57 Power Train problem

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs under NHTSA campaign id number: 12v006000. The contact was not pleased with the time expectancy of having the recall defect repaired. The contact had not experienced a failure. The current mileage was 80,000.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar wagon. While driving approximately 55 mph, the transmission suddenly became inoperative. 59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2012

My family and I pulled out onto a busy street, at an intersection and a highway and as I got ready to make a right turn, the car would not move forward. There were cars blowing and a kind police officer came up to the car and asked us what was going on. As we explained, he told us that he would push us out of the road. After pushing us out of the road, he left and we had to call our insurance company to get a tow, which took about 3 to 4 hours to get there. Not to mention, I had to find a way for my family to get home. The car seemed as if it was in neutral but wasn't. It started but just would not move. To make matters worse, it is our only form of transportation and no way to get around.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2011

On December 27, 2001, I was pulling out of my driveway when I lost power. I couldn't go forward or backward. My husband came out to see what the problem was. He didn't understand why it would do that. We called ferrario Ford. No answer, just an answer machine. I took our truck and drove to the dealership. They told me to call a tow company, but they couldn't get it in until the next week. Well, it sat there for a week and when the machanic called he said it was moisture. He dried it out and then called and said he had to do a flush. A few days later he called and said he would have to check the torque box and it would be a seven hour job. The next call was "it was the radiator had a crack in it". Then it was the transmission. He already has us at $1820. We said no. Then I find out that there is a recall. My husband when and talked to them. At first they said they didn't know anything about it. Another guy said yes. My husband talked to Ford in michigan. Turns out to no avail as to what has already been done. When I bring it home tomarrow it will sit in the drive way with a sign that says "lemon" no more Fords for this family.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2011

On 12/04/2011 driving on a busy 2 way highway with no pull off areas. The transmission started jerking and loss of power. After getting the van back to the house to change the fluid and filter, I find a chunk of metal on the magnet. ( which I still have ) with this van only having 110,883 there is reason for this van to be down with transmission problems. I have a 2003 Ford crown vic ( police unit ) over 356,000 miles on it- still going have a 1999 Ford f250 with over 120,000 miles on it - still going so whats the issue with the 2005 Ford free star? I will never buy another Ford unless Ford steps up and fixes these transmission.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2011

I was drive my 2005 Ford Freestar van and as starting to go up overpass loss all drive power, engine was running ok but transmission was gone. Luckly this was a new bridge which had a place to pull over. I made to the top over the over pass because of speed before transmission quit. I had no warning just an all the sudden loss of the transmission. When I stopped on top of bridge I tried all gears including reverse and nothing . This is dangerious me and my wife could have been rear ended and killed because of this, between loss of drive train and crazy drivers while waiting for a tow truck to take us home. Ford need to fix cause of this problem and fix every Ford Freestar ever sold.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2011

Moisture damage to powertrain control module (computer system). Vehicle would not idle, transmission would not shift, and irradic electronics resulting in multiple warning lights to go on and off. Fortunately, I was in a parking lot, however, this could have resulted in catastrophic failure if I was driving on an interstate. Repair shop stated that they have seen this same problem. I have to have a new computer installed and the vehicle is only 6 years old.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2011

My wife was driving down a main highway, when her Ford Freestar lost all power from the transmission. She coasted to the side of the roadway. She tried to put the vehicle in any gear and all that would move was the rpm gauge. Her and my son were left stranded on the side of the roadway. The vehicle had to be towed to a mechanic shop, who told us that the the vehicle would have to have a new transmission and that it would cost us about $3000. This vehicle has been well taken care of since we bought it new. The vehicle only has 70,000 miles on it and should not be having the transmission replaced. It appears from everything I have learned that this a common problem with this year model. My question is, why hasn't a recall been issued on this problem? not only am I out a tow bill and the cost of a transmission, my family was left stranded on the side of the roadway. This should not have happened.
