8 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 08/09/2011

Today (8-9-11) while entering I-95 sb at GA exit 107, I was in the excelleration lane to blend with traffic when my 2004 Ford Freestar completely lost all forward power and speed. The engine runs fine and went to idol. I was almost struck by a tractor trailer, trying to coast onto the shoulder. I/ve been advised that Ford's 2004 Freestar has a 'troque converter' problem (by the tow driver) and it simply stops providing forward movement without warning. Additionally this vehicle does not provide any power-door 'auto-stop' when an obstruction in in the open door. (it brused my arm trying to close and the passenger had to help pull the door back).

10 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 08/06/2011

Have a 2005 Ford Freestar with 64000 miles on it. While driving down a highway with my husband and 5 children in the car, it just revved up without warning and started to slow down. No drive, reverse, low. . . Nothing. The transmission just took a vacation. Lucky aaa was close by and got the car towed to our home and our family home safe. The next morning we decided to go out and try to start it again and see if anything changed. Now the car not only has no transmission but the car wont even turn over. Everything else works. Its not the battery, which is new. Have had regular maintenance on it and not had many problems until now,. Have a call into Ford right now waiting for a tech to call me back with options. Seeing so many people with the exact same issue , seems to me Ford should be taking care of this issue.

12 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

The transmission in my 2005 Ford Freestar stopped workign without warnign or prior indication that something was wrong. My wife backed out of the drive and then put the van in drive and it would not move forward. Also tried reverse and it no longer works either. 14 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 07/17/2011

On Sunday, July 17, 2011, I had just driven onto the freeway, and was getting up to freeway speeds of about 50, when I noticed that the van felt like it was not wanting to accelerate and the transaxle light started flashing on the left side of the controls panel. The van felt like it was stuck in mud and didn’t want to pick up speed, and when I tried to accelerate, even the slightest bit, to maintain my speed on the busy freeway, the rpms went way up and it made a squealing sound, so I didn’t want to push it. I let the van coast and got off the freeway at the next exit. Once I was off the freeway, the van would drive without the rpms going up, as long as I kept it under 35 miles an hour, and didn’t have to accelerate to go up a hill, so I dropped off my son’s girlfriend at her house and slowly drove the van back to my house and parked it. A quick search on the internet produced dozens if not hundreds of stories just like this. The cost to fix the transmission is likely to be as much as the trade-in value on the car so i’m not sure what i’ll do with the van now.

After calling Ford, (their price over three thousand) I had it towed to aamco for an estimate, 2,500. 00. I've been told this could happen again, this is dangerous and we are beside ourselves that this could happen. My wife is 70 years old and the van only has 66,000 miles. P. S I've been told this could be an electronics problem that Ford knows about. Ed, austell,GA. If there's a class action lawsuit outthere, I'm in!!!!!!!.

Our 2004 Ford Freestar limited without warning suddenly lost power in heavy traffic. The vehicle started to slow down, and the engine rpm raced. We were able to coast to the side of the roadway, where the vehicle had no forward or backwards power. We were stuck until a repair garage could be reached and arrangements made for retrieval. 22 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 06/16/2011

My daughter's boyfriend was driving our 2004 Ford Freestar home from his work on interstate 70 yesterday. He had it set on cruise and suddenly the rpm shot up to max and the vehicle was not being propelled any longer. He immediately pulled out of traffic and stopped on the side of the interstate. When he did it, the shifter would move, but no gear, including reverse would engage. I have read many complaints of the very same issue today and I'm just adding ours to the list. Thanks, greg allen.

23 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 06/16/2011

I had taken my 2005 Ford Freestar van to be checked for a problem with the transmission because it wasn't shifting properly. Then later I had taken it to a Ford dealer for the check engine light to be diagnosed - they claimed that it couldn't be diagnosed because it didn't write the code properly. Transmission still not shifting properly. A month later the transaxle light came on, the engine wasn't running properly and in the rain the check engine light would blink on and off. I took it to a transmission specialist who actually took the time with the van to diagnose it. He had to let the engine warm up long enough for the lights to start coming on. Then he diagnosed the problem to be the 2nd gear in the transmission. Once the transmission was removed he said that it couldn't be fixed so I had to install a new transmission - $2700 later and had to borrow a vehicle from family to go on vacation. I also had to replace the air compressor for the air conditioner - $500 later but now it seems to be giving me problems again. I have had numerous issues with the tires - they don't hold air because of the rims that don't allow them to properly seal. I had the dealer put on the last set of tires and told them to fix the issue - so far I haven't had an issue. But for 60000 miles I have had issues.

While driving approx 40 on a suburban road car began to sruge forward and I found it would not accelerate past 40 and then not at all. Then it surge again and drove for a bit and repeated the cycle. After reading all the complaints online there are hundreds I want Ford to do something about this. Someone please do something about this. We don't have the money to fix or even buy another vehicle. 33 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 04/23/2011

We were driving eastbound on highway 26 in the state of oregon. We were driving up the hill when there was a odd sound, then the rpm of the vehicle went over 3000. We were able to pull the vehicle off the high way barely past the white line. I let off the brake and tried to drive the rpm revved but the car drifted backwards. We put the vehicle in park and then tried again in 1, 3 and drive and again same result. We drifted the car backwards further off the road and contacted a tow. If we were not lucky enough to have had no traffic behind us and have a large enough side bar on the road we would have likely been in an accident.
